Forza Motorsport’s overall install size has been reduced, crashes are said to be reduced and more new content is on the way.

Following the announcement that Brands Hatch will be joining Forza Motorsport’s track roster late last week, we now know every detail pertaining to ‘Update 7’.

The patch will arrive today, 8th April 2024, and as ever there are bug fixes, fresh cars to unlock, new cars for the Car Pass DLC and this time, the new venue.

Perhaps notably, this update is set to ‘last’ five weeks, one week longer than usual, before Update 8 arrives sometime in the middle of May.


Brand Hatch​


A circuit that was seen in Forza Motorsport 7, but absent within Turn 10 Studio’s contemporary platform to date, Brands Hatch returns in the two expected layouts – Indy and Grand Prix.

As with prior additions, the most recent being April’s Nürburgring Nordschleife, this is free via the latest patch.

Retro Racer Tour, Spotlights and A New F1 Car​


This month’s ‘featured tour’, that each week across four weeks will add a new set of races to partake in, is Retro Racer.

The vehicles used here are all from a bygone area and race-ready, from Group 5, to single-seaters and Group C sportscars.

Each week, each new series will have a matching ‘spotlight car’. These are available at an in-game discount. In recent updates, the featured tour has delivered new cars to the game, but this time, all four are already present.

Below are the dates they will be available as a spotlight for:
  • Ford #2 Zakspeed Racing Capri Turbo 1981 – 11th April (UTC) 2024
  • Lola #10 Simoniz Special T163 1969 – 18th April (UTC) 2024
  • Brabham BT24 1967 – 25th April (UTC) 2024
  • Jaguar Racing #1 XJR-9 1988
It does not appear that there will be a new series just for the Jaguar, but rather Microsoft notes that it is “ideal for the Consumption Racers series.”

However, complete all four series across all four weeks, and you will unlock:
  • Renault #15 Equipe Renault Elf R.S. 01 1977 (New to Forza Motorsport)

This is brand new, and unlike some recent additions, new to the Forza franchise.

A car that competed in Formula 1, with little success it must be said, with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine. It first appeared at the 1977 British Grand Prix with Jean-Pierre Jabouille behind the wheel. While it retired, it was notable as the debut for forced induction within the sport.

There’s more too, as the extra-long gap between updates means there is a fifth spotlight car this time.
  • BMW Motorsport #25 3.0 CSL 1975
This is another car that’s already in the game and it will not receive a new corresponding series. But during its time under the spotlight, it will feature a reduced price and a new singular event.

Finally, for this section of the update, the Open Tour events for the next five weeks are themed around classic road cars. Complete all four, and unlock the:
  • Brabham BT8 1964 (New to Forza Motorsport)
This is the second new car to the game, a low-slung sports car, which we believe is replicated here with a 2.7-litre engine. Jack Brabham used it to race at the Brand Hatch Guards Trophy.

Featured Multiplayer Playlists​


The hoppers for the ranked multiplayer in the coming month, or so, include a spec event for 1960s Formula 1 cars in the first week, BMW M Procars in week two, Croup C in week three, vintage 24 Hours of Le Mans competitors and, in week five, 1970s Formula 1 cars.

There will also be 'rivals' events for old race cars and, for those with the VIP game edition unlock an additional event specifically for the Porsche 962C 1987 plus a 15 per cent store discount.

Car Pass Soon To Be Complete​


For those who own the paid-for car pass DLC, part of the Deluxe and Premium editions of the game, or available for $29.99/€29.99/£24.99, three new cars are on the way. Alternatively, each is available in the store for $2.99/€2.99/£2.49:
  • Ginetta G55 GT4 2019
  • Matra-Simca #146 MS650 Tour de France 1970
  • Ligier #11 Eurointernational JS P3 2016
All three of these cars are all-new for the game.

Once all three have been released, that marks the end of the Car Pass, which delivered 30 vehicles in total.

Henceforth, it is now not clear how often the platform will receive all new car models not recycled from prior instalments or Forza Horizon 5. We await with bated breath.

Fixes and Refinements​


The full changelog is below, but the highlights include, alongside the aforementioned fresh content, a reduced game install size to between 25-29 GB, improved textures at the Le Mans venue, enhanced proximity arrows (although, no radar system) and supposed work on game crashes during featured multiplayer, and free play.

While everyone is screaming at Turn 10 that their game is a trash fire and needs to be redone from scratch, they plug their ears and putter along with these updates as if they're going to change much. It's ludicrous, a bit funny, and a bit sad. I think the game needs to just be scrapped and redone.

EDIT: I also tried the game on gamepass for free, and even with a 7700X and a 3080 I was getting horrible performance because it simply refused to utilize all of my GPU power. I'd be getting poor frames after a lap or two and they would never return to normal, my GPU temp would also be really low despite saying 100% usage. What a steaming pile of spaghetti code.

I also tried this on game pass and aside from the tyre model it was a bit of a statement of how little thought they put into the production of the game as a sim racing title...

Whilst I'm a nerd for FFB sliders and enjoyed that set up page because I didn't have to go edit a text file, most people don't like touching that stuff for every car like I do to get the best experience from that car... I do this for all titles as part of the cars actual set up... Because it can make all the difference for a numb or undriveable car...

It was the other part of the control set up that was the first thing that showed me how little they cared about actually simulating the on track stuff... No brake bias adjustment button mappings... That's a standard thing that is needed in any title with a decent tyre model like Forza now has... As the games new tyre model forces different biases for different corners...

It's a basic car collection game trying to grow up a bit and the team behind it obviously never ran another title on the market before going "yup this is good enough"... Something a lot of devs are guilty of... Ignorance of the competition... Turn 10 should have the resources to do that kind of research...

It still looks awful, if it just looked like Horizon, I'd probably play it. I don't understand how they could have dropped the ball so badly on the graphics.
