February 2024 Update:
Please don't read this thread. I know Google will show it, but it's old and filled with partly wrong information from me.
Just use my LUT package instead:

Original post:
Hello everyone,
I know there are a lot of settings and guides online for "the perfect settings" but after I spent about 30 hours searching and trying, I really found MY best settings.
They are a combination of different guides (but with the "GAMMA-option" in use) that I will name right now and first:

Really nice and complete Guide on Assetto Corsa Forum
Reddit Thread where my adventure began (and where I got the Link above)
FFB Deadzone Fix Logitech G27
Guide for LUT Generator (can't recommend it but helped me understanding)

EDIT: I thought the LUT was what gave me my perfect feeling BUT IT WAS THE TYPE=GAMMA, not a LUT so I rewrote that whole Guide:

EDIT2: I found out how to write a LUT yourself so I did it and the result is something similar to the gamma-setting BUT less compressed, smoother middle-transition and therefore BETTER! Here is the link to the post if you don't want to scroll down: LINK

TL: DR Lines:
1. Adjust InGame-settings and Profiler G27_AC_InGame_andProfiler.JPG

2. Open the controls.ini:
you find this ini in: "C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Assetto Corsa\cfg\controls.ini"
set MIN_FF=0.04, CENTER_BOOST_GAIN=1.3, CENTER_BOOST_RANGE=0.001G27_AC_controlsINI_FF.JPG

3.
open the assetto_corsa.ini:
you find this ini in: "%...%\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\assettocorsa\system\cfg\assetto_corsa.ini"
set ENABLE_GYRO=1, DAMPER_MIN_LEVEL=0.0, DAMPER_GAIN=0.7G27_AC_assetto_corsaINI_FF.JPG

4.
open the ff_post_process.ini
you find this ini in: "C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Assetto Corsa\cfg\ff_post_process.ini"
set VERSION=1, TYPE=GAMMA, ENABLED=1, VALUE=0.5, CURVE=%doesn't matter%G27_AC_ff_post_processINI_GAMMA.JPG

5. HAVE FUN

6. additional:

- Logitech Profiler:
- overall: 100
- spring: 0
- damper: 0
- untick center spring, NO combined pedals, 900° rotation, TICK "allow game to adjust settings"

- AC InGame:
- Gain: 50% [depends on your wheel but for my G27 it is 50%. 75-125% InCAR]
- Filter: 0
- Min Force: 4%
- kerb, road, slip: 0
- understeer: untick
- Steering Settings: gamma 1, filter 0, sensivity 0!!

For those who want a detailed guide:

After I read very very much about all seen and all hidden settings in Assetto Corsa, I tried everything out, but one of these things was always bothering me:

1. you have a huge dead zone
2. your wheel oszillates
3. deadzone ok but no smooth transition at center
4. just too much force

The solution for me was the GAMMA-setting in the ff_post_process.ini!
Combined with the dampening-setting, the Gyro-setting, the min_force and the Center_Boost!
Short version of what this settings do:
To get rid of the Deadzone you need to combine the very little center-boost with the min-force. But then you will have a little bump in the middle because they have a "hard cut" at zero-force.
If you enable the GAMMA-setting this hard-cut will be transformed into a curve, just like the FFB-Output from Assetto Corsa will get compressed to a curve where little forces are boosted and the high forces are lowered.
Here are a few pictures of that:

1. Wheelcheck Result:G27_Wheelcheck_Result.JPG
2. How the AC-FFB has to be alternated:G27_AC_Wheelcheck_andHanddrawed.JPG G27_AC_HowFFBWouldAlternated.JPG

3. All these settings combined:G27_AC_FinalCurvePP.JPG

So you get rid of the deadzone but don't get an oscillating wheel! [Plus you feel more details.]

The Settings in detail:
1. controls.ini:G27_AC_controlsINI_FF.JPGG27_AC_WhatDoesCenterBoostPP.JPG
you find this ini in: "C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Assetto Corsa\cfg\controls.ini"

- Filter=0: This should eliminate FFB-spikes but for me it seems like it just kills little details but does not really smoothes out! So let it on 0!

- MIN_FF=0: That means, that the "zero force" is still zero force, theoretically it's THE setting to get rid of the deadzone BUT I experienced, that you need to get up to 17% for the G27 and then don't have a deadzone anymore but case 2.: your wheel oscillates.
If you go down to about 12% you have case 3.: the deadzone is still there, but little. Problem: it doesn't feel nice... 0 Force in the Deadzone and then BAM, FORCE.
My thought about that:
The "MIN FORCE" doesn't have a "Curve" for the lowest force. It just does a hard cut which ends up in my experienced results. (See Picture above: 3. combined)

- CENTER_BOOST_GAIN: In the Guide "FFB Deadzone Fix for Logitech G27 1.2" this setting is used.
Explanation: If you imagine the Wheel, the FFB begins at a little bit right and left from the center-> "deadzone". That is because the force that IS THERE, IN THE CENTER, is too low for your wheel.
This setting BOOSTS the FFB in the RANGE of "CENTER_BOOST_RANGE"

- CENTER_BOOST_RANGE: as mentioned, this is the range of the boost that applies on the FFB FROM THE CENTER. Theoretically you just need to "Boost the deadzone away". But this does not work, I tried EVERYTHING!! (combined with GAMMA this transforms to a "curve"!)

I combined this 3 settings in every possibility but you have always ONE problem: the "center transition" as in "you steer from left to right" gets a BUMP in the middle, because of the boost.
I tried to lower the boost, widen the range, give a little more MIN_FORCE. But nope, you always gets this unrealistic "center-bump". (so you need the GAMMA!)

I have to give the author much credit, it is a really nice setting but it's just not enough for me.

2. assetto_corsa.iniG27_AC_assetto_corsaINI_FF.JPG
you find this ini in: "%...%\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\assettocorsa\system\cfg\assetto_corsa.ini"

- FF_SKIP_STEPS=0: If set to 1, you get half of the FFB-Refresh-Rate. So if you have a decent hardware, go with 0! Some people get an error on servers because their CPU is too weak. Then go with 1. It doesn't make a HUGE difference, but the more FF-Inputs, the better, right? :p

- ENABLE_GYRO=1: Honestly, I don't understand this settings but it smoothens the wheel without taking away important informations!
If you read about that setting: It is for Direct Drive Wheels as the Logitech G27 (not belt drive like Thrustmaster for example) and interprets "the wheel as a Gyro on certain speeds".
If your wheel is a little bit "shaky" overall or oscillates: go with 1!

- DAMPER_MIN_LEVEL=0.0: This means, that the InGame dampening (a few versions ago there was a slider?!) is OFF, when the Engine says the damper to be zero. If you increase this settings, your dampening will ALWAYS BE ON, even if the engine does NOT give the input for it.

- DAMPER_GAIN=1.0: That is simple. If the engine gives the input to dampen the FFB-Signal, it is indeed dampened. For my G27 I like it on 0.7 but if your wheel feels a little "numb" you can lower or even deactivate it. I find my wheel too shaky when on 0.0!
Sidenote: ALWAYS USE THIS SETTINGS FOR DAMPENING, NOT THE LOGITECH PROFILER DAMPENING!!!

3. ff_post_process.iniG27_AC_ff_post_processINI_GAMMA.JPG
you find this ini in: "C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Assetto Corsa\cfg\ff_post_process.ini"

- Version=1: No idea, just leave it!

- TYPE=GAMMA: I don't know how it works exactly but it is THE setting that got me stunning! I drawed a Curve about how it feels for me and it makes sense but honestly: no idea...
Here is the picture:G27_AC_WhatDoesGammaPP.JPG

- VALUE=0.5: Well in one guide the author tells you "it is on 1 at mine, no idea, just leave it" BUT IT IS IMPORTANT!
It determines how strong the FFB gets "compressed". So on 1.0 it does NOTHING, on 0.1 you feel absolutely no details, it's like ultra-power-steering.
For me about 0.5 is the optimum for having details but no deadzone.
THIS IS THE SETTING THAT ELIMINATES MY DEADZONE AND LET IT FEEL REAL!
What is important here: you have to lower the global FFB in order to have "normal forces". The lower the value, the lower your global FFB! If you put VALUE=0.1 and global FFB on 100% you get broken arms for sure... :p

- CURVE=%doesn't matter, not active%": Well this is just the settings to take the correct LUT. BUT: I don't use a LUT and I can't recommend it with the G27. Tried it and it was just awful!
IF you want to activate a LUT you have to change TYPE=LUT (thanks to Ross Garland for giving me that info!)

Conclusion:
I know that was a lot and I know it's not perfect but maybe it will help you with your settings and increase the fun you have with Assetto Corsa.
I switched over from Project Cars but was so mad with my wheel that I thought about buying another one. The Deadzone was so annoying but the graphics, sound and gameplay were better and I really wanted that game to get working!

This is just a wrap up from other people's posts and guides but I didn't find a guide here, where you don't need to login to the Assetto Corsa Forum or even there, where all these settings are packed up so you can just read it down and get your settings.
And most importantly: I nowhere found any mention of this GAMMA-setting in the ff_post_process.ini so alone for that setting I wrote that all down.

I made this post to give all searching souls another thing to try and hope this makes even a few people happy :)

Let me know if it helped you!

Kind Regards,
Rasmus

Finally got it sorted, decided to stick with LUT, took quite a while to get it all correct, looks straight forward, not for a DD wheel though. Still have my doubts about wheel checker, as for gamma apart from continued back and forward testing with loads of variables, especially not being able to quantify each stepped meaning of Gamma.
Finally got wheel checker to give what appears to be reasonable results, decided to go with that.
I would test with wheel checker, looked at results, bugger, left some variables on the wheels programming, eventually took all programming from the wheel except for FFB strength, finally a result that made some sense.
There is a need, for a way of testing the response from a wheel with quantifiable meaning.
To be honest, it is all a bit suck it and see.
I would say, after the placebo effect wore off, i have an improve result, but that is a feeling not a
quantifiable end result.
cheers for your input @RasmusP
I have to say... I really don't thin wheelcheck and the automatic LUT generator are of any use at all.
They are really really cool tools but apart from cheering for the nice coding and engineering behind them I would absolutely never ever recommend!
For my G27, TS-PC and CSW 2.5 the result was just complete bullcrap, honestly.

It's a nice test for the initial deadzone but that's it. And since OSW, Accurforce, TS-PC, Fanatec wheels don't have any deadzone, that's not needed either.

But I'm glad that you've found some results. I'd be interested in what you did in the end so maybe you could share your LUT? :)

i completely agree, it was a matter of what to do, too many unknowns for me, got into all sorts
of difficulties, not so bad in isolation, but started to consume many hours of playing with many variables
without any quantifiable feed back, Invariably with no measurable end result.
You really need a measured input that has some observable meaning, then a response, also with an observable output from the wheel. I was basically just flailing around with no real meaning to any of
it.:(
So when i finally got a good feeling, response from using LUT, just went with it while i had some hair left.

i will send my LUT file tomorrow when i get to my PC, there was a big loop of experimentation
before i finally returned to were i had started with your settings, except LUT had changed.:)
i think if my memory serves me correctly, it is a very linear plot, i think, 25 samples.

as you advised .......

You could however activate the gyro and set the min damper level to 0.2 to get a bit of gyro-dampening at higher speeds.

and......

This really is your lut? And it feels okay?
Since I doubt that you typed all this by hand I guess it really is a copy of your lut...
Ermh, so at 95% ffb output from the game your wheel gets 9.7% ffb. At 100% ffb output from the game your wheel gets 100% ffb.
Meaning you have the first 95% of ffb output squeezed into about 10% of your wheel and then the last 5% are spread across 90% of your wheel.

The result will be that you get a very very low ffb all the time but if you reach the clipping border (above 95% in ac ffb bar), you'll instantly get the maximum of your wheel's power.

I'll throw this into excel tonight and show you how crazy it looks.

I'm sorry to say this so harshly but this really looks so massively wrong

It did not feel too good either. But at least it is ok in comparison to how it was.
I used 540 deg in wheel checker, same as AC.
Just looked at it, does not look like the one I used,
Let me recheck my AC files when I get home to confirm.

something funny going on with the LUT test and my accuforce, those figures are repeatable what ever I do.

redid it all at 900 deg

I really don't think a LUT will give you any better ffb at all. Just delete all lut files. Kill it with fire, lol.

I'm not kidding... You really don't need it with your accuforce. Ac ffb is what it is. Maybe give it 1-2% min force if you want some stronger feel around the center and play with the sliders from the game.
All this wheelcheck and lut generator stuff is very questionable...
It Tests how far your wheel turns for each amount of force input.
Maybe your friction is not linear, maybe the motor behaves differently when you hold against it?
You don't know, they don't know.
But the one who built the accuforce for sure tried to give you a linear force increase.
My g27 felt totally linear when turning slowly into a corner on the track pad. With the lut generator that told me that it's totally not linear and tried to correct it... The result was a very weird ffb when turning in. First nothing, then a lot ffb, then nothing again.
Looks cool to have a linear wheel on paper but honestly this stuff doesn't do it right.

i will stamp on that “bug” called LUT then, i’ll be glad to see the back of it.
Now do i activate “gamma”, setting that to 1, i have always assumed that meant a 1:1
amplification. is everything in this game base on no information and consequently
guessing.

i am in for a replacement of the Accuforce, got a SC2 on order, thought i would lay to
rest all the past confusion with AC settings in readiness for the arrival of SC2.

i did not do myself any favours involving myself with all of this. :O_o:

just for information, used to use sim commander, i found myself spending 90% of my
time constantly fiddling with it, having different settings for tracks, different setting for each
car. in the end i dumped sim commander and went with a single programmed embedded
into the Accuforce.

Guess what, ended up with wheel checker, etc, etc.:roflmao::roflmao:

i am in for a replacement of the Accuforce, got a SC2 on order, thought i would lay to
rest all the past confusion with AC settings in readiness for the arrival of SC2.

i did not do myself any favours involving myself with all of this. :O_o:

just for information, used to use sim commander, i found myself spending 90% of my
time constantly fiddling with it, having different settings for tracks, different setting for each
car. in the end i dumped sim commander and went with a single programmed embedded
into the Accuforce.

Guess what, ended up with wheel checker, etc, etc.:roflmao::roflmao:
The simucube has even more settings to fiddle with so I really doubt that you'd be any happier with it!

Gamma: 1 means nothing is happening. Above 1 means that the lower ffb output will be even lower, the higher ffb output rapidly increasing in strength.
Below 1 means that the lower forces are stronger but then the increase in force won't be as rapid.

I'd say to get a beefier feeling you could test 0.8 and see how you like it.

But really... Just set "enabled=0" and be done with the ff_post_process.ini. You should rather practice or enjoy some cruising into a sunset around LA canyons with the shader patch instead of tweaking your wheel without getting it any better.
If you don't like the accuforce, maybe try a csw 2.5 or a simucube. The fanatec will have less settings but really nice settings and the simucube will have very complicated settings and a lot of it but might give you a different feeling.

Overall I think the accuforce is good and you just don't like AC's ffb that much these days..
BTW, what are you missing? Can you tell me what you think that light be lacking?

That is an interesting question, what am i missing. i really do not have an quantifiable answer i’m afraid.
I remember my days of rfactor2. ACC is very good too. i have never been over excited about AC FFB, probably have hoped to correct it by settings, never got passed the trying stage.

Already had a fanatec csw, first one, liked it very much, rfactor2 days, Accuforce was a big jump over the first fanatec CSW with rfactor2.

The SC2 is all self contained, rather hoping that a setup will be saved to wheel, and a running
pc menus will not be needed. Some of the aspects of its software are especially interesting too.
The extra torque will be welcome, plus wheel speed, i am hoping that the input to wheel and the visual clues will be more in sync. I think that is a very important aspect with a sim.

“ forgive the above, probably a lot of codswallop,”

i really appreciate your input with the above. many thanks.

That was a good joke :p a friend of mine got a sc2 and the software is very much needed! And there are so many settings...
He comes from a t500 and isn't really happy yet. Too strong spikes, no feeling when driving in a straight line and more dampening or friction in the software leads to mushy details...
Some of the aspects of its software are especially interesting too.
Interesting they are... Leading to great results.. They don't!
My friend tested them all and couldn't yet figure out how to achieve what he wants...

You really need more torque? How much does your accuforce have?
My csw 2.5 has 8.5 Nm and I can't hold it at full force!
Wheelspeed... You don't really need a faster spinning wheel, believe me. My csw 2.5 already spins too quickly for good drifting. It spins quicker than any real wheel would and the accuforce and sc2 should be even quicker.

I'm not sure what you dislike currently and if your settings could change it or be at fault. Ac ffb is nice but not really... "awesome" I'd call it.
Rf2, AMS, acc are a lot more alive and inmersive. But a bit rough or spongy, depending on the car.
AC lacks a bit of... "excitement" I'd say.

I use Gamma 1.55 on the brake in AC :)
OMG. Thank you so much for this number :)) The brake pedal now seems correlated to the pedal app red bar. Before, when you using the default, saw that the red column was not loading, even if I pressed the brake. I just realized that, in the last 2 races. Now I made a fast lap on the last track with the same track and setup, and maybe I know the track better after the race, maybe I can drive smoother around that track, but 0.5s faster in the 5th lap isn't just about knowing the track :D

It is not a question, more of an observation, always struggled with this, I will call it lag.
Since year dot, always struggled with turn into the apex.
I am always missing them, sometimes by miles. In the real world it was never the case, ok, occasionally 20 or 30 cm miss.
I do with practice manage a far more consistent approach, but it never feels measured, more guessed.
I have tried many things to try and combat this, FPS, DD wheel, triple monitors, not yet gone down the 3D route.
I am used to in the past learning a new circuit, it would always be instinctively done. in sims I take at least 5 or 6 laps to even get into the better guessing zone.
I obviously do not know if this applies as a general thing or just me, have always assumed that this is were the very quick drivers excel, the ability to convert a visual digital image into a 3D perspective in their minds, or is it just a matter of timing.:O_o:

I did once over clock my Cpu to 500Ghz to try and combat this but the smoke obscured my monitor.

I think this might be a FOV topic? :-?? it might deviate from the topic ahead. don't know

Tried that, one reason i went triple monitor route. you get a much better FOV, with a single monitor
it is always a compromise.:)
Eventually returned to a wide single monitor, no loss of performance. Just as a side statement, i also
use G- sync made the view ahead on the whole, smoother.;).
