The SimFeedback-AC DIY Motion Simulator thread

Hey guys. Thought I’d create a thread for those taking the plunge into this brilliant DIY project..
I will be starting mine soon and I know there are others thinking about it.. so feel free to share your knowledge and experiences so we can all enjoy this platform to its full potential. A huge thanks to the developers who have really knocked this one out of the park!

For all the internals for the actuator contact Amy - skye@ntl-bearing.com
She can supply everything you need. Just remind her you want the ends of the shafts chamfered and make sure she sends the right sized ball screw - we have had a couple of issues reported. She is very helpful though and the cost is pretty good.

Huge thanks to @RowanH for writing a comprehensive user guide which can be accessed here - https://www.rowanhick.com/sfx-100-build-and-running-guide

In addition, @anton_Chez has contributed a list of post numbers for some of the important settings etc..

I will try to keep this page updated with links to source the parts in other parts of the world. Just post whatever links you have and i'll add them here.

Please note: Not all the parts listed below are essential for the project. For the essential parts refer to the original shopping list.

Hi all, totally new to the SFX-100 - 3d printing parts and ordering all this past week. I have the extrusion and the servo motors ordered. However the I am having a bugger of a time trying to order these parts. Does anyone have someone other than NTL Bearings where I can get these parts reasonably priced? I am looking for a single source rather than muliple to save shipping charges to Canada.

- Precision Hollow Shaft 30-20-270 30mm diameter - 20mm Bore - 270mm Length Bevel on both ends
- 1605 Ball screw and Nut - Length 250mm Machined
- LMEK30UU(30x47x68) Linear bearing
- Coupling-30-40-10x16 Diameter-30mm Length 40mm
- FK12 Ball Screw Support

Really appreciate your help! - I want to have everything at least ordered to make sure I just have to sit back and wait for the parts.

Also in Canada. If I was ordering again, I would still consider NTL bearings for all of that stuff except the 1605 Ballscrew which I would order from banggood.com. I don’t think you’ll beat that value and banggood’s ball screw had worked well for many others.

I've had intermittent audio interruptions for a few weeks that seemed to coincide with a shader patch update (AC) so I put the issue down to new audio options, and investigated accordingly with no success. I'm busy light-modding a few tracks at the moment which involves lots of testing, and I noticed I wasn't getting any cut-outs when the motion rig wasn't active.

Long story short, a ferrite core added at either end of the Arduino USB cable and at each end of the HDMI between my PC and amp solved the problem.

Moral: ferrite cores rock. Try them first for any anomalies and you might save yourself a whole bunch of time.

Just ordered the equipment from NTL bearings. Only thing I have left to order are the bolts and 90 degree attachments to my current rig. It will be sometime before I build an aluminum extrusion cockpit, but it is on the agenda. I will get things working with my existing wooden platform as its pretty easy to just install with l brackets and lag bolts into wood.

Having serious warping problems with the PETG filament. So I´d build myself the Prusa Lack cabinet.
Pretty fun actually and I´m going to do some test prints after the weekend.
Luckily I´m in no hurry. Long waiting time for both the DD2 or the Simucube 2 (hoping for some serious reviews soon so I can make up my mind). Can´t order a rig before I have choosen a wheel setup.
Are where any Swedes what are planning of building a IKEA Lack cabinett? I´ve got two sets of plexiglas left over since I had to buy a big sheet of plexi and had it cut out.
enclosure your printer bed heated to 100 degrees, Nozzle 235 degrees then you get minimum warping with Petg but it is a little there

It’s either 2 of the controllers or the cabling segment up to the motor connection.. i checked and it was not the coupling. I used one of the working controllers/servo to move one faulty actuator and it worked fine (for a moment I was pretty scared that it were the motors). Next test is to de-rack and redo the cabling to use one the alleged faulty controllers into one working setup, keeping fingers crossed for it to be just be some internal damaged cable...

Follow-up to this troubleshooting. Issue was solved when I rearranged the cabling, not sure if EMI related but when I split the cabling in 2 pairs, grouping 4 in one side up to the rack and 4 on the other side everything moved smoothly!

As already had received my Pyronius board, couldn’t resist and sprinted to get all up and running today. I just finished my first session and what can I say... this is the best (by far) experience I had with a moving sim!

Can’t thank enough Saxxon and all the team for this authentic marvel. What a fine piece of engineered machinery, works like a charm! Thank you!!

Well my stuff from Kinetic showed up yesterday, which is much quicker than I was expecting (less than two weeks since I ordered it). What to order next lol.

I already have one of the SFX-100 Shields too; what does that eliminate off the shopping list?

Well this thread has started something

3D printer purchased - Got myself an Ender 3 Pro, which I have built and up and printing ok I think , lots to learn though with this 3d printing, when I get a couple of decent prints under my belt I’ll make a start on the bits for the Sim and start acquiring the parts for the rest of the kit.

Just need to keep it all secret from the wife
