When I'm at work but there's not a lot going on, I usually tend to look towards physics modding since I can't work on any modelling. Can get away with it quite easily, nothing too suspicious about excel with numbers/graphs - people would start asking questions if I installed 3ds and was working on a model

Good work on that one, is not as hard as it seems, I'm sure you figured that out already

AI cars are held in a "non physics" mode when they are not driving, right? Does tilting the pit marker Nulls help? Or does that just result in the lollipop boy doing this?

Maybe ask the guy who did the Tajo road. I believe he had the same issue

the modifier wasn't applied in the screen. I'm currently "knifing" it in shape

I have always used projected shrink wrapped objects, then join and clean up the topography with any extrudes after that. Though your method would make for better results on things like the duel faces that you have on the rocker panel. Are you manually knifing the destination object to make your vents or is there a modifier for this? I will have to try that out when I run into that situation.
quick example on file I am working on

simple outline object of cut out, (air vent, keyhole) also works for extrusions

shrink wrapped to the surface (usually do some work to ensure that the vertices align so no clipping like at top left)

(again some greater work done to topography than shown)

Gives a decent result for the time it takes

I think the result is the same, combination of two meshes without any vert bumping or cutting by hand. The Boolean modifier will not always work, sometimes it seems to need clear inside/outside of a mesh, sometimes it does not (like with my car body up there). But the stencils I used where "watertight"

this is how it the mesh will look directly after applying the modifier:

so ofc it will need a lot of manual reworkto shape the faces. But still heaps faster and cleaner than cutting holes with the Knife tool

Ah so that is the boolean modifier, neat. I wish you could disable n-gons make some of the modifiers work better when modeling for game engines.

this is of no help here, as you can see the final tris count is 1,7 million for that car there... a few magnitudes of from the ~300.000 benchmark. That guy is modelling for renders.
IMO blender's subsurf really can't be used on game models.
