Great rig! Where did you get the keyboard tray? I’ve been struggling to find a double-hinged solution I’m happy with.

Couple updates. Got my pedals finally set and moved my dash forward. Like the formula position much better. Even when using a handbrake or sequential. Comfy for the long sessions.

It's not much but it works. This POÄNG-like chair is somehow okay for sim racing, I prefer it over my office chair. When not sim racing I just put the chair and wheel stand away, push monitors and speakers back to the wall and use the office chair.

Nowadays it looks rather similar (you could play spot 10 differences with the photos lol) but there were some updates:
-I switched from POÄNG-like chair to actual POÄNG. A bit more comfortable than the one I used to have
-since in actual POÄNG chair I'm sitting a bit lower than in my old one, I had to invest in a monitor arm so that the monitor can sit lower. It also makes life a tad bit easier when switching from regular setup to sim racing setup. The monitor is just a single 24 inch 144hz screen, which I often run at 60 when gaming to save a bit on energy bills.

Not sure how healthy or unhealthy using POÄNG as a sim racing "seat" is for your back, but when set correctly it's somewhat comfortable and on a good day (or night) it's possible for me to do even a bit longer races in it. The key word is "correctly" because if I set it even a bit wrong then I'm quickly starting to miss my controller sim racing days lol

I wanted to make something to create a bit of isolative immersion ...motion platform is yet to be installed and i am still debating on the tactile setup but I will take some of the experts' recommendations. So after a couple of weeks thinking and putting things together I ended up with a frame look-alike (in some parts) of a cage. This will be further enhanced by creating a carbon look roof, some safety nets, adding some suede on panels. for the sides some black out curtains for now till i think of something nicer...not sure yet havent decided the direction. its a step by step approach...this week i am expecting new handbrake, button boxes and 2 hdmi panels for dashboards...seat is taken from my daily car but will be replaced with something with plastic back to attach the exciters..any suggestions on how to progress this be my guest.

Sweet rig. But dont your shoulders get tired after a while holding it like that? That looks like a hell of a shoulder work out with your arms sticking out the sides like thay

Most of the people sit too far away from the steering wheel. Siting closer gives you better control. Just take a look at rally drivers, which have the perfect driving position for racing as they are not restricted by a narrow cockpit.

I meant more of the elbow distance from the body.. but im speaking from the experience of someone with a not so great right shoulder though lol. I have to drive with my elbows a little more " tucked" in if that makes sense. Otherwise i would get shoulder pain after a while.

I have never paid attention to that detail. I will the next time I use my cockpit. I suppose it also has to do with the size of the rim and they way one is used to grab and turn it, as well as the driving style.

Soooo, one of these days, when my wife complained about my trusty Playseat Challenge being too loud at night, I casually browsed through the internet and stumbled across the Sim-Lab GT2 Rig with DD front mount being on sale (€ 372,- instead of € 599,-).

Several hours of rechearch later, I told my wife to cheer up, as I would become a happy owner of a quiet and proper rig for a reasonable price.

As a seat, I chose the OMP TRS-E XL.

Three days later, UPS and DHL arrived. The build took a bit longer than anticipated (especially mounting the seat slider was a PITA) but finally I had not only a hurting back and sore knees, but also a fat grin on my face.

I am super happy with this rig. It is rock solid without any flex, and the slanted column to the wheel mount makes it easy to get in and out. And after the first hours of testing I can happily announce, that neither my wife nor my daughter heard any rumbling or squeaking from the rig. Mission accomplished!

The evolution of my simracing rig

1994 to 2009
It all started in around 1994 when i got Grand Prix 2 with the usual desk setup, at that time my wheel was a logitech formula force. One of the first force feed back wheel.

2009 to 2016
Then my setup evolved a little by changing my wheel for a Logitech G25, then a G27 but still clamped on a dsk that look like this

2016 to 2020
Still using the good old G27 but this time i made my first DIY wooden rig. Taking that i'm not very good with my hands the end result wasn't too bad

2020 to 2022
In 2020 i've made a big step up, i renewed my entire hardware, new PC, new monitor' new wheel, pedals and shifter. I also had to do a new wooden cockpit cause the old one would have required too much modifications to fit the new hardware.

2022
This i spoiled myself again, same hardware but i got a new cockpit and this time its a real one, no wood I got a brand new Advanced Simracing 4 aluminium cockpit, i've been having it for a little bit over 2 weeks now and i'm very happy with it This is how it look now.

Whats next
The next things that will come in the next few years in no order for now is a direct drive wheel, better pedals and a triple display. I'm not sure which one will come first tho so if you have any advice for me please share them One thing you have to considered tho is that going from the G29 to the Fanatec Clubsport haven't really made me that much faster or faster at all, i think it only made me more consistent laps after laps.

Here's an update to my rig (used to have a Simucube OSW - Small Mige)

• 4PlayRacing Race Platform
• Podium DD1
• Podium Porsche 911 GT3 wheel
• H Shifter
• V3 Inverted Pedals + Performance Brake Kit
• NRG (FRP-301) bucket seat with slider
• Etsy Emergency Stop / Power Button ( quite awesome )

Notes:

The 4PlayRacing 8020 platform I've got is the original version (18 inches of internal width between the vertical posts) that John (4PlayRacingUSA) doesn't sell anymore. He has a newer model for sale now called Competition (in Spec 30, or 45) in two different colors (Black or Silver). I originally used this with my Simucube OSW Setup (Small-MIGE). He still sells custom parts for it when asked (sold me the pre-cut Side Mount for the DD1). It uses the 15 (1.5 inch by 1.5 inch) series extrusions (imperial) instead of the metric extrusions (SimLab, TrakRacer, RigMetal). The 15 series extrusions are fairly easy to source in the US. I'm 6 foot tall, and weigh 210 pounds and I fit in this rig without issues. This thing is rock solid.

As for the Emergency Stop button, it's pretty awesome and I bought it from the ETSY shop "AllThingsSpeed". It has a power button so no need to locate the "small" button on the back to turn it off and on. Paid 50$ + shipping for it.

I'm very singular in my goal - don't really race other people, just hot laps after hot laps in the Nurburgring. Practicing when I go there again in 2024.
