Assetto Corsa Competizione has been updated! Build 2 brings with it a new car, track, VR and plenty of improvements too...

Pretty much every sim racing fan who lives in a world of internet connection and passing interest in our hobby will be aware that Assetto Corsa Competizione is a thing, and by the same token I'm sure they probably know that today is patch day. With that in mind, and following an unbelievably strange day that kept me from the laptop (and the ACC update) until almost midnight, let's have a look at the update notes and see what's new.

Oh, and sorry for the late posting... :)

Many thanks, but hey, I'm old. I am unable to clearly understand which one is headlights, similarly with wipers. Why don't they simply say it, rather than mumble jumbo. I am lost.......lol

In the lower section of the controls menu (where you assign the pedals and steering wheel) scroll to either right or left and you'll find options to assign buttons to wipers and headlights.
Then I think it's the Assists menu set them to manual and you're good to go ;)

I've been messing with the VR settings now for a few days. Results are ok, but it still needs a lot of work. The menu system is meh, and having to set things up on the 2D menu first, then go into the VR menu and hope you didn't forget anything, is a pain. Or with the innovative Load/Save screen, hope you saved it correctly. Not sure what Kunos was going for with that system?

Right now EA is not Early Access, it stands for Extreme Aggravation.:O_o: Maybe my expectations were a little too high. I thought Kunos would carry on from AC, and have all the simple stuff laid out. Guess I was wrong.

And having to do a pace lap every time? C'mon really? Who thought that was a good idea in the board meeting?:laugh:

I'm running the CV1, and is it just me, or when you move close to look at the gauges, does the dash move away from you? Is this happening to everyone, or do I have a tracking issue?

I have hope for this title, but man things are rough right now. Pretty much the same when the first AC came out. A lot of growing pains. I'm not trying to say anything bad, and I still support Kunos, but so far I'm a little disappointed. Maybe expecting something awesome right out of the gate was being a little too optimistic. But as time goes by things will get better.:thumbsup: I hope.

Edit: Pace lap complaint resolved.
VR still not there, ok, but more work needed. Same with menu system.

Thanks, but thats my problem; its not clearly stated, "wipers' and/or "headlights".....obviously something called "x" means, wipers, similarly, headlights....... I dont know what "x" is/equals, in both cases. Hopefully a manual will be issued on final release (or not).

Lol it sure does. I turned off my gaming PC so i can't take screenshots or anything, but saw it earlier and wipers says exactly that ----> wipers
and for headlights there's one that says flashing headlights and right below the other one that says something headlights, otherwise how would people find them :roflmao:

I'll keep persisting with trying to figure this out, it seems in definitely not the only one who is unable to hit 90fps no matter the settings with a beefy computer. Even seen guys with 2080ti having problems, so something is definitely going eskew. I'm sure eventually Kunos will figure it out or some magic setting will resolve the issue.

Game runs mint on triples with the 2080 but yeah absolutely unplayable in VR.

Can't say my VR experience is anything but disappointing tbh. Yeah, I know .. EA... but I have a feeling this is just the UE4 "enable VR" button on the compiler and that's about as good as its going to get. i7 7700K@4.8 with GTX 1080ti OC and its a struggle to maintain 90fps in the Vive Pro. I'm guessing those that think its smooth are running Oculus at 45fps with ASW 2.0. Can't imagine how anyone gets 90fps without severely downgraded visuals. Would love ASW 2.0 equivalent in SteamVR but Valve are too busy adding bugs to the SteamVR platform.

Yeah I agree, has to be locked to 45fps. To me it's a horrible effect, I'd sacrifice some overall quality to hit 90fps but everything on low/off made it look like an eraly gran Turismo still couldn't hit 90fps consistently.

I'll test again tonight with the settings in the video I posted but failing that may just stick to triples. To be honest it was kind of nice to drive without the rift on.

Yes i saw both of those and tried them, hence my frustration. In other words it didn't work (I have XBox One controller). I appreciate your assistance. It's fine, I will eventually sort it out I'm sure.

Looks clearly stated to me.

Thanks, Yes I saw both of these screens. I took "headlights" to mean either of "Enable Flashing lights" and/or "Cycle Light Stages". In the "wipers" case, I took wipers to mean "Cycle Wipers". I assigned each to me Xbox One controller. Did not work. Hence my frustrations. I thought I must have missed something.

I am pleased that others can understand this clearly. But, unfortunately no help to myself. I am starting to regret asking for assistance.

Lol, don't! Ok, last thing i can suggest. Assign those two buttons on your controller (cycle light stages and cycle wipers). Then in assists menu, set it manual (not sure if you did that as well). That should work, otherwise i suppose it's a gamepad issue you might want to report in the official forum.

Boy that Bentley really deserves it's Boatley nickname though, brakes are awful :p

Good to know, I thought it was my pedals and the load cell was going out. :laugh: Man they are spongy and ya gotta brake hard. Even the Lambo felt a little spongy, but not as bad. I like my brakes sensitive where I can just tap them. I kind of messed around with the brake settings a little. Anyone got any tips?

Holy Cow...now I do not feel so bad...LOL...but seriously hopefully on a later build Kunos can have this and other pop up dialogue boxes 'Disabled' also...much like the 'Proximity Red Arrows'

I think you can disable them - temporarily at least.

I stumbled upon it after pressing the F2 button.

I think you need to press it a couple of times and a menu comes up.

I did disable them but then restarted my race and they returned.

Thank you for persevering with me. Firstly, I hadn't tried night or wet weather until now The penny has finally dropped, when you mentioned "assists menu" and I see its set as automatic for both light and wipers. I had thought i needed to push a button to turn them on. I now see while driving in both environments, they both engage automatically (ie. without me having to push any button(s)....YAY!!..........cleva ACC).

Case solved. I will leave them as Automatic for now. Again, thank you. ;):)

For anyone dismayed with the vr, give this a go. You wont be disappointed, completely transformed the game for me. I am using a creaky old 2500k @4.5 and an msi 1080 armor. I went for TAA Epic by the way.

UE4 sharpening Filter:

(Thanks goes to "Georg Ortner" for sharing this on his Twitter Page! https://twitter.com/6e66o/status/1040526664680255490 )

The ingame sharpening filter in the options menu doesn't work in VR.

There is the possibility to at an sharpening filter manually in to UE4 games.
Make sure you can see hidden folders!!

Go to:

C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\AC2\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

and edit:
Engine.ini

(Set TAA to 'Epic or High' ingame for this to work properly. Edit Tonemapper.Sharpen how you like it.)

Place this in the Engine.ini file below everything else:

[ConsoleVariables]
r.TemporalAACatmullRom=1
r.TemporalAAPauseCorrect=1
r.TemporalAASamples=4
r.Tonemapper.Sharpen=4

Thanks for sharing these settings, it's a great improvement. I thought the image was already OK, certainly as good as many other games but this helped sharpen up the image both close up and the track distance.

I'll have to try that above.

Just got some smooth performance then, basically everything to low/off include aa. Then as suggesting in the video I shared resolution 200. Ran really smooth then and not too bad graphically with the 200 resolution. This was with asw forced on.

Whats TAA in the Video Options please? I don't see anything related to that, thanks

From my own testing I think this means

- set anti-aliasing level to high or epic
- set anti-aliasing type to Temporal

If you're not on Temporal anti-aliasing, the UE4 sharpening filter tries to sharpen something that is already sharp and makes it look awful.

You want to make your game blurry by putting Temporal on, then sharpen that with the UE4 sharpening filter ConsoleVariables.

There is also the option to start from the turn before the start finish line like in EA 0.1

I'm running the CV1, and is it just me, or when you move close to look at the gauges, does the dash move away from you? Is this happening to everyone, or do I have a tracking issue?

We are all on the same boat, pankiparus on the support forum says a fix is coming soon, it is a scaling issue, there is movement but very slow so we can barely notice it.
