Who will win the Dutch GP?

The home race for the reigning and likely two-time champion Max Verstappen runs this weekend as F1 takes on Zandvoort.

It has become increasingly difficult to perceive any threats to Max Verstappen winning a second consecutive drivers' championship as the 2022 season has progressed, and this weekend is unlikely to change that trend.

Verstappen will be looking to claim victory in what is considered to be his home race, the Dutch Grand Prix. His campaign this season has been impressive to say the least, and neither Ferrari nor Mercedes have found an answer to his dominance.

With fewer than ten races left in 2022 and the drivers' and constructors' championships all but concluded, much of F1 viewing may shift to the midfield. After an impressive start to the year, Ferrari has been plagued by inconsistency and questionable strategy calls. They sit just 41 points ahead of Mercedes, who lack the pace of Ferrari or Red Bull, but have shown consistency.

A collision involving two drivers who account for nine drivers' championships occurred last weekend at Spa-Francorchamps when Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso collided early in the race. This captured a lot of negative attention on social media, but the former teammates have since been photographed together smiling and embracing.

This will be the last run at Zandvoort for Sebastian Vettel, who plans to retire at the end of this season. The four-time champion has long been a fan favourite, and this support has increased further since the announcement of his intended departure from F1.

Other than Verstappen, who do you expect to see on the podium this weekend?

Unless the new technical directives actually changed their perfomance (Spa is not a good measuring stick) I would expect for Ferrari to have the upper hand on sheer pace. Which we know it does not mean much, just to see how RBR manouvers around them for another win.

I think Ferrari will do well here. they have better downforce than RB which is needed on this track. But as a fan of Max I hope he wins his home race. Zandvoort is just a nice old old scholl track

Max is going to walk it. Ferrari will forget to install 5th gear in Charles’ car and will pit Carlos onto wets.

Lewis to arrive wearing an orange cape in his latest escapade in ‘outfits you didn’t expect an actual adult to wear’*

Danny Ric to be announced as a replacement for Bernd Maylander

Race to be first F1 event visible from space.

*he’s just trolling, if it triggers you when he turns up in a silly outfit then it’s working

Statistically, Leclerc is the driver with the most pole positions this year. And being Zandvoort one of the tracks that is hard to do overtakes, he could win here.. providing that Ferrari don't manage to sabotage his race.

Fingers crossed Ferrari can gain some credibility back and get a good result for Charles. The lad deserves it, it's been an up and down year and he and the team have to learn from what has happened then come back next year and fight it out.

I want a race where no-one runs away into the distance and wins by a huge margin. I don't mind who actually wins but it would be nice to have an element of unpredictability until the end rather than have the race over by half distance - or even by the end of the first few laps - excluding reliability issues.
The last few seasons of Mercedes wins got a bit - well a lot - boring. I don't really want to see dominance by one team replaced by that of another.

Don't forget that it was way back in 2009 that we last had a world champion that wasn't in a Mercedes or Red Bull - and that was Jenson Button in the Brawn. And only four different WDC in that same period...

McLaren won the Piastri derby. He better be as good as they say he is. I don't think a rookie will have as much pressure to deliver as he will next season. And against Norris, on top of it...

Guess what team Brawn GP is nowadays :p

Max Verstappen basically walking away with the title unchallenged this year seems not so much down to any technical regulation or rules change but mostly becuase their big contender, Ferrari, just keeps dropping the ball. Even with the years of Mercedes dominance there were instances of Red Bull pulling great strategy or Ferarri being able to compete through sheer power (And then dropping the ball!), but now it just seems down to Merc having a bad year and Ferrari being complete idiots. The big element of unpredictability this years seems to be which creative method of ****ing things up Ferrari finds this race. It's really frustrating in a way that previous years were not.

Orange fireworks ON track causing a red flag? Hate to say it as a dutchman, but if they decide to ditch Zandvoort next year I would understand. Edit: they just caught the guy and he is escorted.

Welp, in the end Max got pole but Leclerc had potential for the best, he lost 13 hundredths against his banker lap on the definitive one, and lost pole by 2. The sheer pace has not changed, and this also demonstrates that it's not that the TD hurt them too much, just that Spa favours aero efficiency a lot, an area where RBR has been the best since Race 1 of the season.

Unfortunately, unless Max botches the start somehow, I don't see Ferrari fighting for the win tomorrow, they will likely suffer from tyre wear and fall into Mercedes's clutches.

don't forget the Max factor because Perez does different things with the same car
