F1 2016 Modding Questions Thread

Hey guys, new to this forum, is there any mods floating around for F1 2016 that allow you to move drivers to other teams? I want to do a Red Bull career mode but don't want to lose Max or Daniel from the driver's lineup. Thanks.
How to change names:

To change helmets you have to use an editing software e.g. photoshop. Renaming the helmet doesn't work.
Right now it isn't possible to change countries (if anyone could decode that .dat file that would be great)

I messed up with the "incardriver.erp" file and forgot to make a backup, could someone please upload the one from version 1.6.0 for me? I'd like to avoid to check cache with Steam, as it would remove all of my mods.

(The file is located in F1 2016/asset_groups/animation_package/scenes/incardriver/2016)

Do you have the first helmet with red, green, blue?
Or what is the color of your helmet? And which one do you use?
I use the Helmet Nr.10, i actually made it work, as i found out i made a mistake at saving... (I feel a bit stupid about it)...

One small problem i have now... when i go into the game my helmet has the default colours (in my case Blue and Black), and even the Logos i added have these Colours? Does someone have a similar problem? :)

Ah yea i see the problem... Too bad :/
A Thing i dont understand, why isn`t it possible to get the normal Colours on the Logos? I mean i can understand it for the rest of the helmet since you can change it at the beginning of the carrer... Too bad Codies wont let us do that, but i guess they want to be sure that PC players dont have a advantage over console players...

Unlike liveries, helmets don't have a decal file so the game assumes that anything on the helmet is colour related.

The Noesis problem I can explain:
The plugin just states the vanilla texture sizes (in bytes) and then sets the size of the image to be displayed on photoshop/gimp.
When you edit a helmet, the texture size changes and the plugin doesn't know what to do.

Using EEA is the easiest option so when you have photoshop back try it again.

Ok so I got it to work and I've got my custom helmet in-game using photoshop and EEA.

I just have the issue of the new design not being visible at distance, and I can't work out how to fix it despite reading through posts here. I just don't understand

Any pro tips?

I assume you've read this but in case you haven't read this http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/f1-2016-modding-questions-thread.124753/page-5#post-2296103.
One thing I have noticed is that if in your in the texture menu of EEA v4 and viewing a helmet in incardriver.erp it only shows the large (close up, non pixelated) texture.
If this happens I would suggest downloading EEA v2 as well and then export the incardriver.erp texture which should be the correct size (small and pixelated)

Whenever I edit the erp file in the wep folder for a team (for example, I'm trying to edit the Williams livery, downloaded one from here and added extra bits to it in photoshop/paint.net and want to use that), in game it literally just shows up with wheels and the driver, no actual car...
Wish they went back to the F1 2014 modding system, that was so much easier.

I have this in the EEA to start off with: http://prntscr.com/ct2zoh
Then I go to Textures > Import, select this file: http://prntscr.com/ct2zem
Then I save it, open the game, try a test with Williams and it looks as I described earlier

Edit: Gif of how the car looks with just wheels and driver, this is in a Sauber, but the Williams is the exact same - https://i.gyazo.com/ddec32a61bd70870293425b7046e0df8.gif

Helmet Modding Guide
A̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶m̶o̶m̶e̶n̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶c̶h̶a̶n̶g̶e̶s̶ ̶o̶n̶l̶y̶ ̶a̶p̶p̶e̶a̶r̶ ̶a̶t̶ ̶c̶l̶o̶s̶e̶ ̶r̶a̶n̶g̶e̶ *http://www.racedepartment.com/threads/f1-2016-modding-questions-thread.124753/page-5#post-2296103 <- We can now edit the helmets so the changes appear at long range*,
For this example, I will be just changing the top of Jenson Button's helmet to red, just to show you that it works

What you need:

1. Installing the Noesis Plugin
  • Once you've downloaded the plugin, move it to Noesis/plugins/python
  • It should now be good to run
2. Exporting the Texture File
  • Navigate to the helmet texture you want to edit. (They are found at Steam/steamapps/common/F12016/character_package/drivers/male) Jenson's Helmet is found here:View attachment 149659 You want to export the helmet_d.tga.mipmaps so in this example, right click jenson_button_d.tga.mipmaps and select export.
  • In the Export menu change the main output type from a tga to DDS and don't change the destination, then click export.
3. Editing the Texture
  • Open the exported texture (e.g. jenson_button_helmet_d.tgaout.dds) in your editing software
  • Once you have edited the texture, save it on your desktop or an easily accessible folderView attachment 149671 There is no need to rename your texture but make sure the DDS save settings are like this.
4. Hex Editing
  • You are going to need to remove the 128 byte dds header that is stored on the file (Don't worry if that didn't make any sense just copy what I do ;))
  • Open your Hex editor (e.g. HxD.exe)
  • Go to file, select open and find the .tgaout.dds you just saved
  • Select and delete the first 128 bytes (Up to and including the row 70)
  • View attachment 149672
  • Then save the file as the original in your drivers textures file in the F1 2016 game and overwrite the original (*MAKE A BACKUP FIRST*)View attachment 149673
4. Test it out In Game
  • Load up f1 2016 and do a quick race as your edited driver, I usually just jump in a one shot qualifying and look at the helmet. http://imgur.com/a/7r5dE

Thanks to users @Grazor, @realitychecked, @fluffydave and @aowzone for their contributions to f12016 modding!
I can't open the champagne file (mipmaps file) what the hell?
It keeps saying TypeError: An integer is required
