RaceRoom Releases FR X-22, Teases Trucks

After months of wait and weeks of drip marketing, the time has finally come for RaceRoom to release the FR X-22. The new Formula 1-inspired vehicle comes ready to drive with tons of liveries. Release is 31st of August, 2022.

The wait is finally over. KW Studios released their newest Formula 1-inspired vehicle on the 31st of August, 2022.

The new open wheeler comes with a few brand new additions to RaceRoom:
  • Hybrid Engine
  • MGU-K Modes
  • Overtake Mode
  • HALO Visibility Switch
  • New Bindings and Car Setup Menu Items
What's more is with this update, another vehicle has been added to the game, though not yet officially released. Something called a "RaceRoom Truck" has been spotted in the updated files. We have yet to see the exact details of this new vehicle, however a sneak peak in DDF Racers video deliveres some answers.

Here's the full changelog:

Update details:
Download size = 3.9 GB
Client version = 0.9.4.2
Client BuildID = 9421882
Dedi version = 86.0.1385
Dedi BuildID = 9421904
  • New Content - Formula RaceRoom X-22
  • Added support for hybrid engines, MGU-K modes switches, Overtake mode, HALO visibility setting, new bindings and car setup menu elements, all featured in the Formula RaceRoom X-22

If people cared about the content being released, maybe they'd talk about it more.
They obviously care enough to post regularly about outdated engine/graphics etc.
Anyone who is interested in R3E is probably aware of it's perceived limitations, but may actually want details about the update without having to wade through numerous unrelated posts.
As I've pointed out before in relation to other game threads, start a thread about your complaints and those who agree can join in that.
Then threads might remain more on topic.

A great addition that reminds me the 2020 DTMs. Fun to drive but really hard to master. They add hybrid management and the cockpit view is rather clean. Good job S3

The average attention span for human beings has gone down to roughly 8 seconds ever since social media became a prevalent aspect of our society. If you open an article about something you might be interested into (the game), but which predominantly features something you might not really care for (the new cars being added), your brain goes "oh here we go again" and quickly shifts its attention to something else.

Is it annoying? Perhaps.
But if the problems of this game relate to the graphics and the fact they're still relying on outdated technology and nothing is being done about it, it is understandable that people would be frustrated and perceive that their concerns are not being addressed and going unanswered, and voice said frustration anywhere they can.

Queue the "rF2 has abysmal UI, please change it" saga every single time an rF2 article comes out, or any similar argument.

This is a textbook example of content fatigue. Just as all games having GT3 cars to race with, just as all games having Spa and the Nordschleife to race on, and so on and so forth.
Nobody cares.
Yeah, nobody cares about GT3 cars! Well, nobody apart from those driving GT3 cars which is pretty much everyone which is why every game features these cars.

No its not "Understandable that they are frustrated". The game is what it is . They have their forum and discord, and there is a thing called user reviews on steam, if these frustrated people feel the need to be "emotional" everytime this or any other game is mentioned.

Polluting every news article with the same crap is not productive, and it drives people away from this forum.

I am very glad Kenny and the mods are doing something about this, because the lack of comments and productive discussion has been noticeable more and more, due to this crap. I was also interested to know how this car drives, and the last thing i want to do is wade through dozens of posts that say the same thing from individuals that think that complaining enough will change anything.

The only thing "socialmedia" did for society is create the notion that just because you have something to say, other people have to hear it. They don't.

If I want a sociology discussion I tend not to go to a sim racing site for it.
Now I'm asking politely to get back on topic.
Just as nobody cares about eSports discussions (on this site and elsewhere), it is evident a lot of people aren't interested in discussing what you want them to discuss. But if you want to control the narrative, you're more than entitled to silence people by locking threads and banning users.

But, given you want to get back on topic, as always in the simracing niche not many people play these games and even less so are interested in talking about it.
For instance, a day after release the release article has failed to generate more than 150 engagements, and the game as a whole, is struggling to even get 500 concurrent players. Barely an hour after the release of the car, it dropped off a cliff again.
If nobody is playing the game, the only few people left and willing to talk about it are naysayers and detractors. Those that like the game, are busy playing it, not writing on forums. And those that don't, are instead here and elsewhere talking about anything but the topic at hand. So, who do you expect to "get back on topic", exactly?

And for the record, I'm not here to educate you, but having a red nametag on your profile doesn't excuse you from being rude to people politely telling you why this phenomenon is happening and why you won't get rid of it. The same rules you want us to respect also apply to you, if anything you should be one giving the example.

I'm not going to entertain you any further.
Have a pleasant day.

RR, as always, is too late to the party trying to stay relevant in the market, by providing their own variant of exactly the same car that has been available for months on other platforms.

In no particular order, we already have:
-An entire official game
-A DLC in AMS2
-At least 2 mods for rF2
-At least 5 mods for AC
-At least 1 mod each for older games like rF1, GTR2, GP4 and F1C
Granted, especially with mods your mileage might vary.

It's important to have options and alternatives, so that the public can choose, but at the same time, it's literally nothing we haven't already seen before elsewhere, thus there really isn't something to talk about.

This is a textbook example of content fatigue. Just as all games having GT3 cars to race with, just as all games having Spa and the Nordschleife to race on, and so on and so forth.
Nobody cares.

Just a quick point of clarification AMS2 F1 22 version is free with the base game. No paid DLC required.

As a customer, I like the message boards for a variety of reasons. Yes, 50% of the comments are trolls, redundant, or just crap. But then there's a 1/4 that are genuinely funny, and another 1/4 where someone says either something insightful, or something that you've felt and never said. And there's a connection. That's what makes a community. Go outside and you'll likely hear some horrible things said by people or see people get horribly mistreated. Its hard to make a connection in the real world, and if you can make that connection here, even if its only 1 out of any 5 posts, that's pretty good.

As for the content, the game changer now is skins. AMS2 allows "modding" and we'll likely have a great AI pack soon. Whereas RR will be saddled with fake skins. I have yet to drive either, but I can't imagine that they'll be so far apart that the deciding factor would be the immersion provided by the real opponents and liveries. (And potential to race on historic circuits!)

Exactly, the fact that they bother to post anything means that they care, at least a bit. I've seen articles about e-sports in the past without a single comment, or only saying how it's not interesting because there's no connection. You want comments, you get comments :D

I'm also here and not on most developers' forums. Complaining over there doesn't help much neither, and in the past got me banned nearly, for example by my good friend Ian Bell, even though I actually was constructive which in their case I thought they actually wanted, but hey..

At least there's some activity in these comment sections, and people get to make some jokes. Would be a bit of a scary place if everything always has to be on the exact topic of the news article. At least they are actually talking about RaceRoom, and not saying "yeah but Gran Turismo/Forza has more cars, so is better".

For every comment, a few more clicks, a bit more advertising income. I wouldn't think RD would have massive issues with this unless it really becomes an insulting place.

Now I've only played RaceRoom for a few hours, it was a pain in the ass to set up, and at least I still know the graphics are still balls :D

But Assetto Corsa has better physics and FFB, so is better.

:D

Good addition to the game, really takes a lot to keep it on the track while also trying to set an respectful lap time. Only real complaint isn't so much with the car itself but with the AI, I hope they tweak it a bit so they don't race as if it were touring cars :p

As far as graphics/engine debate goes, I think a lot of RaceDepartment readers including myself would be interested in reading an article dedicated to this topic, maybe listing the graphical changes done to the game engine over the years and hopefully an interview with one of the developers on what their plans are for the future. One can hope :)

As regards low numbers of racers, RR is probably my favourite but as it's still summer I've been out in the real world Motorcycling with my free time. By December I'll be on it all the time. Probably plenty of others who are a bit casual with the racing.
