Automobilista 2: Catalunya & Formula USA 2023 Now Available

Just in time for the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya arrives in Automobilista 2 as part of the v1.4.8 update, which is now available as a release candiate. The update also lets sim racers try the new v1.5 physics that Reiza Studios has been working on - although only on part of the vehicle roster for the time being.

First confirmed in early May, Catalunya marks the final circuit for the Premium Track Pack and features both the layout that uses the tight chicanes in the final sector as well as the faster version with two flowing right-hand corners, as F1 returned to for 2023. Fans of the World Championship can enjoy the track just in time for the real event.

New content also includes the Formula Junior, a low-powered vintage single seater to serve as a tamer introduction to classic open wheel racing than the Formula Vintage and Formula Retro cars in AMS2. On top of that, Reiza's interpretation of a modern IndyCar makes its way into the sim as the Formula USA 2023, although it does not quite look like the real vehicle for copyright reasons - Reiza had discussed the addition of an official Dallara IR-18 with the IndyCar series, other license agreements meant that it could not be done, however.

Meanwhile, the core of the update are the reworked physics. Version 1.5 promises to remedy problems caused by old tire physics interfering with the newer system in place, and while the next big jump in versions is still roughly a month away according to lead developer Renato Simioni's forum post on the release candidate, select cars already use the new physics. A full list can be found below.

AMS2 - Cars Using v1.5 Physics in v1.4.8 Release Candidate

  • Formula Retro Gen1 (all models)
  • Formula Retro Gen2 (all models)
  • Formula Retro Gen3 (all models)
  • Formula Classic Gen1 (all models)
  • Formula Classic Gen2 (all models)
  • Formula Classic Gen3 (all models)
  • Formula Classic Gen4 (all models)
  • Formula Inter
  • Formula USA 2023
  • Formula Ultimate Gen2
  • Formula Junior
  • P1 (all models)
The older Formula USA CART/IndyCars are only making partial use of the system and "should be ignored until complete", as per Simioni. The other cars require setup resets, either by resetting them to default in the setup screen or by deleting the setups folder in the Documents\Automobilista 2\savegame\123456789\automobilista 2\vehiclesetups folder. This also deletes all other setups that still work for the time being, but they will require a reset when v1.5 is rolled out at the latest anyway.

I realized after, it was the formula junior he was driving and updated my post.
Not sure where you are getting such a video on them saying they drift like rally cars, anyway here is a properly done review for your info.

And yes skippies, trainers and junior actually are a bit drifty by nature as they are so called momentum cars

Ya, I've watched that...all good, as Mike said it's an improvement and I agree, from my short testing it seems to have fixed my biggest issue while cornering so far.
I'm not a big open wheeler fan, so I'm hoping it carries over to the tin tops when updated, especially the Stock cars as they are what have attracted me to Reiza titles over the yrs....all the other stuff is just bonus content for me :)

Regarding the video I watched....I said he was drifting like a rally car, hence why I asked if that was realistic ?
Which you answered....thank you

Vladimir Korchnoy asked why its suggested to use FFB default+

because currently its suggested as default profile to use in the beta group.
Why?
Because Renato said so :)

I think driftyness is only an issue if its the fastest way to get around the track in a context where it shouldn’t be or you‘re not penalised for the wear on the tyres.

As has been pointed out some types of cars are just optimised to work with a slightly looser setup. Others should only work well when they are very planted/pointy.

At the end of the day you can drift almost anything it”s only an issue if that makes a car faster when it shouldn't”t be.

+1 on this.

It's the update for the end of June/beginning of July. But I don't believe it could be of interest for someone who is trolling on AMS2 at every post. Would it?
nice, part 1 june and part 3 next year.
I still have project cars 2 for rallycross, it's still awesome.

For me AMS2 is like any other arcade game. Even PC2 or AMS1 feels better. IMO RF2, Iracing and ACC, in this order, are far away from the others
Definitely a troll. Back under your bridge! Unless something is up with your settings. I have been playing RF2 solidly for months since last November, but AMS2 with this RC is keeping me off it, its really great and doesn't deserve the lazy arcade label people throw at it.

Where did the Formula USA go? I opted in the release candidate on steam last week and found it, now the game updated and can't find the car anymore, even putting back on the RC option on steam. Any help?

Its part of the USA DLC. So if you don't have that, they won't be available.

They were free for everyone when the RC was the latest available version but it would seem they close that loophole with the official release.

Aaah so it's part of Racing Usa Pack Pt3! I didn't catch it cause it's say it's a dlc release in 2022 and I don't see the car quoted in the description

It was originally canceled then Reiza released it again after conversations with IMS did not lead to an official license for the IR-18
