We take to the track in a whole bunch of mods that celebrate the wonders of motorsport across various disciplines and eras, using three different racing sims.

I've said it before but it is well worth repeating.. modding is awesome! Thanks to the hard work of an incredibly talented bunch of individuals in the sim racing community, we have a wonderful collection of cars / tracks / liveries and apps to enjoy in a wide variety of sims to enjoy, spanning many different forms of motorsport, past, present and future.

In something of a tribute to these special individuals, we are going to have a look at a little collection of some of these mods - the first of a new series of videos and articles focussed on the world of sim racing modding here at RD...

Super Touring Seasons - Race 07
A brilliant mod for an equally outstanding racing simulation, the AL Super Touring Seasons mod by @AndreasFSC continues to be in receipt of updates and improvements even after all these years, and as such the quality of the mod is arguably on a par with that of any default content within the game.

Focussing on the legendary Super Touring era of the 1990's, this mod contains the full British Touring Car Championship grid from 1997, 98 and 1999, plus the early Super Touring regulation cars of 1993, 94 and 1995. Altogether an exceptional collection of cars, this mod, and sim, still stand up against much more modern content.

1993 McLaren MP4/8 - rF2
Available as a free mod for rFactor 2 from the ASR Formula Modding team, the McLaren MP4/8 was the last McLaren Formula One car of the legendary Ayrton Senna, and arguably one of the most attractive Grand Prix cars of the 1990's.

The mod from ASR is of the highest quality and does much to showcase the skills of this highly talented modding group. From both a graphical and physics standpoint the car is a work of art, and produces a very pleasing experience behind the wheel. Additionally it is worth noting that the McLaren comes in two very different configurations, one of which being the period specific 1993 Ford powered car that Senna, Andretti and Hakkinen used throughout the season, and as an added bonus the late 1993 test car powered by the wonderful sounding Lamborghini V12 has been included in the download.

The Lamborghini version of the car represents a test mule created by McLaren in late 1993 as the British team assessed a potential move to the Italian manufacturer for the 1994 season, a move that eventually came to nothing following an agreement to run Peugeot power for the following year.

An excellent mod for a very entertaining car and season, this is very much a 'must have' for rF2 Formula One fans.

1999 Nissan Primera BTCC - Assetto Corsa
Breathtakingly stunning. That's pretty much the easiest way to explain what I feel about this mod by @Patrik Marek after I first downloaded and tried it for Assetto Corsa back in late 2014, and since then Patrik has continued to bring improvements and updates to the car, finally releasing his most recent update back in July to create what is easily one of the finest representations of a touring car in modern sim racing.

Patrik has chosen the fabulous Super Touring era in which to dedicate his time, building the exceptionally successful Nissan Primera of the 1999 season, creating a mod that full of attention to detail in both the visual and physics departments that appear to perfectly represent this incredible category of car.

Patrik and his team remain hard at work developing further cars from the Super Touring era of racing, with several models well advanced in their development. If you are interested in keeping tabs on the progress so far, be sure to check out the PM3DM Super Touring WIP thread HERE.

I welcome all mods, but the King of the Castle is the annual (now) F1 mod for Assetto Corsa from Race Sim Studio.

Their attention to detail is extraordinary and their F1 car signifies the beginning of the new F1 season.

Hoping fingers crossed for a full BTCC 1998 season for RF2 with all cars and tracks. Toca time's.. And best year in my opinion, super touring... Nice car's and all.
