TT Isle of Man - The Game

Been putting some practice in on the big bikes as I’ve always struggled with them and favoured the 600s until now. I’ve noticed most guys in multiplayer ride ZX-10s but I much prefer the BMWs, generally Hicky’s Smiths BMW. They’re slower but they accelerate like beasts and are generally a bit more controllable than the Kawasakis or Hondas.

I’ve been gradually increasing my speed, focusing on clean laps riding within myself. I think where I was going wrong before was trying to ride the Superbike like a 600 in terms of my braking points, peel in points and how aggressive I’d be on the brakes and throttle. I’ve gone back to square one and relearned where all my markers are so I can better deal with the extra speed I’m carrying and I’m lifting off a lot more through areas I’d be flat on the Supersport. Been inching up from 18’00 and rode a nice clean, controlled 17’03 last night. Really proud of that lap, given I ride “hardcore” with no aids and helmet cam.

I did a bit of section-by-section practice in time attack to find the limits and I think 16’30 is in my gift in the next few days. But the line is so fine on the superbikes between fast and disaster. On the supersports you can get it a bit wrong and just miss your apex and you’re ok but on the big bikes there seems to be more ways to fall off (under braking, under acceleration, carrying too much speed). Loving it though.

How was it at the race Andy, I've only had time to watch up to the mid point of the 1st 600 race so no spoilers please ;) !! Gutted to hear about Dan Kneen :( RIP
No spoilers? Have you not seen the results? All I will say is this year was a special year for the TT. Despite the sadness of those who lost their lives.
Already booked for next year. Just bought a new bike for me and the missus to go on.

Yeah I’m still about 30s faster on the 600s, but closing in. I’m usually ahead at Ballaugh, which is what I consider my personal checkpoint. I know if I’m 7’30 or better at the bridge I’m on a decent lap, and I’m usually closer to 7’00 than 7’30 on the superbikes. But I lose tons of time in section 8 through church town and I’m not aggressive enough on the mountain yet. But it will come.

I've recorded the ITV4 shows and only up to the 1st 600 race, been really busy with other stuff and not finding the time to watch it all yet. SO much better now that I can easily recognise where they are from the game being so accurate. So much to do and so little time to do it all!

Cheers, I saw the game and thought it looked good, track was great, graphics nice...
But if I can’t play it on anything other than a controller without messing around with stuff then I can’t be arsed really.
Cheers

Hi guys,

I've started creating some tutorial videos, riding section-by-section on the Snaefell Mountain Course. Hopefully some of you find these useful - let me know what you think! I'll add to this post as I finish more.

huzzah!! I just beat my (albeit crap) 600 time (18:52 or something I believe) with a 18:27 on Rutter's BMW. And that was a going careful(ish) sort of lap with only one damn stupid crash! Next lap I was creaming my ghost, annnnnnd then it all went crap and after 5 crashes I gave up on that! More practise needed methinks! There are still large swaths of track I just have no idea what's coming up, only thing that saves me is the corner markers (my only remaining "cheat"). I am nowhere near getting rid of that crutch as of yet....oh and I'm back to 3rd person too, concentrating on just learning the damn track before I try on board again. Although I wish the screens were clearer (and the riders head was just a bit higher...why can't these bikes games let us move the view around a bit like all the car sims?!!)

My entry in the Steam forums TT Corner challenge. Hardcore mode, 16'41"285 on a 600. Not too shabby. That puts me in the bronze medal slot, but a long way behind the top two guys who are seriously, seriously quick.

I knew I was on a quick, clean run at section 8 (I know if I get to Sulby Bridge closer to 8'00" than 8'30" then I'm on a fast run, so I was going a bit easy on the mountain, especially in section 12 on the way back to Douglas. Almost binned it at the Creg, but it was a solid run. Annoyingly, I did a better run immediately after in a multiplayer race, but I wasn't recording.

Apologies for the eery silence on the video. I couldn't figure out how to get OBS to record the sound from the stream, and it was recording the background noise from my laptop mic instead. Removed the sound in the YouTube vid I uploaded as I figured nobody would want to listen to my kids rambling in the background, trying to distract me as I ride.

gawd I'm just nowhere near the precison needed for that sort of lap!!

Haha it just comes with time. I dread to think how many laps of the course I’ve done now, but I know the circuit like the back of my hand and all the lines and braking points for both Supersport and Superbike.

I found time attack mode is good for finding the limits, which means you can ride safely within yourself but still dip below 17 minutes.

I really wish the game would flag up ALL the major corner names in the bottom left, would make learning the course properly so much easier. I'm using these vids and the many real vids online. I also went slowly through the course trying to spot as many real corner markers in the game to make a note of the names. I mean I can't believe Sarah's and Kate's cottages are not mentioned in game.

Thanks for taking the time to create and share these tutorial videos. I am enjoying working my way through them all. Good stuff!

Thanks! Glad you’re finding them useful. 8 and 9 should be finished tomorrow but then it’ll be a week or two before the rest as I’m on holiday.

Yeah it is a bit weird. I had to do quite a lot of research and watch several videos to get the corner names for some bits but the info is out there. Not sure why they didn’t include more corner names.

My Superbike entry for the Hardcore Challenge on Steam. 16'39 on the Pete Hickman BMW. Desperately close to 136mph average speed. Solid lap, but I was concentrating on keeping my nose clean TBH. Started wimping out from section 8 onwards, though I picked up the pace a bit on the mountain for sections 10 and 11.
