Automobilista 2: Wet Line Confirmed, v1.5 Available (Updated)

UPDATE: v1.5 is now officially available!

Reiza Studios has always been open with letting the community know what is going on in the development of Automobilista 2. With the v1.5 update imminent, lead developer Renato Simioni shared a deep dive into physics development - and also confirmed the addition of improved wet weather track surface behavior.

RaceDepartment had already speculated in May that wet lines might be added to Automobilista 2 soon - the physics deep dive confirmed this, among other racing surface changes. Not only is the rubbered-in racing line going to be much more slippery in the rain come v1.5, but the addition of Rallycross and dirt surfaces will also change track evolution - laying down dirt onto tarmac surfaces will affect grip, but the parameters for this are still being refined, so the effect might not be perfect yet.

Behind the Physics Scenes

Simioni also leans into the technical aspects of the physics and tire remodeling that mark a big step forward for v1.5. If you have ever wondered just how a studio transfers elements like suspension geometry, the chassis and body of a car, and tire deformation and interaction with the surface to a digital recreation of a racing car, this update is perfect for you.

Should the theoretical parts behind things like tire slip or the flex of a tire's carcass not be your cup of tea, the update still holds exciting news: For one, the second part of the June Dev Update - which was later renamed to July Dev Update - looks like it will be released after v1.5 has launched. Simioni mentioning the update being "just around the corner" turned into the update being available just hours later - for more info on the work that went into it, check out our recent in-depth interview with the Reiza founder!

You can find the full physics update in the Reiza forums. All cars that are already in AMS2 are going to profit from the v1.5 revisions to varying degrees. They will be joined by Rallycross cars and tracks, as well as the new Formula Dirt and Crosskart vehicles.

Wet racing lines ? Many hype wow

I don't think it will happen. Because rain in the first place to work neatly requires very accurate and fundamentally correct tire physics. And as exciting as full rain simulation would be, it will never happen, because it will never be welcomed in the first place.

Mod edit: Removed unnecessary sexism.

if u just say something that is not "game changer" !!!.. take care, they will insult u
so yesterday i did a race with F1 gen4 model 1 with much rain, Ai started with slick me with wet, when they started after less than half lap they all disappeared, too much fast
but i keep silent, i know how is working here
By reporting real facts you won't be insulted (I haven't read such things there, harsh anwsers to trolls, for sure, that's something else). It is interesting what you are stating as I asked whether the AI had been adapted to the new wet mechanics, nothing being stated about this in the devblog (if I haven't missed something). With all that have been implemented in terms of physics and content in this update in such a short time, it would not be surprising at all that the AI will be updated in next updates though. It will become a concern if nothing is announced about the AI in the future.

By the way, "game changer" never meant everything in the game would be fixed... This update is before all about adjusting values incompatible between 2 models of the game (Im' simplifying but I don't believe the ME "bug" statement from Reiza, it was just bad implementation of a model from what I understand, mistakes just happen sometimes) and review the physics for all cars, which is a tremendous work in itself. If another aspect of the game is not ok, it doesn't mean the game did not have heavily changed, it's a strange way to see things.

Just in case i will earn critics right away - i did only fast overview the comments.

For me racing in the rain against AI ever was, still is and maybe ever will be a unbalanced mess. In EVERY sim.
Never really enjoyed it. It only looks good but i am avoiding racing in the rain for the reasons above.

I really liked (and miss) the earlier AC CSP versions where rain was there (for visual reasons) but had no physicall impact on the player or the AI.

Time to try AMS 2 once again I suppose. Any recommendations for a car to try after 1.5 for someone who disliked AMS 2 physics in the past?

Managed to drive a large number of cars last night and this update is fantastic, its a real game changer imo.

The stand out cars for me are the 1998 McLaren, the GT1s and the Sprint Car, although all the cars are now driving really well, those are my stand out ones.

The handling is now extremely predictable and the ffb is superb. The driving feels very informative and alive, something i also get from rF2.

Comments from the usual Mr WOT, Stepy and their ilk about the "engine" are now looking and sounding very silly & like they have a bug to bear IMO, the work Reiza have put it to fine tuning and re-coding the ME are paying dividends and in some instances i think its now best in class to drive.

I hope they ad some point to points for the rally, that would be awesome.

Keep up the fantastic work Reiza, you're doing an amazing job!
Honestly if you take ACC as a benchmark for physics realism you are on the wrong path. Some of the things that happen there are pretty blatantly out of the real world physics for anyone who knows about vehicle dynamics. Anyway, to each his own and his own opinion :D

Yes, I did and I feel my comment was a bit harsh. I just really want it to be right. I'm quite emotional about it and want them to be successful.
Mate! Seriously, try the new build, you don't even need RC build as its officially released! Im sure its gunna put your mind at ease, honestly EVERY car I've tried so far feels great! Its really stepped up! Just to give you the best possible experience, this is a list of cars that have the new physics, but have not yet recieved FFB updates:

FFB still to do..
  • P2-4
  • Formula Trainer + Advanced
  • Lancer Cup
  • TSI Cup
  • Street Camaro SS
  • Omega Stock Car 1999
  • Copa Montana
  • SprintRace
  • Copa Classic FL & B
  • HotCars
  • Copa Fusca
  • Copa Uno
  • Copa Truck
  • Vintage Touring Car
Also, non of the Karts (Not Carts) have new physics yet. So try anything thing else for the fully updated experience! Having said that, even the cars above on the list feel better with the new physics, despite not having the new FFB. Anyways, sure you're gunna be happy with the improvements! Hope you enjoy!

I did a couple of laps yesterday and 2 20 minute races against the ai. First was a group a on the old hockenheim which was an awesome experience going 3 wide on the straights. And a crosscart race on Ascurra or what it's called which was an really fun experience even if the Ai was pretty pretty bad. I also drove the gt classics corvette around old spa which was a great drive in practice with a full grid. And there i managed to get a hilarious pile up in a corner where i spun and the whole field kept crashing into us and i saw like 5 or 6 corvettes stuck under each other in a pile of porsches. And every couple of minutes there came another victim to the party.

For me the update feels really really good, i have to try all the other cars in a race on different tracks to see how the experience will be.

Now i am eagerly awaiting more historic content! :) Thank you Reiza!

Reiza Studios. It's in the game :inlove:

Probably the best simracing studio of this decade.
We will say one of the best, first I would put Kunos for Assetto Corsa, not for ACC. Obviously the mods do a lot for AC but the physics are fantastic I think.
Excluding mods I agree in part, if you play in VR AMS2 is the best simulation available at the moment.

Yeah I was thinking the same. This guy has lost all relevance years ago. I guess he is going for AMS2 haters as his target demographics nowadays.
It's pretty much the plot of what has become a comedy by now. Clickbait title, AMS2 users taking the bait and finally he trashes the sim so as to cause the max drama in the stream and unleash the mob of AC toxic fans. Easy enough to take a look at his discord to understand. Zero relevance really by now

Yep he’s not doing it for any other reason than to generate traffic . Stopped watching anything from him some time ago.

ACC just feels too different for me to compare tbh, I don't hate the FFB in it at all, it just drives so differently I have to exclude it.
Thank you for this honest comment. This is a thread about a new development in AMS2, new development, which, again, brings a new and improved FFB/physic to this title.
I have been, and still am, puzzled, when reading, since the inception of AMS2, that any one feel that AMS2 FFB/Physic is excellent, because to me it is average (at best).
As it improve over time? maybe. As it changed over time? yes, but, to me the core is still strange.
Their is a lot to like about AMS2, Reiza dedication to add and improve it on every aspect is commendable. Depending on what is important for a player, I can see how AMS2 can be a favorite, but trying to convince oneself that AMS2 has the best FFB and Physic, is a constant source of perplexity.
So to circle back to your comment, we agree on one aspect, ACC is on completely different level when evaluating FFB and physic. :)
