The SimFeedback-AC DIY Motion Simulator thread

Hey guys. Thought I’d create a thread for those taking the plunge into this brilliant DIY project..
I will be starting mine soon and I know there are others thinking about it.. so feel free to share your knowledge and experiences so we can all enjoy this platform to its full potential. A huge thanks to the developers who have really knocked this one out of the park!

For all the internals for the actuator contact Amy - skye@ntl-bearing.com
She can supply everything you need. Just remind her you want the ends of the shafts chamfered and make sure she sends the right sized ball screw - we have had a couple of issues reported. She is very helpful though and the cost is pretty good.

Huge thanks to @RowanH for writing a comprehensive user guide which can be accessed here - https://www.rowanhick.com/sfx-100-build-and-running-guide

In addition, @anton_Chez has contributed a list of post numbers for some of the important settings etc..

I will try to keep this page updated with links to source the parts in other parts of the world. Just post whatever links you have and i'll add them here.

Please note: Not all the parts listed below are essential for the project. For the essential parts refer to the original shopping list.

I´ve ordered a cabinet for the servos and have some question about the electrics.
1. Residual-current device - do I need a seperate RCD in the cabinet? (I´ve got one in my electric central in my house). Overkill?
2. I´d like to install a electric switch in the cabinet and a seperate pc power cord to run the system.
But I´m wondering if thats possible. The switch have a 10A fuse and the cord has the spec Max 250V/10A.
If I have understand things correctly the servos and motors needs 16A.
I´m obviuos not an electrician so do you guys this is possible or dangerous?

Looking great Hugo!
The shipping costs are enormous. What more USB cables do I need beside the one from the Arduino to the PC? Best to order everything at the same time,

Maybe from your pedals also? I had many problems with my Heusinkveld and USB. Also my buttonbox sometimes missed a shift, got that solved with Ferrites and re-routing. Basically anything that’s on your rig (or close to the SFX100 motor cables) and uses USB maybe? Also I think their USB extension cable is very good too. Shipping costs to Germany are only 3,95 euro.. but before you start shipping to USA or such, I’m sure you have similar stuff around the globe. Maybe even AliExpress?

But first try if your existing cables already work, maybe add some clip on Ferrite cores before you order any new cables?

I've been using this with zero issues on two different motherboards:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JBN6C5C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

$10 for 3 10ft braided USB cables. No ferrites on the ends.

yup, I'm using something similar here in Europe: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07GQZHV12 the plugs hold in very stiff on both sides, I like that. But I added clip-on ferrites though because I'm routing them alongside the motor cables.

D-Sub breakoutboard
Cables Arduino wiring
breadboard(OR) Wago Connectors

Is my understanding, got my 3D printer running yesterday, just getting to grips with it all, everything ordered, just waiting for deliveries and of course 3D printing :) if I can stop printing snazzy aids for my printer first

Cheers

Hi guys, just bought my 3D printer so I'm starting my SFX-100 build.

Noob question: I have pre-ordered the "Arduino SFX Shield/Extension Board" (group buy on this forum). Could anyone tell me which items from the shopping list (https://opensfx.com/shopping-list-and-sourcing-parts/#shopping) this replaces? I suppose I don't need the breadboard, but what else?

Thanks!

The shield replaces the breakout board, the breadboard and the wires

https://www.amazon.de/SODIAL-Steckbrett-Breadboard-Experimentierboard-Steckplatine/dp/B00JGFDKBQ

If you need some WAGO connectors, i can ship them to you together with the shield

According the IEC, the IEC C13 connector (the one on your image) is certified for 10A max. And those mains cables are using wire diameters for these currents. Which doesn't mean, it cannot handle higher amperage (the C13 connector should be able to handle up to 15A according the UL certification), but if you want to stay on the safe side, don't use those (nobody guarantees, the generic C13 mains cables are assembled with the right wire). Although most probably the 4 servos will never take that much power, but still.

If you want to use a standard cable / connector off the shelf, supposed to use with this amperage, you should use C19 mains wire with C20 plug. That should handle 16A (or 20A according UL).

As examples:
https://www.amazon.com/ACP1034-Standard-approvals-Suitable-European/dp/B07DCSY2FL
https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/power-cable-assemblies/6266723/

And the connector for the enclosure (IEC C20):
https://www.amazon.com/Interpower-83030400-Disconnects-Socket-Rating/dp/B00917YWMK

I assume, you can find this with a built-in switch as well, if you prefer that way.

The fuse is another question. There are plenty of options. You can even use automotive fuses as well.

I started ordering everything on the14th April and have received almost everything, except the motors (Aliexpress), ball screws and fixed bearings (rc-letmathe).

I have received a text today off DHL stating my motors are due to come Monday, but they require import tax. However, when I log on to my DHL account there is no mention of this at all.

I still don't have any notification about my ball screws and fixed bearings yet. They are showing on my account as paid, but no movement since the 14th April. It says delivery date open and no parcel number.

Is this normal?

In unrelated news, my Fanatec DD1 preorder has shipped and will arrive on Monday! I've been using my wonderful SFX-100 rig with a *lowly* Fanatec CSL Elite wheel base. That's been the last piece I've been awaiting for a true top-tier rig!
We need photos when it arrives.
Followed by a review a few days later.

UGHHH.. Dealing with Kinetik is horrendous.. Their communication is beyond woeful..
Paid 10 days ago.. Received an invoice asking for payment 2 days ago.. Have tried to contact them to get the order progressing (including an email response 4 minutes after they emailed me) and still no reply

In other news.. Got my 3D printer.. Broke it already (extruder gear stripped) replacement parts and spares on the way.. 2-3 weeks at best

Does anybody have an updated shopping list for the usa market? I am interested in starting to build this. Been itching hahaha is everything still available for people to order?

Also has anybody tried with triple screen mounted onto the rig and sfx out of curiosity. Thank you

Strange, I had no issues with Kinetik at all.
Invoice came after a day or 2, I paid it and a few days later the profiles arrived.
It just looks as though your payment isn’t linked to your account when you make it.
Just make sure when you pay it you add all your info to the payment.

The only issue I had was my fault, ordering the 4mm T nuts instead of the 8mm because the links provided (in the shopping list) went straight to the 4mm.

I ordered everything at once and Kinetik wee probably the first to deliver.

Wait until you order the screw and bearings. I still haven’t had any response despite ordering and paying for them on the 14th April.

What printer is it and how did you manage to strip the gears?

DHL delivered my stuff then billed me later.... Just as you start to think 'ive got away without paying any tax' :)

Strange, I ordered and paid by paypal, have had an email saying delivered, but I have yet to see anything turn up, guessing that means despatched?
