Forza Motorsport | PC Specs & Supported Wheels

Forza Motorsport Hardware Specs 2023.jpg
While more content of the new game is confirmed almost daily now, players have been wondering about the hardware they need in order to run Forza Motorsport when it launches on October 10th - and whether or not their wheels will be compatible. Here is all you need to know.

Six years after the release of Forza Motorsport 7, the latest iteration of Microsoft's and Turn 10's racing franchise is set to hit both PCs and Xbox Series X|S consoles. While performance should not be an issue for the latter, the near-infinite amount of different PC builds can make quite a difference for running the game.

2023's Forza Motorsport not only introduces a graphics overhaul, but also increases workloads under the hood with its enhanced tire model, meaning GPUs and CPUs are going to have their hands full. The minimum and recommended specs already reflect this - and for ideal settings, eye-wateringly expensive graphics cards are on the menu.

Luckily, the game does not require the beefiest of systems to run on low settings, with the recommended specs being a step into mid-end territory. The PC version supports 4k (and even higher) resolutions, including "ultrawide and non-standard resolutions for on-track gameplay". This could open the door to triple-screen usage at least via NVIDIA Surround, although support for triples has not been mentioned specifically yet.

The field of view can also be customized in Bumper, Hood, Cockpit, Driver, Chase Near and Chase Far Camera settings between 25 and 65 degrees. Whether or not this also includes the ability to customize the camera position inside the cockpit remains to be seen. Both are essential in achieving a realistic perspective when playing in a rig, based on seating position as well as monitor size, format and position.

While framerates are unlocked on PC for singleplayer modes, they are capped in multiplayer - which means 60 fps, as the console versions will run at that rate. This is done "to ensure a consistent and competitive online racing experience for all players across a variety of PC hardware configurations and the Xbox Series X|S consoles", according to the official website.

Compatible Wheels for Forza Motorsport

Meanwhile, Forza Motorsport is going to support quite a broad range of wheels by different manufacturers. Of course, the choice is limited to console-compatible hardware on Xbox, but even that list is not exactly short. Find the full list of officially supported hardware below.

For PC users, the choices do not end there, however: The new Forza is going to make use of the DirectInput API to enable players to use their high-end gear that they may have on their rigs as well. Thus far, users sporting wheels, pedals and accessories from different manufacturers tended to run into problems and had to employ a workaround using a remapping tool.

Earlier Access with Premium Edition

Forza Motorsport launches on October 10th, but users can get behind the virtual wheel on October 5th already - pre-ordering the Premium Edition lets players start the engines early. Game Pass subscribers can take advantage of this as well if they pre-order the Premium Add-Ons Bundle before launch.

Your Thoughts

What do you think about the list of compatible hardware and the DirectInput integration and hardware requirements? Are the locked fps for multiplayer modes a good decision? Let us know in the comments below!

If you buy FM7 for PC can you play it also on XBOX X ??? or if you buy it for XBOX X can you play it also on PC ????
please for replay ... or you have to buy separtley for each system PC/XBOX ???
Not sure, I know I can play Forza Horizon on both

I don't think it has anything to do with the stupidity. Forza traditionally was XBox exclusive with support for curated licensed hardware only, there wasn't any need for DirectInput support.
Of course this is not an excuse that it took them so many years after adding PC compatibility to FM7 and all released after that Horizons to actually recognize that there is a life outside Logitech and Thrustmaster wheels.

Let's hope that it actually works, and we get proper force feedback this time.

Very much looking forward to this title.
Seems to have a lot of positives/improvements but no doubt will be marred by its own shortcomings.

Hoping :
Logitech was able to convince T10 to offer individual effects volume control for Tru-Force effects.

Visually it is one title that would help convince me to upgrade my 49" monitor to the new 57" dual 4K display. Although it seems something faster than the 7900XTX with DP 2.1 won't be coming this year anyway.

That's not how it works.
All PC wheels use DirectInput, it's the standard protocol for PC wheels. If you release a game on PC, no matter if it's also released on console or if it's your first game on PC, you've to use the haptic devices support of DirectInput to make any wheel work, so if you make a generic implementation, all wheels will work.

But since 15 years, instead of simply enabling the wheel support if an haptic device is connected, most developers enable it only for a few specific wheels, without any good reason. That's why I can play to 15-20 years old games with my DD1, but not to Forza Horizon 3, and to Forza Horizon 4 only by switching to CSW2.5 mode. It's exactly like supporting only a few models of gamepads, despite all using DirectInput and/or XInput.

In Codemasters games, each supported device is handled by an XML file, so you can simply add a file with the ID of your wheel to make it work (for example the first GRID didn't support the G27, but it was easy to add it by copying the G25 file and changing the ID). But with most other developers, it's hardcoded and you can't do much about it (you can use a GIMX to fake a G27).
So you put a lot of money in a steering wheel, and you can't play to many of the games, because they were released before your wheel, or a lot later, or because it's not a mainstream wheel. And that for absolutely no reason other than an artificial absurd filter on the device ID.

So yes, that's plain stupid.

Looks like all they did is migrated XBox RacingWheel API support to UWP that was just recently abandoned.
And this is the list of RacingWheel (XBox) certified wheels, so no wonder only those were in official support.
And yes, the whole UWP was stupid.

These comments......Jesus. Nobody said that it won't support anything other than a certain brand or peripherals. It's just a sponsorship thing, DUH. And stop moaning constantly about VR. You have other games to play in VR. Not EVERYTHING has to be VR because it's 2023. It's 2023 not 2123. The VR market is still rather small (meaning nobody gives a ****).

Stop moaning? You're the only one that's moaning here.

We as VR racers have mostly a VR only rig. Of course we are allowed to hope that it gets VR. The same as that you hope that it supports your wheel/pedals if you're interested in the title.

You're not entitled to tell us what to hope for. Nobody gives a **** about your opinion either.

Mm...don't know if my i7 6700k will have enough juice to run this on medium settings on my 75hz 1080p triples...hope it does

Why are some VR fans such crybabies? All those “no VR no buy” posts are just moaning regardless how you formulate it. Just ignore the game and go play whatever works for you. There are good choices available. Building simrig with no proper monitor when ultrawides are affordable alternative is weird decision IMHO

Moaning about the moaning of the moaning... "Who's the more foolish, the fool, or the fool who follows him?" - Ben Kenobi.

"no triples no buy"

Looking forward to the title but am of the expectation that they have delayed a release so they can deliver sim like home comforts for the twenties. Triples is a big part of that and though I do have VR I do recognise that many people feel like throwing up when wearing ones and no amount of tech' is going to change that for some people but Triples, next best thing to VR so please deliver Forza even it it comes at a later date via an update.

Does the VR flatscreen experience still exist or is that just a Valve thing? And there are great 1080p screens for cheap. I'm using 3 AsRock PG27FF1A monitors. Not bleeding edge, but damn good for the coinage.

If you look at it that way then ALL comments are useless. If you cannot express your wishes for a certain title, then what's the comment section for? To praise the developers and to show excitement only? For what? Because discussion about wished feature's are crybabies in your eyes.

Comments should be disabled if it's up to you I guess.

It has nothing to do with "not being able to afford a screen/screens". We just want VR support, because after racing in VR; screens feel like going back to the stoneage for some of us. It's simply not an option anymore once you've seen something like a 4090+Pimax Crystal and got used to the VR experience. For me it's close to no wheel/pedal support; also not an option for a race title.

Or would you like to race with gamepads/keyboard only again? If the new Forza didn't have wheel/pedal support then you would probably also have expressed your feelings about it in the comment section right?

If you don't like this opinion then just ignore it, no need to go against it because VR is here to stay for sim racers and we keep expressing our opinion just as you just did.

Thats just a bad take man. By this logic as soon as a game does not have something thats vital to you as a player of a certain genre then you should not be 'allowed' to mention and suggest it in order to make the game better overall? Thats just not how anything in our society works. Debate and criticism are the core pillars on which humanity has evolved actually. Not ignoring as soon as something is not 100% to your liking.
