Welcome to the RD Racing Club. Also for non premium members!

Are you new to simracing? Is Online Racing a step you haven't braved yet? Do you fear making mistakes or getting other people's way on track? Well guess what, this is the place to banish all of those thoughts and come and join us for a night of exceptional racing and camaraderie where none of those fears will be an issue.

Rookie Nights are aimed at you - the newcomers. New people to simracing, or simply people who jump on a server and find themselves seconds off the pace. Or are fed up with unrespectful behaviour on public servers. We want to help, and to give you a place to experience the wonderful joy of racing other simracers with the same passion and who give clean and respectful racing the highest priority.

If you have any question on the night about racing on RD or online in general, or about how you are driving or anything else - ASK. By posting in this thread or a PM to the organizer. We are a helpful bunch, and when it comes to getting people up to speed or doing our best to convince you to keep coming back! There is no such thing as a stupid question at these events.

Special features for this rookie event:

  • Non premium members can also sign up
  • The race is with an easy to drive and very forgiving car so you can fully concentrate on driving without having to fight with the car.
  • A good base setup for the MX5 will be provided when you sign up.
  • Questions can be asked in this thread and will be answered by the staff member. Or send a PM to him.
  • The race is hosted and attended by the organizing staff member
    • To monitor the race.
    • To kick participants who deliberate cause incidents (we want clean and respectful racing)
    • To give tips and advice for improvement after the race based on the replay (when asked for).

THIS EVENT IS NOT FOR OUR REGULAR PARTICIPANTS UNLESS INVITED.

To sign up for this event:

  • Make sure you have entered your real name in your RDAccount/Account Details. There's a field called 'Real Name'. It's for our internal communication only.
  • Post in this thread that you want to participate. You will receive a PM with the password to join, some extra information and the setup for the MX5.

If you want a to try faster cars there is an GT4 event on Sunday, also at Red Bull Ring. We also run a practice server all week for both events.

Can anyone tell me something about laptimes with the mx5 on RB ring? I’ve done some laps tonight with base setup and got to 1:52, is that doable for racing?

Han may correct me but generally discussing laptimes pre race on Racedepartment is discouraged as it could put slower drivers off signing up if they think they are too slow.

You will find there's a good spread of pace through the field and you will find someone to race with. That's certainly been my experience.

Hi Bouke,

In addition to what Douglas said, every laptime is good enough. If it should happen that you are very slow, I'm quite certain that we can get you within 2s of the midfield in, let's say 10 races. But please don't mind your laptimes. There are two things that are very important, the first is consistency is more important than speed. Only if your manage to do 20 laps within 1,5s you can start focussing on speed. It's a trap most beginners fall into.
Second is: have fun! If you are too tense or maybe disappointed in your performance then you will not keep racing with others. So relax and trust me if I say that you can become a midfielder but maybe even more.
Guys like Douglas have raced almost every week the last 1 1/2 years and they all have improved significally.

I would like to participate and share these wonderful event ideas, AC can still yield great races.

To all participants: one or our aliens (we call them so because they are insane fast) wanted to enter the rookie event. Of course I didn't allow that because he's nowhere near being a rookie but we've come to an agreement that he can join but with an older street version of the MX5, the ND
