iRacing Will Add BMW M Hybrid V8 LMDh

iRacing is one of the leaders in the simracing industry and has a strong bond with several automotive manufacturers. BMW M Motorsport is pushing hard along what the sim racing community has to offer and get the most out of this new competitive discipline and is delivering its impressive developments as soon as they are ready.

After the BMW M4 GT3, the LMDh car will be the second car being developed at the same time in the virtual and real world. This collaboration was announced at the BMW SIM Live event last Saturday.

“When it comes to introducing real BMW M race cars to the virtual world, BMW M Motorsport and iRacing have been close and perfectly attuned partners for many years,” said Maurizio Leschiutta, LMDh project leader at BMW M Motorsport. “As the head of such an important project, confidentiality is my number one priority; it would be fatal if the competition discovered the technical details of our car that we want to keep secret. In that respect, I came away really impressed by iRacing’s professionalism. We are making CAD data and findings from our simulator and racetrack tests available to iRacing. They are used as the basis on which to create a realistic virtual version. This gives every sim racer the opportunity to experience the performance of a state-of-the-art prototype and the appeal of BMW M Motorsport.”

“We’re incredibly excited to confirm that the BMW M Hybrid V8 will be coming to iRacing in the coming months,” said iRacing executive vice president Steve Myers. “We’ve been eagerly anticipating the LMDh class for a few years now, and BMW M Motorsport’s support has been indispensable in helping us to bring both their entry and the new class to iRacing. Building this car in the sim has been a joy for our team, and we can’t wait to see the community’s response upon release."

BMW M Motorsport and iRacing have already collaborated on several projects like BMW M8 GTE, BMW M4 GT4 and BMW M4 GT3. The LMDh car should be ready to take the start of 24 Hours of Daytona in January, and we should expect to be able to test virtually even before the release of the S1 2023 on iRacing.

What are your feeling about this new category? Are you eager to drive it on iRacing?

What I like about the new content for the most part, when it is released, it is also available for AI. Hopefully this will be the first of many LMDh and GTP cars to come.

Well shoot, bring in the rest of imsa GTP and let it fly, this is great.
Despite some shortcomings it is the most enjoyable for me. And I am not that fast a solid 5-7 place average finisher

Guys in my team, including myself, can't wait to drive it. Big excitement Saturday when the news first came out

Are you eager to drive it on iRacing?
Sure!

Honestly, if iRacing focus on IMSA content, i might be tempted to actually try it out for once.
iRacing already has two series based on IMSA, currently racing the Dallara P217 (LMP2) and GT3s. There's IMSA Sprint (45 min races ) and Endurance (2h40, min 2 drivers per car).

Mostly racing in USA/Canadian tracks, but occasionally stretch to race at Fuji, Suzuka, Imola, which I personally find great.

My favorite series ATM.

But I agree these series would be more enjoyable with the top class better represented, with a proper Cadillac (the chassis would be the Dallara P217 anyways, but it with another engine and bodywork), Acura, and Nissan IMSA prototypes.

Maybe now it's the time for that.

Yea but as you correctly said, top class is not represented best. And personally what i meant with my post was that if the new GTP class according to LMDh (and maybe even LMH) spec were focussed on, that would really get my heart pumping.

I should have said, I want a WEC & IMSA Sim for 2023 seasons onwards, and if iRacing can deliver on that, I'd seriously consider checking it out ^^

In this decadent europe playing with iracing is for people with a lot of money
I fail to see a connection between decadence and iRacing, but compared to other hobbies the price is not that high. A year's subscription for around 100 Euros (too lazy to look up current price, sorry), is about 9 Euros a month. Each iracing year has four seasons of 12+1 weeks, for a series to count you need to cover 8 weeks. At the start you will need to rent a couple of cars and tracks (probably six tracks and one car to run in an IMSA series)(some tracks and cars are free) which are about 14 Euros per item, so that would be another 85 Euros minus 20% for bulk purchase, so 70 Euros for the first three months, coming up to 33 Euros a month. For a service that provides 24h of online racing, pairing you with players of equal skill, that does not seem like decadence to me. Where I live, renting a squash court with racket and balls included is about 15 Euros an hour, just for comparison.

I might get the BMW, though I am usually not skilled enough for the fast high downforce cars. It just looks, soooo good.

This makes your GT3/GTE/LMP immediately obsolete and historic content.
Not the gt3. There will always be, I guess, people that prefer cars with less downforce. The new prototypes and the GT3 class will be both quite populated I guess.

A normal person who cant get the 50% specials for first time memberships (me) will buy it on black friday special. While not the special it used to be it was 87usd for a year last time.

For each season, if you race 8 times in a series over the 12 weeks you get back either $4 or $7 in credits depending on the series.. Max $10 per season.

Four seasons... race on average 1.333 races a week and you will get a $40 credit taking the yearly fee to $47 or < $4/month

Like you say, not expensive really at full price but cheap if you use the service and buy a year at one of the 2 yearly sales.

Please drop the sub fees for AI races.

I always want to try iracing for its content such as official NASCAR, Indy support series, Aussie Supercars and some unique cars like the Dallara LMP2 and now BMW LMDh. I have no interest in MP at all but I have a lot of interest in AI and the extensive championship mode. Please let me hotlap or race with AI without a sub.

What's in it for iRacing if they do that?

more customers? personally I am in iRacing for the online racing, I think I've done about a handful of AI races since it's been introduced (and the AI is stunningly good, so it's not their fault I don't use it) but there are many players who do not like online racing and having a pay model for online racing and another one for using the AI content might make sense. But, not knowing the numbers, who am I to say?

I still can't decide whether the nose is cool or ridiculous. It's like a guy with really big pair of nostrils.
