Automobilista 2: Wet Line Confirmed, v1.5 Available (Updated)

UPDATE: v1.5 is now officially available!

Reiza Studios has always been open with letting the community know what is going on in the development of Automobilista 2. With the v1.5 update imminent, lead developer Renato Simioni shared a deep dive into physics development - and also confirmed the addition of improved wet weather track surface behavior.

RaceDepartment had already speculated in May that wet lines might be added to Automobilista 2 soon - the physics deep dive confirmed this, among other racing surface changes. Not only is the rubbered-in racing line going to be much more slippery in the rain come v1.5, but the addition of Rallycross and dirt surfaces will also change track evolution - laying down dirt onto tarmac surfaces will affect grip, but the parameters for this are still being refined, so the effect might not be perfect yet.

Behind the Physics Scenes

Simioni also leans into the technical aspects of the physics and tire remodeling that mark a big step forward for v1.5. If you have ever wondered just how a studio transfers elements like suspension geometry, the chassis and body of a car, and tire deformation and interaction with the surface to a digital recreation of a racing car, this update is perfect for you.

Should the theoretical parts behind things like tire slip or the flex of a tire's carcass not be your cup of tea, the update still holds exciting news: For one, the second part of the June Dev Update - which was later renamed to July Dev Update - looks like it will be released after v1.5 has launched. Simioni mentioning the update being "just around the corner" turned into the update being available just hours later - for more info on the work that went into it, check out our recent in-depth interview with the Reiza founder!

You can find the full physics update in the Reiza forums. All cars that are already in AMS2 are going to profit from the v1.5 revisions to varying degrees. They will be joined by Rallycross cars and tracks, as well as the new Formula Dirt and Crosskart vehicles.

It is a refreshing and interesting to read about some of Reiza's key members, especially 2 being initially users, like us. It makes more obvious that Reiza has been listening to users and constructive criticism.
Im not a genius like Tom and Otso, but I too was a user that got absorbed into Reiza. I expect there are quite a few of us now.

Well the 1.5 update for sure is an improvment. That floaty feeling is pretty much gone and its much more direct and less jiggly.

I still don't understand why you can pretty much drift any car at almost any speed without losing grip. At low speeds you can for sure lose grip because the tyre spins but at medium/high? No matter what car you drive the downforce seems incredible and you never lose the rear. Why is that.

Regardless I had a lot of fun, im so happy to have AC and AMS2 to mix up!
Might be worth checking the assists bit on your setup, it's a bit funky. I do wonder if some of the people who seem to feel this way have the game setup wrong somehow, as I'm still able to crash quite easily:)

So I went to Wendys Fast food restaurant and tried their hamburger and it’s just fundamentally wrong compared to McDonalds or Burger King. How can you have a square hamburger on a round bun? And the taste was just awful, my tastebuds were applaud and I nearly vomited several times but I kept going and as I dove deeper into this square hamburger I found the beef to bun ratio is waaaay off, it’s like it’s still in beta/early access and it didn’t have any mustard on it! WTF!!! Maybe Wendys will update it yet again but they are probably too busy working on a new salad. Sorry to the fanboys of Wendys but I’m right and you’re wrong!!!

Edit: Sorry, I think I posted in the wrong forum

Forgot to add, McDonald's and BK meat is real meat because it's round, so you will now throw away all your Wendy's gift cards and tell all your friends and family to never go there again!! Because it sucks and you don't like it!!!!

From my limited experience, Automoblista 2 handles very well. I wish Iracing had the same physics. The force feedback is top quality. Multiplayer seems to be shunted aside though, too many issues. A fantastic offline racing sim experience.

Seems like the AMS2 community is pretty thin skinned if that level of ad hominem is the response if people don't praise the game :D

But it's understandable.

For years you have tried to convice everyone that AMS2 is the best "sim" nobody plays (i wonder why?), with genre trumping physics.

Only for the devs to backstab you and basically admit that physics have been bugged since release. I guess that took it's toll.

And even after this fix, three years after release mind you, the game still just drives ok.

But there is always a chance for another "game changing" update.
I fully agree. I think it was at parody levels. People were/are better off in rf2 or AC1 for more pristine driving. So many clowns in denial.

People would have to do a custom file, tighten the center, exact right ffb settings for some cars in the past but mostly I use default+ and custom only sometimes.

I like the title now at this patch its a good ground level

Putting cars like Mclaren f1 car 5b iirc into the best camera position and even the default setup at perhaps oulton is a great experience, going camera at 74 in the cockpit, then sitting low in that car is pure bliss with the default+ setup

cart 23, and gen 2s 1s, its all real nice, P1 gen 2, and metalmoro's, many good cars now heaps more, still a WIP though/too depending on how you view the glass half full empty situation.

83 gain, 30 lfb, 40fx 0 dampen is the custom and default+ I pretty much use for most cars, though my custom file does not really tighten with downforce right now. With the kuku version of the custom file they have and center tightening values put in as on their page thats

camera at 76, low in the seat and 10 back, for f1's this game has such good scale. I like that POV as it makes driving easier though its close, I am not a fan of moving cameras too far back.

Many good cars now and increasingly can use the game as developers intended. got hundreds of hours in the title its prob going to get more over the course of time.

Objectively, there IS better hamburgers than others, as is for racing simulators and everything else.

Absolutely.

At least if you think that being crashed into from the side and from the rear simultaneously by two ai drivers, that try to agressively overtake you in the pit entry lane during cooldown lap, is authentic and immersive, this is your game.

I'm sure this kind of things is exactly what make or break the success of a title

Never claimed it would?

But the ai in AMS2 does a lot of stupid things that would be acceptable in a title that is still in early access. Like running over sausage kerbs and crashlanding on the roof.

Which makes it a bit hard to see why people praise this mediocre ai.

You have never seen RF2 cars rolling due to too much grip? Really early release stuff you know.
I would be more concerned about AI behaving well while racing rather than hitting you during the cooldown lap..
Some combos indeed have issues with AI in AMS2. No one denies that. Some combos are the best AI races you can have in the market though. Definitely still a bit rough on the edges generally.

AI is something really hard to judge with such sims, when it is performing differently in different tracks and under different conditions, when there's a slider for the agressivity... the AI may act like a total blind road killer if it is too strong for a player ; we all know what a slow car on the track is absolutely dangerous (and deadly IRL). Racing sims should have a consistent AI on all tracks and a test for the player (a hotlap with half fuel in the car for example, or with different fuel levels) to tell him which AI level he should use to maximise his experience. Consistent AI is the key before all...
