rFactor 2 Goes Proper Endurance with Vanwall Vandervell LMH Reveal

Fitting to the previous announcement of Bahrain coming to rFactor 2 in their Q4 content drop, the first LMH is coming to the racing sim. This Vanwall Vandervell LMH marks the beginning of the new WEC era in sim racing.

Perfectly fitting with 2 previous announcements, the new Hypercar era is lighting up the sim racing scene.

First, rFactor 2 announced Bahrain for presumed WEC usage, then iRacing announced the BMW LMDh to be included and now rFactor tops the Q4 announcement with a beautiful first look at the first LMH car to be added.

The Vanwall Vandervell LMH for the sim was created by Vanwall themselves, using their data and therefore this DLC car aims to give as realistic an onlook as rFactor 2 allows.

This announcement seems to pave the way for Motorsport Games' rFactor 2 to take on the sim route of their acquired licenses. While the rest of the studio may still work on dedicated games for the BTCC or WEC licenses, Studio 397 goes the hardcore sim racing route.

Now what remains to be seen is when these content licenses will be fulfilled by. Judging by the current rate of DLC release, the full BTCC grid could be completed rather quickly, while a full WEC grid would take quite some more.

With Toyota, Glickenhaus, Peugeot, Ferrari and a possible Isotta Fraschini still looming for the LMH category, LMDh still needs to be completely populated. With Porsche and Cadillac aiming to run in the 2023 WEC season too, that makes a possible 7 cars that would need to be included still to feature a full WEC 2023 grid.

Furthermore, it was announced that the following 2 days would feature both a circuit as well as a feature announcement, so stay tuned for that.

What do you think of this reveal? Looking forward to endurance events with an LMH? Let us know in the comments down below!

Most people who complain don't have a clue what enormous amounts of money a license on a car or track costs these days. If you don't sell millions of copies and settle a less hardcore sim approach to make up for it, pricing can't be much lower than this and still keep a company running. There are some licenses in rF2 that cost in the 5 zeros range.
Obtaining the license to a Laserscan can also be very costly.
That's without the work that needs to be done to make the content.
Just to give you guys an idea.

100% of the rf2 discussions start well on the first page and finish in whining about prices and such...

Maybe my view is skewed, but I find quibbling about a DLC that may cost even $25.00 kinda..............................dumb.

You pay$300-400.00 for the cheapest wheel/brake combo. A decent PC to run it is going to cost you $800-1300.00. A decent monitor even 1080, add another $250.00. So you are out 2k before you buy one title. Now if you take the initial 2k outlay and divide it into even $100.00 worth of software, the software is .05% of your total spend.

Developers need to eat like everyone else. This free expectation needs to stop. I just bought a set of Heusinkveld Ultimate + pedals. I don't think the software is what is sucking me dry.
All of that is stuff you want though, the expensive wheels etc. If its content you want the prices are not bad. A costco hotdog can seem overpriced if you dont want hotdogs.

A whole bunch of wec content dropping will be another example to me of online where you are going to buy a lot of content you dont want to race in the car you do want. Thats an example where its overpriced because you dont want it, wont race it but will have to buy it.

I don't get that argument tbh. If you want to do multiclass racing, you will have to pay for multiclass racing. Essentialy you are racing the other cars aswell. There is no god given garantue that every sim offers the same pricing and content structure like iRacing, AMS2 or Raceroom and there are obviously drawbacks with their system aswell. Interestingly both moddable modern sims - AC and rF2 - are pretty strict in this regard. I don't have a problem that I have to buy the content that is used in a race. What bothers me more is that people have to buy all the content that is used within a series. No other sim on the market offers a system like that, and this for very good reason. And it is most likely one of the reasons why the official CS has more promblems gaining traction than LFM.

I understand not everyone is thinking the same as I am, but people certainly do and I was addressing that its not always the small one off cost when you find you might have to buy every single wec piece of DLC just to join a server.

Its not how the rf2 devs market it either, its just how we try and justify how it is.

At the end of the day S397 is not forcing anyone to buy anything. IMO the prices are resonable for what we get. I dont care or FE or BTTC so I'll skipped on most of that...didn't get the Reiza stuff either... It's your choice what you get. Lets hope the new store front opens the door to more frequent sales for the people that want to wait. As long S397 keeps release content is a good thing in my book and I'll keep on supporting the content I like.

Seems much like the dead air surrounding the BTCC game the WEC game is on the shelf collecting dust...

I just can't find any confidence in MSGS ability to complete things and they got rF2 in a mess...

I'm at least happy that rF2 gets more content, albeit behind more barriers in paywalls... But that's about it... Feels like it's a few years away from being worthwhile still...

EDIT: From what I've read in this thread you have to buy all the content involved in a race not just what you want to drive??? If that's the case as long as that's the case there's going to be room for all of the competitors to overtake rF2 no matter how much WEC content they provide...

BTCC was put off til 2023 I thought, that is why rF2 can release the 2021-22 BTCC cars.
No word on Indycar or WEC that I know of.
The 'buy-all' to race has been known for 5 years. Still folks bring it up like it is something.
You have to match what the server has..if the server only has the Ferrari GT3 then that is all YOU need. But most servers try to cover entire groups so YES, to race GT3 you almost always need all the GT3. Package prices are reduced to compensate for that...you just missed a Halloween sale with 50 to 75% off certain packages. Life goes on.

It has been known for a long time, ive got a couple thousand hours in it but haven't really used it since our league stopped using it. I really like rf2 but if its a barrier for me its a barrier for other people.

I know people that have bought content, found they needed other content to join a server were stuck, not wanting to buy all the other content and not being able to use what they did get for the intended purpose.

Packs make things cheaper.. What happens when they roll things out car by car? You have to buy things full price and keep buying cars you dont drive at full price when the server adds them.

I know its not a barrier for you but as a long time rf2 user who knows far more people in other sims it is a barrier for adoption. When someone is happy with another sim and you want them to use your sim, you remove needless barriers.

Understood, Marcel tried to change it with no luck, the current management team in place for about a year or so haven't been able to change it either. The only 'easy' solution, it would seem, would be to cease package sales alltogether and only sell individual items because it would appear the code that requires everyone has the same content is central to the original ISI program which was written long before DLC. Can't say I see any real change in the near or middling future.

I mess endurance discount. Maby they give us some discount for christmass...

I should have known they would do one of the non hybrid LMDh/LMH cars instead of adding hybrid to the game lol

since they don't HAVE a publicly known hybrid system, your statement is correct. I would guess they won't have a hybrid UNTIL they release some sort of WEC/LeMans game.

I uninstalled rF2 a month ago. I don't like the business model it's turned into. The most expensive DLC in the history of simracing. I will not come back.
A little funny that I have always argued against this sentiment.

I have always said things like, "guys, why don't you support the die hard developers efforts? it's only something between 7 and 40 $."

Until one time I did the math and found out that I've spent MULTIPLE hundreds of $ without feeling or realizing it at the time. Also, not going to say a lot of negative things more than that I also realized that I ended up with tens of useless rubbish games that Youtuber and journalist racing games shills convinced me to buy. So bold and brazen to sometimes make you buy a 2D mobile phone racing/ driving game thinking that it's the most realistic physics engine in the world.
