While more content of the new game is confirmed almost daily now, players have been wondering about the hardware they need in order to run Forza Motorsport when it launches on October 10th - and whether or not their wheels will be compatible. Here is all you need to know.

Six years after the release of Forza Motorsport 7, the latest iteration of Microsoft's and Turn 10's racing franchise is set to hit both PCs and Xbox Series X|S consoles. While performance should not be an issue for the latter, the near-infinite amount of different PC builds can make quite a difference for running the game.

2023's Forza Motorsport not only introduces a graphics overhaul, but also increases workloads under the hood with its enhanced tire model, meaning GPUs and CPUs are going to have their hands full. The minimum and recommended specs already reflect this - and for ideal settings, eye-wateringly expensive graphics cards are on the menu.

Luckily, the game does not require the beefiest of systems to run on low settings, with the recommended specs being a step into mid-end territory. The PC version supports 4k (and even higher) resolutions, including "ultrawide and non-standard resolutions for on-track gameplay". This could open the door to triple-screen usage at least via NVIDIA Surround, although support for triples has not been mentioned specifically yet.

The field of view can also be customized in Bumper, Hood, Cockpit, Driver, Chase Near and Chase Far Camera settings between 25 and 65 degrees. Whether or not this also includes the ability to customize the camera position inside the cockpit remains to be seen. Both are essential in achieving a realistic perspective when playing in a rig, based on seating position as well as monitor size, format and position.

While framerates are unlocked on PC for singleplayer modes, they are capped in multiplayer - which means 60 fps, as the console versions will run at that rate. This is done "to ensure a consistent and competitive online racing experience for all players across a variety of PC hardware configurations and the Xbox Series X|S consoles", according to the official website.

Meanwhile, Forza Motorsport is going to support quite a broad range of wheels by different manufacturers. Of course, the choice is limited to console-compatible hardware on Xbox, but even that list is not exactly short. Find the full list of officially supported hardware below.

For PC users, the choices do not end there, however: The new Forza is going to make use of the DirectInput API to enable players to use their high-end gear that they may have on their rigs as well. Thus far, users sporting wheels, pedals and accessories from different manufacturers tended to run into problems and had to employ a workaround using a remapping tool.

Earlier Access with Premium Edition​

Forza Motorsport launches on October 10th, but users can get behind the virtual wheel on October 5th already - pre-ordering the Premium Edition lets players start the engines early. Game Pass subscribers can take advantage of this as well if they pre-order the Premium Add-Ons Bundle before launch.

Fixed framerate in multiplayer is actually an interesting detail. I wonder if this is going to be implemented in competitive sims in the future, maybe as an optional feature being controlled from the server hosting side.
 
Of course no other wheels outside of fanatec... still ignoring all the other direct drive wheels.. I figure also that they are not going to put ai back into online multiplayer private lobbies either.. With no Drivatars online, if they choose to go that route, I hope the sales are at an all time low..

Never played Forza but would love to try it out..Anyone know why no VR support? or any plans for implementation?

I'm going to guess that since VR is pretty much double the render overhead, they don't have sufficient GPU without sacrificing visual quality....

What's next? ban wheels to prevent unfair advantage? WTF? Should they ship a 640x480 monitors to everyone with the game to make it all fair... What a truly stupid decision. Frame rates are not a key differentiator in wining but pisses me off after buying an RTX 4090.

FOV
The fact they only allow a limited range of FOV disqualifies this game as a true sim... I have an 49 super ultra wide and truly love it and if I can't get the proper FOV, this game is already on the refund list.

Not having triple screen support will keep my money in my wallet. With the triple screen option, I would give it a try for the first time.

I don´t want to play Forza on my wheel. Because i have some real sims installed which are better for.
But i love to play Forza relaxed on my sofa with a controller and chase cam (for real)
Thats the way Forza always meant to be played. So i hope its gonna be a perfect sim-cade with challanging and fun controller playability ! (Of course not such Horizon nonsense)

I don't know the definitive answer but I remember the physics simulation in Forza Horizon 5 not being deterministic and maybe that didn't change for this new title. This means that the physics doesn't performs the same depending on framerate and better PC performance actually makes your cars perform better than lower end computers. Sepi (SP4) made a video back in November '22 demonstrating this.
Fixed framerate in mp was probably set up to ensure everyone is running on the same physics.
 
It would be nice if Forza could confirm they will do proper multiple device support and that button binding is useful for non-console wheels instead of how it currently is limited in FH5. I do think Forza belief the game should be equal for controllers and wheels create a dynamic where it encourages bad driving practices for Wheel Driving. As all too often I have seen controller drivers using power slides to get through corner and crashing out me as a wheel drivers attempting to the the turn correctly, so you are pretty much forzed to do power slides/crashes to get through corners. Maybe the new safety ratings will help.

They kind of did already.
In addition to native support for popular racing wheels from Logitech, Thrustmaster and Fanatec, Forza Motorsport supports the DirectInput API on PC. This allows players to plug in and play with a much wider range of hardware than before. There is also input remapping so you can customize the button layout of your controller, mouse and keyboard, as well as your favorite steering wheels and non-standard gamepads like flight sticks. This level of device extensibility means Forza Motorsport is accessible to more players who use custom hardware setups.
 
These high end games are finally starting to make my 4790K with 2070 SUPER struggle a bit (1440p with GSYNC). The F1 games I have to use DLSS but I think Forza is going to be a step above!

That and things like Over Jump Rally make me think an upgrade is needed one day.

What I'd like to know is: could I just connect a whole new motherboard/RAM/graphics and use my existing Windows 10 hard disks and they'll sort themselves out? I've got over 1000 games installed and would rather not start again
 
The Thrustmaster T-GT / T-GT2 wheels aren't on the supported list - I thought those wheels were just as catered for as the old standard T300? I've been thinking of getting one of these wheels as I thought they hit a sweet spot for performance and wide range of compatibility (although overpriced compared to some newer DD offerings) but I'll hang back if devs are dropping support for some reason?

Edit: Just thought - no mention of the T-LCM pedals either, or are these universally compatible if plugged in directly to the base?
