Reiza Studios announces Nürburgring Südschleife and Historic Bathurst for AMS 2

AMS 2 announces new historic content.jpg
It's been a while since the last Automobilista 2 update. Last week, Reiza posted an community announcement revealing new content joining the sim this month and there's plenty to get excited about.

Automobilista 2 has gone from strength to strength in recent months thanks to numerous updates bringing fantastic content to the title. With releases such as older, niche race cars and classic layouts of infamous tracks, AMS2 is seemingly becoming the go-to simracing time machine.

That title is sure to stick for at least another update as Reiza Studios announced several enticing additions coming in March. On Friday, the developer took to Steam to post its March development update in which it detailed everything it is planning.

Alongside bug fixes and new features like tweaks to online modes and a wider array of options for custom championships, content provides much of the focus in this dev update.

Back to the Brazilian roots in March

It's no secret that Reiza and by extension, AMS 2 is a Brazilian organisation. The great variety of Brazilian tracks and cars play no role in hiding that fact. But in recent releases, the sim has moved away from its roots as more traditional European and North American tracks have been added.

Formula Inter is the latest Brazilian car to feature in the sim.jpg

That will not be the case when the next update releases in the near future. Reiza has shot back to Brazil for a taste of Formula Inter, a regional single seater series. Providing a first car racing experience for younger drivers exiting karts, this series resembles the likes of Formula 4 and Skip Barber.

Dubbed the MG15, this be-winged racer weighs less than 500kg all while producing nearly 200hp from its 2-litre inline four cylinder engine. Much like the Formula Ford racer set to join iRacing this week, the Formula Inter features a five-speed H pattern shifter for the full driving experience. Small wings should make for plenty of slipstreaming opportunities meaning this car will be perfect for league racing.

More historic venues join Automobilista 2

Automobilista 2 is known for its tracks lost to the past. It is often named the best game for historic content, and developments launching in March won't be bucking the trend. In its March development update, Reiza has said that elements of the coming update have pushed the release off schedule. However, I think we can all agree they are worth the wait.

Bathurst 1983
First up is an old version of Bathurst without the Chase breaking up Conrod straight. Along with the flat-out section going from the end of the mountain section all the way to the final corner, Bathurst in 1983 had a different vibe.

Today the track is lined with walls making it a challenge to race on. But from screenshots provided by Reiza, it seems the 1983 version of the course is more open with the possibility to make mistakes and come out the other side. After all, a small slide across the grass is far better than hitting a concrete barrier at full-speed.

First official representation of the Südschleife
The simracing world is now much accustom to the Nurburgring Nordschleife. However, the circuit's smaller cousin and predecessor to the GP layout isn't quite as famous. This shorter track will join the Nurbrugring DLC alongside a 1971 representation of the venue.

Historic Nurburgring release includes the Sudschleife.jpg

This will be the first time that the shorter Nurburgring layout will feature in a simracing title as official content. Just like Assetto Corsa did with the Nurburgring, could this release set off a wave of Südschleife representations in sim racing?

The Formula Inter MG15 and 1983 version of Bathurst will come with the next update to AMS 2 scheduled for release any day now. The car will reportedly be free with the base game while Bathurst will join as part of the Historic Track Pack Pt1 DLC. The historic version of the Nurburgring including the historic addition of the Südschleife will join the sim later in the month as part of the Nurburgring Pack.

The new (old) Bathurst is great fun to drive and it feels fantastic on the wheel, i love these older tracks, they flow so much better i think that the modern versions.

The new car is really nice to drive, highly recommended.

Cant wait for the new Nords bit, looks like exciting times ahead on AMS2!

On a side note, have really been enjoying Mini Friday's on AMS2, if any really sh1t drivers are interested, join! as i need someone to race against at the back of the grid :)

I also pray that the North, South and GP slopes are connected like the Nordschleife and the GP track are already.
On the other hand I do not know if it is really possible, does the Sudscleife communicate with the norscleife historically? The GP track had to be added after the disappearance of the southern loop?
Well, anyway, it would be wonderful to be able to run on the three tracks continuously.
You can't do this. When the actual GP layout was built, the Südschleife had to be destroyed, because both partially share the same area. The connection point between Südschleife and Nordschleife prior to 1984 was Südkehre, which also was destroyed and the first corner of the new GP layout was built there. The new connection point between the actual Nordschleife and the GP layout is now in the last corner of the GP layout a few 100 metres away to the northeast beyond the start-finish-line. Therefore it is not possible to connect all three layouts.

Might want to youtube the Dick Johnston crash of 1983 to see why the concrete walls are preferable to the grass. (although, it does seem a concrete wall was involved in him being spat into the trees)

Hint-The trees growing in the grass.

Anyone tried the new open wheelers on the go kart tracks?

Nice with 80ies Bathurst, raced it alot in GTR2 and rF1 mods some 15 years ago. And yes, Conrod Straight is something else, just diving continously and hard braking (personally preference approach in drum brake cars, but just opens for another decade class/track combo :inlove:)

Regarding Südschleife.
Thanks for the flick, Shovas, leaving me with mixed feelings of both goosebumps and regret, myself being on location 30 years ago, especially the 90 degree right hander in Müllenbach shown in the vid, hits my heart, as going dicrectly back in time to my short stay in early 90ies.
With Reiza's work I hope for both Südschleife, Nordschleife, Betonstrecke, Steilstrecke and especially Gesamtstrecke. Of which the latter I've enjoyed Kackbratze's merged work of combined Südschleife and the excellent Nordschleife mods from the NGR days.
And ofcourse, too, enjoyed the infamous AC conversion mod incl. all 6 layouts, with the opportunity to actually race almost full grid 'shrinked' Marathon de la Route, racing the excellent Tatra-2 603B work from Trained Monkey Modding.
Could bee cool if Reiza would include all of these layouts with detailed historic sourroundings of Südschleife, Betonstrecke, Steilstrecke and Nordschleife.
Now swiched back as a VR racer, even PC1's bedated bid for two Rouen-Les-Essarts is a heck of a historic journey in VR, due to all sourroundings are modelled so seemingly trustworthy and detailed.

But even if it's 'just' a stand alone Südschleife my thoughts are that Reiza will not dissapoint me here :)

Aand ofcourse I welcome more Brazilian content as here a single seater class (loved every south american track/car series since GTR2 days and especially since Reiza came up with STx and Copa Petrobras titles), but how about historic track+car combos reflecting the time?

A Südschleife followed by a late 60ies German Formula 3 series for instance? :)

And a 1983 Bathurst followed by a likewise 40th anniversary pack of Group C Touring Cars class of BMW 635i's., Nissan Bluebird Turbos, Falcon XE's and a bunch of Holden Commodore SS's? :)

Which..speaking 40th anniversary....leads to the elephant in the room for next step (big) wish
1983 WSC Group C and Group B GT pack for a well historical mofelled 1983 ADAC 1000km Nürburgring track ?? :):)

Then next on my wish list comboes can wait a bit, e.g.
1934 Grand Prix car pack @ Coppa Principessa di Piemonte, Napoli
1937 Grand Prix car pack for the XI Coppa Ciano @ Circuito del Montenero, Livorno
1950 F1 car pack for the 1950 San Remo Grand Prix @ Circuito Ospedaletti
1954 Bari Grand Prix and selected formula cars for the event

1961 sports car pack for the 1961 12 Hours of Sebring (for the time being trying to collect full historic grid in AC for the excellent sixties Sebring mod)
1961 prototype sports car pack @ 1961 CDR
1967 F1 car pack @ 1967 Gran Premio Siracusa, Sicilia
1970 Touring Cars @ 1970 Crystal Palace, London

...sorry, my wish list is endless.
But again, just so excited about classic content from official sim releases :inlove:

Sudschliefe is a great addition to any sim. Too bad the original was destroyed (remnants remain), though the logistics problems with marshaling and safety are understandable.

Yeah, this is modern sim racing we’re talking about here. Maybe we’ll see a mod for the Sudschleife for AC or something but no first party developers would ever have the imagination or balls to publish something great like that besides Reiza. It’s not esports friendly and doesn’t appease manufacturers. I’m not a huge fan of how AMS2 drives but it’s really all I play next to AC because of content like this.

Definitely brave of Reiza to bring to the market as official content a lot of historical tracks and special layouts no else has the balls to spend time on.
I believe for a long time we will not see other developers do it so we better support them so they can bring more of this good stuff.

Yes, can´t comprehend why Audi R8, Ferrari, Aston and Lambo are missing.
At least R8!
