Formula 1 takes on the fastest circuit on the calendar this weekend, with some potentially interesting mid-field battles set to take place.

Racing's Temple of Speed, Monza, is the site of Formula 1 racing this weekend. In addition to being home to the fastest F1 lap ever recorded with Lewis Hamilton's 1:18.887 Q3 time in 2020, Monza has also provided storylines for fans in recent years.

Daniel Ricciardo's most recent win came at Monza, and Hamilton and Max Verstappen collided in turn 1 in the midst of their famous season-long battle last year.

This year's championship battles for drivers and constructors have been far less hotly contested, with Verstappen and the Red Bull team comfortably ahead in either contest.

Behind them, Ferrari and Mercedes aren't far apart in the standings thanks to Mercedes claiming second and fourth last time out at Zandvoort. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finds himself in a second tightly-contested points battle as well, tied with Red Bull's Sergio Perez for second place in the drivers' standings.

Monza favours cars with stronger high speed capabilities, and could be yet another showcase of the dominant Red Bull car. While the 2022 regulations will keep the cars from setting a record breaking laptime, the ability to follow closer than last season through fast corners could make for some interesting on-track battles.

We should allow marshalls to have some sort of cutting edge disintegration guns that would clear any car that cannot be removed without a safety car and allow for a quick restart after a short VSC period.

F1 is about cutting edge solutions, isn't it?

Verstappen would surely have won if the race had resumed after the SC. But ending the race under a yellow flag is a downer for sure. There is a simple solution: any SC with 5 laps remaining, throw a red flag. Then, resume with one lap behind the SC followed by the green flag.

With Leclerc on softs and cars unable to be touched, Verstappen would have been passed on a red flag + standing restart and a couple laps of racing. If the FIA decided that, the Internet would have gone nutz with fans accusing Race Direction of rigging the race so Ferrari wins on home soil, memes of Ferrari International Assistance and so on.

It was not the ending we wanted to see, but it was a fair one.
I'm not saying it was unfair... nor am I saying they should have red flagged it; just that why not, as a rule (not an in race decision), red flag the race if there is a SC in the last 3 laps.

And I seriously doubt Verstappen would have been passed, he was quicker than LeClerc all day on every tire. He was keeping pace with LeClerc with 20 lap old softs, while LeClerc was on brand new mediums.

I agree with the idea of throwing the red if there's a risk that the race will otherwise end under safety car. The one amendment I would make to the rules in this situation is for the restart to then be a rolling start, as otherwise you're introducing too much random into the final outcome after a lengthy race sorted the field. In fact, maybe all red flag restarts should be rolling, less chance of a crash bringing the SC straight back out.

Six races to go - 150 pts + 6 fastest laps.
Today
MV 335
CL 219
Difference 116
If MV wins in Singapore with CL third (or lower) then he'll have the WDC won as he'll have 126 pts advantage with only 125pts available - excluding fastest laps
if my maths is correct :D

Max had a brilliant first lap and is in a class of his own this season, winning 5 races in a row now. But Nyck de Vries deserved the DotD award today. Some people doubt his ability on tire management, but look at what he did on the mediums today! He really deserves a seat in F1 next year!

Yeah... if nothing else he should get Latifi's seat. That result should be embarrassing for Latifi.

I wouldn't be surprised to see red flags to prevent instances like this happening again; can't see a downside of doing that -- especially if they don't allow the tyres to be changed.
Just stop the race, and restart on the grid - as they were.

The Formula 2 feature race, I have better starts in rFactor2 then that :p

Supposed to be best drivers in the world what a laugh

There is one more sprint IIRC, so Charles has to have a really bad finish or it'll be Japan, also very nice, even though Honda is only halfway in F1 anymore lol

Honestly there are other solution without a red flag too, either:

1. Let lapped cars pass SC when you are halfway round the track and restart at the end of the lap, there is not even a reason why they should be back on the lead lap anyway.

2. Sort it out behind the safety, everyone who is lapped gets overtaken until they are at their corresponding position on the track, lap counter only gets changed digitally, also one lap saved.

(3.) If there is no way to do it one of those ways then they should throw the red flag although imo tires should be allowed to change, since one could have gotten lucky with VSC/SC whereas his on-track rival wasnt, even though he could've changed tires next time he came by the pits and maybe even retain track position

F2, the best drivers? Not by a long shot, especially this year. There's zero interest among F1 teams for Drugovich, the champion for 2022.

The fact that F2 gives more super licence points than Indycar shows what a bunch of Eurosnobs the folks at the FIA are.

If he doesn't have any mechanical issues, he could win all six. The RB is the best car right now, reminds me of Vettel's championship years.
I am even talking about all the races next year. I honestly see complete domination until at least the end of next year. There have been several seasons that 1 team dominated with over an 80%-win percentage. McLaren had a season with a 94%-win percentage. Between now and the end of next year, we could see Red Bull win over 20 more races. I think it is possible.

I don't think F1's diversity cry holds much water. "We Race as One" as long as you come to Europe and race in our feeder series.

It isn't snobism, it is the FIA acting like apple creating their own walled garden. With the super license points squeme they are forcing all the F1 prospects to race at the FIA championships if they want to maximize their options to reach F1, that keeps a stable money stream flowing towards the FIA. It is more the FIA protecting their championships than any kind of euro centric snobism.
