The 200,000 Club – 3 Smash Hit Track Mods for Assetto Corsa

There are over 1,000 track downloads for Assetto Corsa hosted on RaceDepartment, but only three have crossed 200,000 downloads.

RaceDepartment is host to an incredible number of mods and downloads, 17,000 of which are for Assetto Corsa. Of those, there are over 1,000 free downloads available in the tracks section. Three of these have been downloaded over 200,000 times.

1) Circuit 24H Lemans 2017 from Tiago Lima

Le Mans, known also as Circuit de la Sarthe, is host to one of the most famous and grueling races in the world. The Le Mans 24H race tests multiple classes of cars over more than 300 laps of the 13.6 kilometer circuit in France.

The 2017 Le Mans mod for Assetto Corsa was originally posted in 2014 by Tiago Lima, but more recent versions were done by jim lloyd and Terra21. There are four layouts included: a night and a day version of both the standard 2017 layout and a second layout with no chicanes on the Mulsanne straight. All versions are extremely well done, and this is a must have track for Assetto Corsa.

2) Donington Park from Brun

Donington Park is among the most popular and well-loved racing circuits in Great Britain. The famous first sector begins with a sharp right-hander, which then leads to a series of fast, downhill corners that rewards smooth lines. There are plenty of opportunities for overtaking here thanks to many high-speed straightaways ending in slow chicanes or hairpin turns.

Brun’s version of Donington Park for Assetto Corsa includes both the standard and the National layouts. The latter caters nicely to lower horsepower cars and allows for awesome wheel-to-wheel racing on a shorter track. The former is the version most of us know, and this mod version stacks up nicely even against its counterparts in ACC and Automobilista 2.

3) LA Canyons from Phoenix77

Among the more common searches relating to Assetto Corsa is “free roam”. And LA Canyons seems the perfect way to satisfy that need in this sim. The track is based on a highway in California, and the free version found here at RaceDepartment includes 42 kilometers of this road, allowing players to either race the long course for time or just enjoy a cruise.

Phoenix77 spent years creating this track, and the consistent quality of the trackside hills and flora is astounding, plus there are countless hidden gems to discover here. Exploring this sprawling and immersive track in your favourite car is a great way to spend a casual afternoon sim racing.

LAC is really cool.

Imo Fonteny, Feldbergring and High Force are also really godd tracks. Theay are not so polished like LAC but this are cool places to hit the gas!

my only gripe with this version of Le Mans 24h is that it's the 2006 track with 2019 textures. which means Tertre Rouge is still very sharp (it was like that only for 2006 with most of the corners as they are)

I agree speaking the modern Le Mans track.
But it would be a shame to be generally categorical about which simracing engine use and shame older sims. Older sims still have their strengths and forces., For instance, currently I'm driving a classic Targa Florio in a track conversion from rFactor to GTR2. This track is still a class above what is available of track mods for more modern sims and the PnG-mod classic cars are not exactly a dissapointment even today.
Yes, I enjoy racing rF2, AMS2, iRacing, R3E, too and like the progress we have experienced here lately, but as much I'm very keen of all the modders bringing the older sim family alive, like GTR2, rFactor, GTL, GPL, Race07 simbin family, and even older sims like F1C99-02, GP2.
And still modders AC brings fantastic car mods and fantastic track mods, fine surpassing quality in rF2. And tools as CM, CSP, SOL, etc. do a lot to make AC still in competition, IMHO.

IMO modders definitely added a lot to AC, content added by modders is insane and so much of great quality stuff which I think is incredible, I also took a little part in AC modding. The modders who started tweaking AC as a game did equally impressive job, and they brought tons of more shine and attention to AC definitely, but I disagree that they uplifted AC fundamentally. For example, I see videos of AC with impressive modded up wet weather, rain stuff, yet driving more like on dry track with slightly dumbed sliding.

And of course people will play what they want, who am I to tell what to do. I just say that this happens. Some simracers has so tied up and religiously believed into certain simulations, that they just gets stuck there forever. And there is difference of still playing an old sim, and REALLY still playing it. I'd agree with that if there was some sort of crisis, and all future sims would simply go all the way to the dumb side and also wash away most of the interesting content - such as classics, and wash away modding which allows us having a dream track like Targa Florio. But it didn't happen yet, but it might happen if every simracer would stop moving to better offer just because getting too much rooted into some particular one. For example, who knows what AC2 will be like. Probably wont allow modding, probably wont have as much interesting cars officially.

Speaking of Targa Florio. rF2 modder Svictor devoted immense effort in uplifting rF2 version in a past year. I would be surprised if it is not the best in simracing too now. As for classics I have spent loads of time in past few years replicating physics of cars from 1967 Lemans, 1954 Lemans and 1958 F1 cars and some more... but I keep it all to myself, because there are just too few guys in rF2 who are actually interested in those cars, S397 took rF2 to direction more like iRacing type of content of modern stuff, classic cars guys are all filtered down in other simulators. But I personally know how good rF2 can do it with those cars, I couldn't imagine it possibly being better anywhere else. It is just outshined by other things in other sims - nicer screenshots and replays, less bugs probably due to less complexity, more or higher quality 3D models, better sounds, more rational UI designs, cheaper prices, better marketing... all that is not as essential as simulation, but makes more shine.

I was looking for a Suzuka yesterday and noticed a laser scanned version for AC from the Reboot team. Anyone tried this? Having just recently been recommended some great car mods by some of you lovely people, including an ACC car rebuilt for AC, I'm quite interested to try this track.

Thank you for thinking to celebrating the 200,000 club, what a positive idea, some game do not even have 200,000 download total for all downloads, in AC we have that for single tracks, maseltov!.

Thank you @Tiago Lima for bringing all those conversations earlier in the game development, iconic tracks like Leman. Your efforts brought me and countless other hours of driving pleasure in AC, we should be eternally grateful for your generosity.

To all the sad people out there, you know who you are, smile, it is a wonderful life.

Agree on that part. But I think it's a dilemma of time.
Before the Covid-19, I concentrated on racing full race series in single sims, primarily, older series like GTR2, rFactor1 and AC. For some years it was either the one or the other and had my own mind battle of what was the best sim and couldn't deside (since it's many factors other than real sim feeling and eye candy that makes it an excellent sim, at least for me).

Then entering this RD Forum suddenly got my engines started on newer sims and restarted my iRacing, R3E and rF2 and got startet on ACC and AMS2 (and even shortly PC2 since I remember all pCars gossip nearly a decade ago) as well as newer rally games. That left me with 1½ years of confusion of impossible decision of what to play. As a pure offline racer I had even half a year online racing in rF2, ACC and iRacing, but with family it was with zero preparation, so now it's just open AC lobbies for me. And then still focussing on which of the sims to race.

If the day had 200 hours I would play all my sim content and 2TB mods on my NAS.

If rF2 had all classic car- and track content, even just a GTR2 PnG mod conversion I would definately look more in the rF2 direction, and even more if more classic content was added to this sim.
But eye candy of a track as Targa Florio is IMO still a personal immersion. Early summer I raced the latest AC and rF1 track mods (the latter of S.Victor's project you mention), but returned to the GTR2 conversion from the rFactor1-mod (which again is a conversion). I by far prefer playing the GTR2 approach on a revisit after longer hibernations since to my immerson the visib 4K single screen).

Buttom line, I like all kind of sims, but my choice of sim is highly dependant of my aim of racing.

Honestly not so fond of Le Mans.
I have yet to drive the rF2 version, but this version has two significant annoyances for me: firstly the incorrect elevation data around Tertre Rouge, making the turn pretty much a blind entry, and secondly the fact that just driving down the (very wide) main straight, you can get track limits violations without even noticing that you are crossing any lines. (Sounds like I need to get around to setting up rF2 some day soon!)
I do love Donington, and have enjoyed the free version of LAC a few times as well (but the shaking issue caused by the large map gets irritating there).

Have to correct that one. The S.Victor's Targa Florio project I must have raced in low graphics. Using ultra graphics this track mod is absolutely blistering. Deserves +1M downloads
And if full GTR2 PnG, rF1 WSC1970, AC Legends and AC Legends GT mod conversions were availabe (and the NSU TTS 1300 maxi, please) in rF2 I think this could be a phenomenal sim ;)

Yeah the reboot Suzuka conversion from ACC is fantastic. So is Bathurst and Misano. By far the best versions as you’d expect.

Just get rF2 for proper LeMans. rF2 at this moment is insanely underrated. And it is an amazing simulation, especially for endurance. Stop trying to live it all inside bubble of Assetto Corsa, it is stagnating whole simracing at this point. Go to rF2 at least for a little bit.

Just to be clear, your answer to simracing "stagnating" (lol?) with people enjoying AC is to lure them over to another sim which is two years ******* older?

Maybe stick to the rF2 forums.

Oh mike whats happening with AMS1 not mentioned between your favourites sims in your comments?
......
sad, bro....ams1 is where all began!

Is this AC forum ?

Age of rF2 is irrelevant, it was too ambitious for a time to begin with. Far more significant is that it is still being developed, while AC is not. Of course community of modders does a lot to AC, but it can only get that far, and essentials did not change.

For Lemans and endurance rF2 is clearly better option, and that sim needs more traction, so I feel zero shame for doing slight luring, as it won't hurt AC anyway with how much it has planted itself into simracing community, with number of players it has, it will probably go so for 10 more years, and possibly will outlive AC2 if it comes out, depending on few things. In my mind that is a stagnation. Not only that physics of AC aren't as advanced, but they just seem to hit the sweet spot of what people likes the most, with no demand and even resistance for changes (1st month early ACC access) it isn't necessary to go further while there is surely a lot of more way to go, this is just another aspect of stagnation. It just simply stands at threshold of how much realism is enough for average simracer, and in my personal opinion that threshold is too low. We can agree to disagree, 2000K hours in AC felt like having it all, 2000K hours in rF2 feels like just beginning. If at least only 10% of current AC players started playing rF2, it would be best for everybody.

Depth and quality of a sim has nothing to do with it's age, especialy if it is still developed. iRacing is even "older" but it has some great features speaking for it. I think what Manta was trying to say is that there is a night and day difference between experiencing Le Mans in other products compared to this AC version. AC is very nice for the free roam stuff, derping around and quick GT3 online racing and Nordschleife Tourist servers but I still have no idea why people would spend their time with endurance racing in AC, especialy at Le Mans. You don't get a better experience out of the box than in rF2 propably for that track and the different car combinations. I also don't get the sense of this topic. It's like reading about how Justin Bieber got the most clicks on YT.

Even if AC isn't my favorite sim, it has a lot of very nice content speaking for itself well worth an article, created by very talented and creative artists. I have no idea how that Le Mans track and La Canyons made it to the headline article when you have the fantastic tracks from Fat-Alfie, Lilksi or stuff like the fantastic Opel Rennbahn by THL.

I'm a big fan of the LA Canyons mod when I'm in the mood for a nice cruise in a vintage Ferrari or Porsche at sunrise or sunset. I live 60 miles from there and it captures the feel of the area perfectly(there is no ramped homelessness or drug use in that area). Now if there were a downtown LA street circuit, yes! I also love AC for Formula 1 racing having found mods for every track in the 2021 season as well as 2021 paint schemes for the RSS Formula Hybrid 2021 on RD.
