Assetto Corsa Competizione v1.8 Update

Assetto Corsa Competizione has been updated to version 1.8. In this multi-page article we are taking a look at the updates to the content, gameplay experience, significant physics updates and the graphics and user unterface.

Kunos Simulazioni has released version 1.8 of Assetto Corsa Competizione. The update is extensive and affects most aspects of your experience playing the SRO simulator.

New content is generally what grabs the attention of sim racers, so this is where we’ll start with our look at the update. The Lamborghini Super Trofeo EVO2 may be joining the sim soon along with the BMW M2 CS, but for now players will need to be content with the BMW M4 GT3. Kunos has been discussing this addition since August but have exceeded their own timeline in bringing it to us.

To complement and integrate the M4 GT3, Kunos has given us the 2021 GT World Challenge Europe season including all liveries and drivers. For those not content to race a single series, Kunos has created a new way to race: Open series. The Open mode allows you to combine various classes of cars, including ST and Porsche Cup with GT3 and GT4.

Another major update affecting gameplay is revised weather logic. Variability now has a greater effect on weather swings and durations.

The changelog pertaining to gameplay and content is below, and look for more coverage of the big 1.8 update here at RaceDepartment.
  • Updated project to Unreal Engine version 4.26.2.
  • Added Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe 2021 season as bonus content with all entries, liveries and drivers and championship season (certain entries subject to DLC ownership)
  • Added all-new BMW M4 GT3 as bonus content as part of the 2021 season.
  • Added Open season, merging all game content into a "sandbox" season featuring grid customization.
  • Added opponent grid mixing option to Custom Race Weekend and Quick Race game modes in the Open season.
    • Use the grid mixing sliders to set car group prevalence in the grid.
    • GT3 car group has an additional setting for preferred generation of opponent cars (all, pre-2019 or new-gen).
  • Added Open series championship mode with grid (car groups) and track lineup customization.
  • Fixed multiclass championships not splitting points per car groups.
  • Automatically generated custom cars are now grouped into teams both in single-make custom mode and Open series championship.
  • Reworked driver assignment system to support custom-generated grids and various driver count requirements.
  • Standardized entry and team ID system across the whole game content in support of the Open series grid generation and championship.
  • Removed entry duplication between the 2019 GTWCH and IGT seasons.
  • Fixed potential rule inconsistencies between official sprint and endurance game modes when played via Single Player and Championship.
  • This also fixes inconsistent auto-selection behaviour of the MFD in these sessions depending on game mode.
  • Tweaked AI logic for strategic decisions reacting to weather changes.
  • Fixed a potential issue with AI pitstop status when loading a saved game, causing cars to DNF.
  • Improved weather model: variability (=randomness in MP) now affects the variation and frequency of weather cycles:
    • Higher variability will now produce larger variation and less predictability in the length of individual weather cycles (time between peaks).
    • High variability might produce both fast changes or prolonged weather spells (or both combined) within the same weekend simulation.
    • Low variability will produce more even weather cycles, akin to the pre-update model.
  • Revised certain aspects of weather functions, including standing water formation and dissipation.
  • Revised skewed track limit definitions for Oulton Park that prevented correct gain calculation.
  • Revised pit speeding thresholds that were often too permissive, both on pit entry and pit exit.
  • Fixed invalid lap being eligible for personal and session fastest (purple) lap in race sessions (also in Multiplayer results).
  • Overhaul of track limit warnings on wet track with its own dynamic, gain-based reference system.
  • Added measures against irregular driving before the green light in Hotlap and Hotstint game modes.
  • Fixed an issue with the Ferrari 488 GT3 (both versions) that resulted in an inconsistency in pitstop position versus other cars.
  • Replay: revised replay tyre rotation matrix calculation to avoid misalignment between tyres and rim (and reduce disk space). The improvement is backwards-compatible, while newly saved replays should occupy less disk space than before.

what were you at previously? Im seeing no FPS improvement with DLSS or FSR. What CPU are? My system is i7 9700F CPU & RTX 2070 super gpu. So far im massively dissapointed, but im sure i must be doing something wrong!
It upscales the resolution in a smart way, so you probably have to select a lower resolution and than turn DLSS on.
Running it at the same resultion does nothing.
So if you run at 1440x2560, you can choose 1920x1080 (or even 1280x720) and let DLSS upscale the image.
if running at 4K you could try to put it at 1080 and let DLSS fix it.
Than you should see an increase in FPS.

They said in the stream that if you are CPU limited, this won't help at all. It only helps in cases where you are GPU limited. So, if you are running 25 AI or are somehow CPU bound, you will not see an improvement.

Check your utilization. I use NVIDIA GeForce Experience overlay and it shows the usage. I'm a bit CPU bound, but mostly GPU.

So the update to 1.8 is causing a me some pain. It's crashing for me on menus that have some graphics with this

Direct3DDevice->CreateUnorderedAccessView(Texture->GetResource(),&UAVDesc,(ID3D11UnorderedAccessView**)UnorderedAccessView.GetInitReference()) failed
at D:/Kunos/ksue4/Engine/Source/Runtime/Windows/D3D11RHI/Private/D3D11UAV.cpp:116
with error E_INVALIDARG

Is is just me with my old machine or is anyone else having the same?
Same here...

I have ts-xw and it also doesn't work
I reckon they have pulled the SF1000 native integration for some reason? Everyone over at the ACC forum with a SF1000 is reporting it doesn’t work… not had anyone say theirs is working yet which makes me think it’s either broken or not there at all… expect a ‘hot fix’ I reckon…

Ehm. No?

You don't change resolution with DLSS. You select the target resolution, not the source one. DLSS decreases the source automatically.

Have you every read season updates for iR?
Yee, this patch is big, but not a massive.
Don't forget... Iracing is a service and you have to pay monthly or yearly to get access to the game and season updates. You can get ACC for under 30 bucks with no additional costs except DLCs. And these are also a lot cheaper or richer compared to IR

$11.32 right now on GMG.

The single player updates are a huge change that is very welcomed. Been a while since I booted this up, but this update has me eager to try the new championship options. Looking forward to checking out the new liveries as well.

So if we still have a shiit card like GTX 1660 then this dlss update won't mean shiit to us and we will still have to use shiit settings?

Just tried DLSS and FSR with different settings in VR (Reverb G2) and it didn´t look good or gave performance improvements. Am I missing something?
No they just toasted it completely because Kunos don't give a **** about their VR users

Thats exactly the oposite of how it works :)

This update sounds fantastic. More customization in SP exactly what I felt was needed from this game

This update is ONE BIG DISASTER.

VR doesn't run at all anymore, this on an Adler Lake i7 + 3080TI. Before this update the performance was OK, I hoped for an small improvement with DLSS but no matter what I do, the GPU usage is 95% while the resolution needs to be ~50% of what it was for the same FPS as before the update.

Kunos: PLEASE REVERT THIS UPDATE ! It makes this game unplayable, it's a huge disaster.

For the people with the e_invalid_arg problem. I found a solution for this problem. There is a game that had the same issue. I think its an unreal engine problem.

Hope im allowed to post links. Otherwise i posted this in the steam forum too.
https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases

1) Download dxvk-1.9.1.tar.gz
2) Find d3d11.dll and dxgi.dll in archive
3) Copy into your game folder YourInstallDirectory\AC2\Binaries\Win64

It worked for me i can now play again. Hope this helps.

Yeah VR performance and visual quality is an issue now with this update. I had it working well with the various suggestions floating about before this update (12700K, RTX3080).

I also had the no FFB issue, but managed to fix that by updating Fanalab to the latest version.

Are you not tired of driving GT3 class since 2019 every time?
I would already be tired.
For 30 bucks with no service of working ranking system and adequate car damage system. Not to mention of productivity, real multiclass racing, driver swaps etc.

Ive been trying out DLSS, its making no difference wether its on or off, got latest drivers on my RTX2070 super, what am i doing wrong. FPS exactly the same on or off. I must be doing something wrong right? Have to say also though, that even without changing any settings, game seems to be running at slightly higher FPS and more efficiently, lest CPU stutters
Hi, at a first look yesterday same on my RTX 3080, no difference with or without DLSS except some quality loss when enabling DLSS.
I have checked it again this morning and found out that the worser the conditions, the better DLSS is working.
Escpecially in dark and rainy conditions I can see an improvement of fps.

But some other strange things are happening too after the update.
When DLSS enabled I get some screen tearing even with VSYNC on and fixed framerate of 60 (I am running the game in 4K and all set to epic)
When using the bonnet view in the race there is some massive ghosting at the edge of the bonnet. It dissapeared when creating a custom livery, strange, isn' t it ?
Another strange thing is that immediately after the leader has finished the race I get some stuttering and frame drops.
Only in this condition, it remains for about half a lap than dissapears. Very strange...

If you like I have made one video racing at Spa, you can find it in the video section.
(The admins will kill me if I post a video again here in the comments )
A second one is on the way running in rainy conditions, early morning at the Nurburgring.

Have a nice day and keep on racin' !
