[…] Sim-Lab GT2 Rig […]
As I recently got hooked into Rally and WRX, I upgraded my rig with some components from Aliexpress:
  • a 330mm round suede wheel (accompanied by a Seeeduino Xiao in a short hub for the buttons)
  • a handbrake with an additional handle, 3D printed in TPU by my brother
  • a sequential clonk noise generator
  • Q1R style quick releases
Also I decided to release the T-LCM pedals into the wild and replace them with a set of Girro Sim XR Pro.

Almost done after a recent rebuild and using CAD again after multiple years to design some parts.

Still waiting for some parts and then i should be done (for now :))

Created an account to share my rig and give back to the community. I've learnt a lot trawling through the forums here. Special thanks to Mr Latte and blekenbleu for their tests and knowledge. I call this the Playseat Challenge: Ridiculous Edition. It's got a VRS DirectForce Pro 20Nm wheelbase, load cell handbrake, H-shifter, Logitech pedals, wireless keyboard, and a custom 8-channel haptic system. All mounted on a Playseat Challenge that still folds up to almost the same size as the original. I use it with my WFH setup that converts from work to play in around a minute. Attaching a few pics here, but there's a full 30-image descriptive gallery on imgur. Full parts list available here (USD 2600 in all).

Inspiring! Sadly, text are not searchable; I may have missed it while reading,
but what is that monitor arm? It seems quite amazing.
Thanks! I haven't added any details about the desk itself in the parts list; it only contains what's gone on the chair itself. The monitor arm is by WALI and is quite reasonably priced. I've been using it for almost 6 months now and I don't have any complaints after I made some modifications as suggested in the reviews so it could take the weight of the G9. Thanks for sharing your research on the transducers!

Great ingenuity on display and shared for others to adopt and adapt!

Thank you also for the list and pricing--I had a similar sim racing spreadsheet which is now in digital limbo after my MacBook motherboard finally gave up.

Your.experience with the VRS wheel mount hub is instructive and appreciated.
I am learning towards the SRM drive hub mount for the VRS DFP as I do not think I need the longer and much more expensive shaft mounts offered by Simcore, Hybrid Racing Simulations, or Sim Racing Bay.

Thanks! I'll likely get a wireless GT-style wheel in the future and will seek out a quick release at that time. For now I've resolved to use this setup as is for the next few months so I get a good sense of what's working well long term and what's not.

@wearrfamily

That's beaut!

I tried a next level racing version of your seat but it flexed and bounced around so much just with a g27. The play seat must be a better build if you can mount a VRS on it, even with some bracing.

Cheers

Although I don't like the chaos and clutter visible almost everywhere in the photos.... :) I must admit that many of these cockpits look impressive! Meanwhile I'm wondering how to fit my T300RS stand under my desk (It turned out to be a bit more difficult than with my old DFGT... :( Life sucks on so many levels ..).

Dear All

just saw this great article
reminded that its long time ago i posted a short update in this great thread. some know my stuff - maybe some not.

my rig was born some years ago and beside the wheelsbase, pedals and the monitors i can definitely say - its DIY

if you want to read more - i have this "small" report

Enjoy the power of DIY - maybe with one of my 40+ projects free to download

i cannot rate which DIY project is my fav - SFX - one of the steering wheels - the overall cockpit layout - the button boxes - the active pedal test - or just the work with a great DIY community across the globe.

Cheers
Peter
