RaceRoom Releases FR X-22, Teases Trucks

After months of wait and weeks of drip marketing, the time has finally come for RaceRoom to release the FR X-22. The new Formula 1-inspired vehicle comes ready to drive with tons of liveries. Release is 31st of August, 2022.

The wait is finally over. KW Studios released their newest Formula 1-inspired vehicle on the 31st of August, 2022.

The new open wheeler comes with a few brand new additions to RaceRoom:
  • Hybrid Engine
  • MGU-K Modes
  • Overtake Mode
  • HALO Visibility Switch
  • New Bindings and Car Setup Menu Items
What's more is with this update, another vehicle has been added to the game, though not yet officially released. Something called a "RaceRoom Truck" has been spotted in the updated files. We have yet to see the exact details of this new vehicle, however a sneak peak in DDF Racers video deliveres some answers.

Here's the full changelog:

Dedi version = 86.0.1385
Dedi BuildID = 9421904
  • New Content - Formula RaceRoom X-22
  • Added support for hybrid engines, MGU-K modes switches, Overtake mode, HALO visibility setting, new bindings and car setup menu elements, all featured in the Formula RaceRoom X-22
  • Added support for trackside animations (wind turbines, planes near airports, birds, etc)
  • Added support for dirt buildup on the vehicles during long driving sessions, off road excursions, etc.
  • Added support for normal maps on track textures
  • Formula RaceRoom X-17 - Physics updates, suspension and tyre tweaks to give more force at low speed, less at high speed. Base setup improvements, improved differential settings, tweaks to engine heat and cooling, increased mechanical trail for increased self-centering steering forces, better tyre heating behaviour, reduced lap time performance differences across the tyre compounds and increased the differences in wear rates and reduced fuel tank capacity to 140 L. Equalised AI/player tyre wear rates as well as improved AI’s fuel use estimations.
  • Bilster Berg - animated wind turbines
  • Daytona - Updated chicane curbs to 2022 specs, added normal maps for grass and tarmac, added animated planes and added blinking neons to the ferris wheel
  • Motorland Aragon - Brushed up AI corridors so they have increased respect for track limits
  • Motorland Aragon - Added penalty lap area, normal maps to road and terrain, updated sausage curbs.
  • Nogaro - Extended the pit entrance gate, added grass and tarmac normal maps, added small planes activities at the aeroclub.
  • RaceRoom Hillclimb - Animated blimp and balloon
  • Watkins Glen - Redone some curbs in 3D, added normal maps to road and terrain, added a missing tyrewall
  • Zolder - animated wind turbines

Yeah, really:

"Formula 1 cars have very little to no turbo lag, because their engines usually run at extremely high RPMs. When it comes to road cars, the turbo only kicks in when the RPMs begin to build, but F1 cars rarely drop their RPMs low enough for the turbo to stop running, meaning they get an instant turbo boost when accelerating.

However, another reason F1 engines don’t experience turbo lag is that the turbocharger is connected to the MGU-H, which uses waste exhaust gases to generate battery power within the hybrid system. As soon as the driver presses the accelerator, some of this electrical power is used to spin the turbocharger right away, rather than waiting for the exhaust gases to spin the turbine."

-------------------

"The MGU-H, the generator that takes heat from the engine and converts it into energy, is set to be scrapped entirely.

This will theoretically make the engines louder, which was one of the early criticisms of the turbo-hybrid era.

With the removal of the MGU-H, the drivers are once again expected to be faced with the issue of turbo lag."

-------------------

"The hybrid engines of today get around this problem by using electricity stored in batteries and generated by several sources of power, braking, heat and the exhaust turbine, which runs a generator. The electrical power generated by these sources help spin the turbo via motors up to the optimum operating speed to obviate the turbo lag. In other words, when the F1 pilot presses the accelerator, the turbo is helped up to speed by the electrical motor to eliminate the lag that would otherwise come from the mechanical process of solely spinning it up via exhaust gasses."

-------------------

"Modern F1 cars do not have a turbolag because of the ERS-H (energy recycing system). It reserves heat energy, but is also able to accelerate the turbo to it's optimal range. The charger between the two sides of the turbo can be used to spin it up to pace."

After getting the FR-X22. I'm going to say Avoid it for now. ASM2 has almost all the same hybrid functions and it's easier to drive fast. It's just not worth it and it's not fun to drive. The single most annoying unpleasant thing is on throttle corner exit, it lags so bad when the power finally kicks in, it spins out in any gear. Lateral grip is poor on warm tires and the AI will leave you in the dust while you're figuring out the traction limits every lap.

5/10 at post patch, AI still too fast, rear grip on warm tires still poor, hybrid power is barely noticeable, engine map 5 is too much power for non attacking racing. It's just too difficult. Please tell me it's just me...

They still have best sounds. Ok, maybe not the most realistic but there's so much balls, dirt and on your face-attitude in those sounds, you just can't unlike.

And about graphics, like in iRacing, that's good thing so you can easily run it with high enough fps's. Let's face it, no one wants to drive anything under 144fps(in emergency maybe 120>).
