The SimFeedback-AC DIY Motion Simulator thread

Hey guys. Thought I’d create a thread for those taking the plunge into this brilliant DIY project..
I will be starting mine soon and I know there are others thinking about it.. so feel free to share your knowledge and experiences so we can all enjoy this platform to its full potential. A huge thanks to the developers who have really knocked this one out of the park!

For all the internals for the actuator contact Amy - skye@ntl-bearing.com
She can supply everything you need. Just remind her you want the ends of the shafts chamfered and make sure she sends the right sized ball screw - we have had a couple of issues reported. She is very helpful though and the cost is pretty good.

Huge thanks to @RowanH for writing a comprehensive user guide which can be accessed here - https://www.rowanhick.com/sfx-100-build-and-running-guide

In addition, @anton_Chez has contributed a list of post numbers for some of the important settings etc..

I will try to keep this page updated with links to source the parts in other parts of the world. Just post whatever links you have and i'll add them here.

Please note: Not all the parts listed below are essential for the project. For the essential parts refer to the original shopping list.

Profiles arrived yesterday all nice and shiny nuts and inserts as well. The inserts look to be the right ones as the hex runs through the whole length. Is that correct?

Also I’m counting about 70 ish arduino shields across three forums but I’m not on iRacing so there may be more on there. Assume we are close to the 100+ needed for a group buy

I know the degree of severity can be turned down but how much do people’s rigs move when they have “normal” settings. I’m going to be tight for space and have started thinking about how to restrict walking.
How would 3D printed cups for the feet to sit in similar to the dBox cups work?

I printed cups (hyperlink to thingiverse is a few pages back) and screw-mounted them to a sheet of OSB. I put the rubber "washer/dryer" foot cups inside the 3D printed cups (great fit) and then the 3D printed foot at the base of the hollow shaft sits inside of all that.

Cheers sounds like a good option. How much walking do you get? And what flooring is it on?

Mine will be a laminate floor
Even with the cups screwed into the plywood, I'll still get minor walking when I toy around with extreme (uncomfortable) profiles, but it's much better than when I just had the feet.

My rig is on a hardwood floor with a rug.

this seems to be the same as the recommended kit, but at 1000 instead of 750 watts. any thoughts?

Why not just order the ones that the system was designed around which would also get you the sales support and tech support. Even saving $100 wouldn't be worth it. As far as convenience it isn't inconvenient to order from the gentleman on Aliexpress, in fact it was quite easy and he is super quick to respond.

You're right, of course. My tendency to overbuild everything had me overthinking.

It'll seem overwhelming at first but over time the whole thing will come together in your head and you'll be driving inside of a couple months. Just follow the directions and ask a lot of questions, and read every page of this eternal thread. :O_o:
