RaceRoom Releases FR X-22, Teases Trucks

After months of wait and weeks of drip marketing, the time has finally come for RaceRoom to release the FR X-22. The new Formula 1-inspired vehicle comes ready to drive with tons of liveries. Release is 31st of August, 2022.

The wait is finally over. KW Studios released their newest Formula 1-inspired vehicle on the 31st of August, 2022.

The new open wheeler comes with a few brand new additions to RaceRoom:
  • Hybrid Engine
  • MGU-K Modes
  • Overtake Mode
  • HALO Visibility Switch
  • New Bindings and Car Setup Menu Items
What's more is with this update, another vehicle has been added to the game, though not yet officially released. Something called a "RaceRoom Truck" has been spotted in the updated files. We have yet to see the exact details of this new vehicle, however a sneak peak in DDF Racers video deliveres some answers.

Here's the full changelog:

  • New Content - Formula RaceRoom X-22
  • Added support for hybrid engines, MGU-K modes switches, Overtake mode, HALO visibility setting, new bindings and car setup menu elements, all featured in the Formula RaceRoom X-22
  • Added support for trackside animations (wind turbines, planes near airports, birds, etc)
  • Added support for dirt buildup on the vehicles during long driving sessions, off road excursions, etc.
  • Added support for normal maps on track textures
  • Formula RaceRoom X-17 - Physics updates, suspension and tyre tweaks to give more force at low speed, less at high speed. Base setup improvements, improved differential settings, tweaks to engine heat and cooling, increased mechanical trail for increased self-centering steering forces, better tyre heating behaviour, reduced lap time performance differences across the tyre compounds and increased the differences in wear rates and reduced fuel tank capacity to 140 L. Equalised AI/player tyre wear rates as well as improved AI’s fuel use estimations.
  • Bilster Berg - animated wind turbines

Everyone is different. If it takes 20+ hours to achieve a reasonable level of driving, I don’t have the interest or time.
when i say 20 hrs thats so you understand when to use this and that between ICE and electrics ; etc ; but i guess you had previously spent time in the ams2 car

I cannot drive Formula 1 cars quickly but I was interested (bought it as well, something like 3.98 EUR for a brand new car is no-brainer if you want to support the devs as well).

I thought I was gonna say (as always) that Raceroom has way too much cornering grip which makes most cars feel the same. I drive far away from the limits but the fundamental difference between F122 and a Tatuus F4 is that you need to learn to modulate the throttle. My problem is the same as with DTM2020 which is also similar to a GT3 during braking and mid-corner and only differs when accelerating out of corners.

However, I tried rFactor's Formula Pro afterwards and concluded that R3E F122 drives pretty similar, with rFactor feeling more alive and better FFB, as in general. So I believe that while R3E is great for FWD touring cars, pretty bad at anything GT3/GTE/Porsche Cup/LMP, it's relatively acceptable at high downforce single seaters... but again it is the class I drive the least.

Oh and liveries are good quality (especially compared to the abysmal rF2 stock liveries) but it's pretty lame that they are country based - where in professional auto racing you see national teams?
A1 grand prix championship had national teams ;)

Tonight, I raced the RRR and AMS2 current F1 cars back-to-back at Spa. I played each game for about an hour each. It really wasn't even close. I tried to dial in all the RRR settings as best I could. I have no idea what these cars really feel like however the RRR car physics was not as fun and felt very unpredictable. My experience with RRR was so sour tonight, I honestly don't know why I would ever use the game again. I really feel bad about this. I own ever track and car in RRR. In addition to the driving itself, RRR loads slow, HUD options are bad, and has been beaten to death, truly looks second rate to AMS2.
As much as i love RRRE i find this new FR 22 not as good as they want us to believe. It's not really RRRE fault , you just tried to enjoy and tweak a car that is basically not good enough. People are happy not because the new car is good but just to encourage Sector 3 to continue. At the end of the day only few will buy it. There was 6 Formula 2022 cars that have been released in the sim racing scene this year vanilla and mods included and imho this car is not even in the top 4. Also other than long teasing it has a terrible livery design. More they teased it less I wanted to buy it even if i've already spent almost 100$ to buy F1 cars from the other sim...fortunately we can free test the car so it consolidated my opinion.

No thought police here I can assure you.
One of the most complaints from members is discussions being derailed, it's particularly prevalent in the AMS2 and rF2 threads where tit for tat posts soon mount up and those seeking information find it's getting lost so we're attempting to keep more control over it.
I don't see any reason why R3E should be treated any differently.
Members are entirely free to start their own threads in the game's forum if they wish.
You may try to make a post untitled ''what makes sim racing community angry'' to get the answer and may be help sim studios to improve their strategy in the future. What I can say is AMS2,RF2 and RRRE are among the sim that have devs that don't really listen to players unless they are forced to do so. Yes they may update often but for their ''own'' interest especially RF2 and RRRE. They mainly update the sim to receive commissioned esport contest or new DLC. Sim racing community first ask feature gently and patiently but if it takes too long the concerned studios must be prepared to receive a storm of critics and bashing. Once the request fulfilled everything stop...

''what makes sim racing community angry''
When people don't get what they want. May it be from a game's development, reactions from the community, whatever.

It's the same in any (gaming) community, some are better, some are worse than ours. It's just human nature, and human nature is to be emotional.

Nice I could try this f1 car out but not purchase it ------- RaceRoom f1 cars are pretty poor looking and feel terrible on track , unlike the tintop cars they do are so nice to drive ------ such a disappointing release.
But the rest of there content is class

After having tried the X22 for free and enjoyed it on Portimao I was happy to purchase it. Not sure where all the remarks about spinning out come from but I found the driving experience fast and exciting with good feel from the car. Had to adjust the brake pressure back to 96% due to excessive locking but with that and a bias change I was able to control it wonderfully. You do need to be careful with the throttle and very progressive (gentle) coming out of tight turns but I expect that is normal for this type of car. I increased the ffb multiplier a bit to give it a little more feel and keep from over steering also.
Took it on to Spa and was able to turn 1.49 with only a little practice and it seemed to be on par with all the other F1 cars I use in AC and AMS. Helps to have good pedals but that is true of all the cars and games.

BTW, I am fine with the graphics and really enjoy the game. But then I don't do videos or pics so driving is my main joy. I have always enjoyed racing in R3E and it has really improved over the last year. It does take a while to get the settings right for Wheel and Graphics but worth it.

Using Triple screens and Oculus Rift S , Fanatec DD2, Heusinkveld Pedals.

To be fair, Keith, you tried it this morning, after yesterday's little update. The car until yesterday suffered from some anti-lag setting issue that made it very tricky coming out of slow corners.

Now it's a lot better. Have a look at the changelog there:

Since the patch it's better but I always have the impression at low speed being on a ice rink, on 1 axis without weight in the wheel and after the wheel is straight limit drifting until the 3rd gear. This phenomen is very marked on Sepang GP T2.

Finally had time to sit down with the car and this thing is a rocket! While making slow turns, it does feel as if there is no grip, so you cannot lean on it like you can with the X17 or the FR90 cars. I'm still getting use to the car though... Well as use to the car as I can.

What I don't like... It sounds awful, correct but awful. The V6 just drones on, and on. I'm not expecting the car to sound as good as the X17 or the FR90 cars. But damn it sounds worse than the Formula Jr. it sounds good when you aren't in the cockpit (or riding the halo), but in the car it's just a sad sound. But that is the current state of things.

Other than that, it's an alright addition.

Now what's all this business about trucks? Will these be Stock Car trucks?

No. It will be similar to the ETRC. There was a business partner that asked us to produce such a racing truck and we will be releasing it when we are ready.
For now it's been used at an on-site event in Germany with WIP physics.
That event was the reason it's included in the game folders.

For the final release, we are currently polishing the physics with the help of our SME - Sascha Lenz and his engineer. Sascha drives in ETRC and is very excited to finally get a simulator featuring his discipline with realistic physics.

So don't expect crazy trucks with huge wheels :)

I agree these modern Formula 1 sound really bad, sadly the era when Formula 1 sounded great is definitely a thing from the past. So, obviously, the FRx22 doesn't sound nice either.... although I could give it a V10 or V12 sound :p

I like FFB of the X-22, but It’s more difficult to drive than I expected. Certainly more difficult than the Mercedes in iRacing (F1 from 2021), which is supposed to be quite realistic. In X-22 it’s easy to lockup wheels badly and you have to be very careful while accelerating at slow speeds. It takes some time to get used to , but it’s rewarding to drive.

The sound is great and turbo lag is a feature of these hybrid engines. For me it's the best sound I've heard in the sims. Maybe we don't hear the electric motor enough but otherwise it's all good

Those cars have no Turbo lag, the ERS system keeps the turbo spooled. There are rumors tho that Turbo lag may make a comeback in the 2026 engine regulations
