GTL Troubleshooting Thread

Hiroshi Awazu i can't seem to find the info, maybe you can help its the Mercury Cougar mod. do i need to remove the default car cause not sure how it works.

EDIT: i figure it out but another question is it possible to have AI cars on the dedi server like in race 07 and how can i make that only the car i want to be only the car selectable ?

Ok i just checked the .CAR and seems Cougar is not linked to any default cars.

I just added SIM_PANTERA to the Classes line:

classes="SIM_FULL, SIM_GTC, SIM_NOBRIT, SIM_DRIFT, SIM_PANTERA, SIM_NOKING, SIM_NOLONG, SIM_GTC76, SIM_TOURING"

And fired up the sim, just chose the Pantera and the Cougar comes up with it. I didn't do a server test but car should come up now when you select the Pantera.

You're going to have to edit all the Cougars if you want them all to show, i only did one.

If i recall correctly this is a Altbierbude car right? They have their cars on their site edited differently.

Found this often wondered what it all meant..:geek:
ALIGNING A CAR TO AN ORIGINAL CAR

Open the car-file in the car folder you want to change (for example with notepad), scroll down to the line that begins with ‘classes’ and ad the definition/code of the car you want your car referred to.

TC ’65: Abarth 1000TC = SIM_1000TC / Alfa Romeo GTA = SIM_AGTA / Ford Falcon = SIM_FALCON / Ford Mustang = SIM_MUSTANG / Jaguar MKII = SIM_MKII / Lotus Cortina = SIM_CORTINA / Mini Cooper = SIM_AMINI

GTC ’65: AC Cobra = SIM_COBRA / Austin Healey = SIM_AUSTINHEALEY / Chevrolet Corvette = SIM_VETTE + SIM_V65 / Ferrari 275 GTB = SIM_FERRARI / Ford GT40 = SIM_GT40 / Jaguar E-Type = SIM_ET / Lotus Elan = SIM_Elan / Lotus Elite = SIM_ELI / Mercedes 300SL = SIM_300SL / Renault Alpine A110 = SIM_ALP / Shelby Daytona = SIM_DAYTONA / Shelby GT350 = SIM_GT350 / TVR Griffith = SIM_TVR

GTC/TC ’75: BMW CSL = SIM_CSL / Chevrolet Corvette = SIM_VETTE + SIM_V76 / De Tomaso Pantera = SIM_PANTERA / Ford Capri = SIM_CAPRI / Ford Escort = SIM_RS2000 / Porsche 906 = SIM_P906 / Porsche 911 = SIM_RSR / Porsche 914 = SIM_P914

Here are two examples of how I aliased the incredible Triumph TR4 from Butch:

classes="SIM_FULL, SIM_GTC, SIM_GTC65, SIM_GTCTC65, SIM_NOLONG, SIM_GTC65NOT, SIM_ALP" the last entry refers them to the Renault Alpine (for the slower ones)

classes="SIM_FULL, SIM_GTC, SIM_GTC65, SIM_GTCTC65, SIM_NOLONG, SIM_GTC65NOT, SIM_ELAN" the last entry refers them to the Lotus Elan (for the faster ones)

Now, when I chose the Alpine, I also will have the slow TR4’s available (same for AI), and when I chose the Elan, I also will have the fast TR4’s available (same for AI). They still will appear as Triumph TR4, though.

Now that is, what I found out about the definition/code of the cups. As I have the German version, I don’t know the exact name of the cups in English, but I think you will recognize them.

ALIGNING A CAR TO A CERTAIN CUP

Long Distance: SIM_FULL (this entry should not be changed, because it not only refers to the cup, but to the whole sim), SIM_NOLONG (Ai will not chose this specific car)

Short Track: SIM_MASH (you can chose this specific car), SIM_NOSHORT (Ai will not chose this specific car)

Heavy Metal: SIM_HEAVY (you can chose this specific car), SIM_NOMETAL (Ai will not chose this specific car)

British Green: SIM_BRITISH (you can chose this specific car), SIM_NOBRIT (Ai will not chose this specific car)

Super Touring: SIM_TOURING (you and AI can chose this specific car), unfortunately no known AI-restraint code

Speed Metal: SIM_SPEED (you and AI can chose this specific car), unfortunately no known AI-restraint code

Passion Porsche: SIM_PORKA (you and AI can chose this specific car), unfortunately no known AI-restraint code

USING ADDON CARS IN CAREER CUPS

for TC'65 add SIM_TC65 so you can choose the car, if you don't want AI to use the car add also, SIM_TC65NOT

for GTC'65: add SIM_GTC65 so you can choose the car, if you don't want AI to use the car add also SIM_GTC65NOT

for GTCTC’76 add SIM_GTC76 so you and AI can choose the car. Unfortunately I have not found any entry that will prevent AI using a car.

+Just saw your alert, Rupe. Thanks for the offer, but it's mainly problems with having tried to upgrade from 32bit to 64bit with a bad disc that I bought. I'll keep plugging away until I sort it out. I still can run GTL but I have a lot of junk I'm trying to get rid of. I keep up on the Forum, so when we start the next series I should be OK. Appreciate your help, though. Where is the info kept on setting up TS3, though?

Brian here is the help section with hints and tips for GTL HERE allot of things are covered in it.. or you can use this section to ask for help...or help in sorting out a problem.. :)
Others can also benefit from the info.;)
If we have a new problem we can find the answer together, then ill update the hints and tips thread with a link to the solution.. :)

To log onto the Simbin server you can register with any name and password, start a fresh. As long as your game profile says Brian Harlow you will be ok on the RD servers.:) Once you have got this all done and you have it working, take a copy of your UserData folder from inside the gtl sim and save it somewhere safe.

The server refuses to let me in, and says I have an invalid User Name/PW. I've tried every combination I can think of, but no go. Is there any way of finding out what the right combo is? I checked the User Data files but there is nothing to do with Simbin or RD. I've gone into every folder that looks relevant but nothing. I guess the Register info disappeared with my PC crash. The only interesting thing is that when I try to Login on Multiplayer that the User Name "Tiny Tim" pops up, which is correct, but I don't remember the P/W. Any way of retrieving that?

The only place it is stored is in your plr file Brian.
found here \GTlegends\UserData\XXXX XXX

If it is a new install the info will of gone, make a new online profile. :)
its quicker in the long run..:)
How to delete a online account.. HERE

I have a fully working copy of the sim with all the settings that i want, if my sim goes wrong i just take a copy of this and start a fresh it takes 10 mins..
i found this the best way to do it.
So to all drivers when you have a fully working sim after a clean install with no added tracks or cars take a copy of it and use it as a master and copy from there..

you can spend allot of time trying to get things working...and still not get it to work.. plan ahead for it going wrong..

Yep, sounds like I'll have to re-install. I can't delete the online info. as I use a Steam install and it won't show me the P/W so I'll install off my hard disk, and try and get rid of StarForce and make a working copy as you suggest. No short cuts in this business, eh?

Brian Harlow
lets just confirm a few things please.
have you reinstalled your operating system win 7 ? if so does it run /work ok
if you haven't the chances are starforce is still lurking on your system. and this will not go away.
you could try this to get rid of starforce
http://www.star-force.com/support/drivers/ this is found at the bottom of the page
To remove all protection components from the system:
  • Download the zip-archive of the SFREMOVE utility.
  • Unpack the archive and save the sfdrvrem.exe file to some folder on the hard disk.
  • Run sfdrvrem.exe.
  • Follow the displayed instructions.
if you get rid of starfoce you might not need to reinstall windows.. but you say you tried to install windows 64 but the dics was bad.. this also might of messed up your operating system, so a clean install of windows might be needed.
From what ive read you have messed up windows so a clean install of windows is probably a good way to start..
then fully update windows and then try to reinstall steam and go from there.. and then gtl.
remember you might know what you mean but just saying a clean install.. does this mean windows or steam or gtl..

I really appreciate the interest you're taking, in my problem, Rupe. OK, I checked My Docs and although it shows the User File there it's empty, so OK. I've decided to do a clean install of Win 7, as my last install was a Repair Install after using the bad DVD, and I think I screwed up somewhere, and I see the StarForce files are still popping up, so I'm going to sequester myself for a week or so, bite the bullet, and live on pizza and beer! See you when I'm fully recovered. Cheers....Brian.
