Formula 1 takes on the fastest circuit on the calendar this weekend, with some potentially interesting mid-field battles set to take place.

Racing's Temple of Speed, Monza, is the site of Formula 1 racing this weekend. In addition to being home to the fastest F1 lap ever recorded with Lewis Hamilton's 1:18.887 Q3 time in 2020, Monza has also provided storylines for fans in recent years.

Daniel Ricciardo's most recent win came at Monza, and Hamilton and Max Verstappen collided in turn 1 in the midst of their famous season-long battle last year.

This year's championship battles for drivers and constructors have been far less hotly contested, with Verstappen and the Red Bull team comfortably ahead in either contest.

Behind them, Ferrari and Mercedes aren't far apart in the standings thanks to Mercedes claiming second and fourth last time out at Zandvoort. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finds himself in a second tightly-contested points battle as well, tied with Red Bull's Sergio Perez for second place in the drivers' standings.

Monza favours cars with stronger high speed capabilities, and could be yet another showcase of the dominant Red Bull car. While the 2022 regulations will keep the cars from setting a record breaking laptime, the ability to follow closer than last season through fast corners could make for some interesting on-track battles.

Is there a reason they can't red flag the race when there is an VSC or SC in the last 3 laps (and prevent teams from working on their cars)?

At the end of the day, Max was almost certainly going to win either way, but it'd be far better to have the race under green rather than a parade behind the SC.

Hot take or not, I agree with the sentiment if this is the alternative. Races should not be ending under safety car and I thought last year set a precedent for making sure we got a green flag finish.
Really, honestly? After the mess that was made of it last year you really think that?

Ending the race under the safety car was the right thing to do. It’s called a safety car for a reason, and that reason is “SAFETY” surprise surprise.

I'm disapointed FIA didn't bother at least trying to get some sort of official rules in place to faciltate ending races NOT under the SC. Bloody hate SCs.....glad I like motorbike racing, it's a much purer form of racing without too much crap getting in the way.

With Leclerc on softs and cars unable to be touched, Verstappen would have been passed on a red flag + standing restart and a couple laps of racing. If the FIA decided that, the Internet would have gone nutz with fans accusing Race Direction of rigging the race so Ferrari wins on home soil, memes of Ferrari International Assistance and so on.

It was not the ending we wanted to see, but it was a fair one.

Another farce of a result. Keep the safety car out to make sure red bull win. Absolute joke.
The only joke here is your comment. Implying RB wouldn't have won anyway. If there was no SC RB would have won with ~15sec lead. If the race was restarted after the SC how exactly do you think would Leclerc easily overtook Max who was on a set of fresh tyres whereas Lec was on an used set.
