Reiza Studios announces Nürburgring Südschleife and Historic Bathurst for AMS 2

AMS 2 announces new historic content.jpg
It's been a while since the last Automobilista 2 update. Last week, Reiza posted an community announcement revealing new content joining the sim this month and there's plenty to get excited about.

Automobilista 2 has gone from strength to strength in recent months thanks to numerous updates bringing fantastic content to the title. With releases such as older, niche race cars and classic layouts of infamous tracks, AMS2 is seemingly becoming the go-to simracing time machine.

That title is sure to stick for at least another update as Reiza Studios announced several enticing additions coming in March. On Friday, the developer took to Steam to post its March development update in which it detailed everything it is planning.

Alongside bug fixes and new features like tweaks to online modes and a wider array of options for custom championships, content provides much of the focus in this dev update.

Back to the Brazilian roots in March

It's no secret that Reiza and by extension, AMS 2 is a Brazilian organisation. The great variety of Brazilian tracks and cars play no role in hiding that fact. But in recent releases, the sim has moved away from its roots as more traditional European and North American tracks have been added.

Formula Inter is the latest Brazilian car to feature in the sim.jpg

That will not be the case when the next update releases in the near future. Reiza has shot back to Brazil for a taste of Formula Inter, a regional single seater series. Providing a first car racing experience for younger drivers exiting karts, this series resembles the likes of Formula 4 and Skip Barber.

Dubbed the MG15, this be-winged racer weighs less than 500kg all while producing nearly 200hp from its 2-litre inline four cylinder engine. Much like the Formula Ford racer set to join iRacing this week, the Formula Inter features a five-speed H pattern shifter for the full driving experience. Small wings should make for plenty of slipstreaming opportunities meaning this car will be perfect for league racing.

More historic venues join Automobilista 2

Automobilista 2 is known for its tracks lost to the past. It is often named the best game for historic content, and developments launching in March won't be bucking the trend. In its March development update, Reiza has said that elements of the coming update have pushed the release off schedule. However, I think we can all agree they are worth the wait.

Bathurst 1983
First up is an old version of Bathurst without the Chase breaking up Conrod straight. Along with the flat-out section going from the end of the mountain section all the way to the final corner, Bathurst in 1983 had a different vibe.

Today the track is lined with walls making it a challenge to race on. But from screenshots provided by Reiza, it seems the 1983 version of the course is more open with the possibility to make mistakes and come out the other side. After all, a small slide across the grass is far better than hitting a concrete barrier at full-speed.

First official representation of the Südschleife
The simracing world is now much accustom to the Nurburgring Nordschleife. However, the circuit's smaller cousin and predecessor to the GP layout isn't quite as famous. This shorter track will join the Nurbrugring DLC alongside a 1971 representation of the venue.

Historic Nurburgring release includes the Sudschleife.jpg

This will be the first time that the shorter Nurburgring layout will feature in a simracing title as official content. Just like Assetto Corsa did with the Nurburgring, could this release set off a wave of Südschleife representations in sim racing?

The Formula Inter MG15 and 1983 version of Bathurst will come with the next update to AMS 2 scheduled for release any day now. The car will reportedly be free with the base game while Bathurst will join as part of the Historic Track Pack Pt1 DLC. The historic version of the Nurburgring including the historic addition of the Südschleife will join the sim later in the month as part of the Nurburgring Pack.

Tried the new Bathurst. Wicked. Really liked it.
The new cars should make for great online racing. I think they will be fun.

Only tried the new open wheelers in practice, seems if I spin or end up on the grass it's almost impossible move off again as if front brakes are stuck on ??. A return to the pits sorts it ?? Doesn't seem right to me. More testing needed. ??.

But all in all more brilliant stuff from Reiza. Thanks guys.

Yep and the old Charade 8km + can be scanned, its still there as public roads!
Surely, but more 'perfect roads' in 2023 than just when I and my family drove down the slope on car trip round France in 1986.
And dust and loose pieces of rock (as hitting Dr. Marko) were even more prominent in the days they raced the 8k circuit.

And thats the most important factor to me, speaking historic content :

That both official sim developers and modders do have a sharp focus that it's not just about the slopes, but highly as much the task in trustworthy modelling the historic boundary conditions, curbs, tarmac, sourroundings, etc. as they were in the days that does historic simracing so fantastic relevant.

I would love to buy this new content it looks fantastic, sadly the game does not support my Moza hardware, very poor controller support and configurations.

Oh didn't knew the Moza issue was still ongoing. Did you report it on Reiza Forum?

Yes, can´t comprehend why Audi R8, Ferrari, Aston and Lambo are missing.
At least R8!
Audi Ferrari and Lambo are the most expensive licenses in the market that is why.
Eventually I guess some of them will be added (Reiza themselves mentioned in the forum Fefes are not out of question but first they need to be in better shape with the sim development).

You can't do this. When the actual GP layout was built, the Südschleife had to be destroyed, because both partially share the same area. The connection point between Südschleife and Nordschleife prior to 1984 was Südkehre, which also was destroyed and the first corner of the new GP layout was built there. The new connection point between the actual Nordschleife and the GP layout is now in the last corner of the GP layout a few 100 metres away to the northeast beyond the start-finish-line. Therefore it is not possible to connect all three layouts.
I'm disappointed, but thank you very much for this clarification. Afterwards, it will be a great joy to run on the Sudschleife! :)

I wonder how much those licenses cost on a per manufacturer basis? Do you know? I tried Googling it, but Google being Google presented basic information on video game licensing in general. Or where I can go to get my driver's license and the address of the DMV. :D

Don't know for sure but heard rumors talking about a couple of hundred thousands. Not sure if there is any truth in that. Anyway those three manufacturers are known to be the most expensive among the most "used" licenses

Classic Monthléry would be a great addition. The GTR2 mod with the chicane was fun. With group C cars, it would be a good combo. The same wirh the classic Paul Ricard (if I am right GTR2's mod is a 1988 short version. Classic versions of Monza with the high banked turns and the Pcars2's version would be great additions too. Well, all existing pcars2 classic tracks (and even ferrari test drive's classic tracks) would be great. I assume now that these are Codemasters' properties, it is more difficult to get and use these assets.

Looking forward to doing Dick Johnsons Bathurst qualy crash. The Opel will be a good substitute car(apologies to any Oz Ford fans)

I also pray that the North, South and GP slopes are connected like the Nordschleife and the GP track are already.
On the other hand I do not know if it is really possible, does the Sudscleife communicate with the norscleife historically? The GP track had to be added after the disappearance of the southern loop?
Well, anyway, it would be wonderful to be able to run on the three tracks continuously.
Yes, all three combine to create the 17+ mile Gesamtstrecke as used for endurance racing back in the day. That being said, it wasn't THAT popular of a layout, and if I can criticize AMS2 tracks for anything, its that they don't always include full layouts.

It is the combination of only 2x layouts: Nords + Sud. There is no third component.

I gave the release candidate a quick go last night.

The formula inter looks to be a decent car to drive and handles pretty good.....tho it looks like a Lego car and has no display screen or interior shift lights for those that remove the steering wheel, so your forced to drive by sound or add the in-game widget.

I didn't purchase any of the last DLC, so I can't say anything about Bathurst....I'll grab the retro track pack when it's on sale.

Looking forward to retro Nords and Südschleife, as I've never driven it virtually.
Nords already with real weather and seasons is absolutely beautiful!

Reading the March development report.....improvements on MP look a bit skeptical, so I hope they can improve the ai and custom championship.

AMS2 wishlist.....

Improve AI lines and strength.
AI still driving half on the grass in many places at Nords.
Multi lass AI still struggles to pass slower vehicles on many tracks. It has improved a bit, the bigger the gap in pace it improves but gets worse as the pace gets closer.

AI strength needs to be improved as I am a mid pack MP racer at best and nearing the max AI strength with many combos and max aggression.

Please add Multi class scoring to custom championship mode.

Fix the shadows.

Fix those and I'll be content with the game :)
