F1 Challenge 99 - 02

Hello all,

I am trying to run the 1961 standalone mod for this game, but it doesn't seem to be working in any capacity. I can do test days by myself around most of these tracks, but when I go into a race the game crashes before loading up the track. I tried using dgVoodo but all that does is mess with the menus and still crashes the game when I go to race. I have compatibility modes on, as well as admin mode, but still can't get it to work. Any tips?

Here is the trace output. I am apparently missing two files:

I just reinstalled F1 Ch 99-02 and am using this EXE file to make it work with Windows 10, 2560x1440, etc. etc.

Does anyone have a list of changes to make to text files to improve the game? I know lots of improvements can be made from editing various text files such as PLR, SCN, CAM, RCD, TBC, damage.ini, HDV, engine.ini, etc.

How do I stop all the graphics LOD pop-in? On replay mode when the car is not too far away, I can see the LOD changing as the car comes closer to me. I have an i9-11900K, an RTX 2080 Ti, and 32GB of fast RAM, I don't need different LODs. I want all objects to be full quality LOD at all times no matter how far away they are from me. Do I have to change the ClipPlanes or LODMultiplier in each circuit's CAM file?

Can I improve mirror graphics from simply editing a text file (like mirror resolution) or do I have do download a file?

Where can I find a list of mods that improve the regular game? I want to keep the gameplay "experience" fairly close to default/vanilla but I want to improve it where I can (like textures, lighting, trackside objects, sounds, AI, etc.).

Hello! I will try to answer all your questions as best as I can.

I use SublimeText to edit text files

PLR -> Can be edited with notepad. CMT 2020 has the PLR files optimized. You can download that mod here: https://kcarloscampos-cmt.crearforo.net/t12-f-1-challenge-2020-season-by-constrictor-modding-team

SCN -> Can be edited with NotePad. Here is a full tutorial for it (most of its points works for F1C) https://www.endless-resources.org/index.php?topic=3.0

CAM files -> These are edited with Guitarmen's rFactor AIW Cam Editor. You can download it here: https://easyupload.io/0vay2k (link expires in 30 days)

I know how to make CAM files but I cannot explain how :(

RCD files -> Can be edited with Notepad. The group I shared before (CMT) is working on all F1 1950-2021 using statistics and math formulas. You can have an idea of their final result playing races in CMT 2020 prefinal.

Physics file -> To make them with precision and know-how, you need an engineering background, knowledge about Tom's Engine Shop, Formula One books, and advanced knowledge in Excel, as well as an application called SuspEdit2. Nevertheless, if you want to try... http://yoss.free.fr/rfactornfr/Modding_Tutorial_Website/PhysicsGlossary.shtml
You can always try the basic stuff, such as fuel capacity, the weight of the car, gears of the car, etc.

How do I stop all the graphics LOD pop-in?

Search for all the GEN files.

Every word you see ending in -FWB.mts, -FWC.mts, -FWD.mts, -FWS.mts, change it to -FWA.mts (except shadow)

Example with CMT 2020:

Can I improve mirror graphics from simply editing a text file?

You just need a mirror.bmp file with higher quality on Vehicles folder. That's all. ;) https://easyupload.io/i3j01d (link expires in 30 days)

Before continuing on answering your last question, I will tell you about the nature of the lods in this game. Lods are applied for multiple reasons:

1. Game quality. You probably perceive this as a contradiction, but all games apply LODs so reduce polygons the farther it the distance from a certain position of view. When developing a video game, forcing everything to maximum quality is an unforgivable mistake. I can speak for it because I work at a video game company. In the case of F1 Challenge, this is even more pressing, because in the F1 Challenge, the fewer the number of polygons, the higher the performance. And the FFB ratio is directly proportional to the amount of FPS the game is at. So, fewer polygons = a higher sensation of realism thanks to a higher FFB ratio. Image Space Incorporated (the people behind F1C) regarded F1 Challenge as a physics simulator. Also, VAs in F1C has about 2000 polygons (FWA and RWA about 500), which means that having 3d models of chassis and wings on par with the original is considered standard quality in this title. If you low a 400.000 polygon car to 2000 in F1C, that quality reduction is not low quality in F1 Challenge in objective terms.

2. Leeching. Reducing polygons and quality standardization of textures and models deters people from leeching in F1C, as the quality will be bad for simulators such as rFactor2, Assetto Corsa, Race07, among others. Luckily, lowering the quality to its standard s not equal to low quality. When it comes to textures, 1024x1024 resolution textures should be applied only to the chassis. Textures below 1024x1024 are acceptable in F1 Challenge '99-'02, but in today's sims, it's another story. The original game uses 1024x1024 textures very sparingly, only on vehicle models, other areas of the chassis, and specific terrain areas of a circuit.

3. FPS. There are many people from South America that play this game. So, many of them focus on making the mod playable for them, which is difficult to achieve for some of them due to their PC equipment. Not my case (I have an expensive laptop). I play only F1C for the reasons I wrote time ago in this post.

Where can I find a list of mods that improve the regular game?

An experience fairly close to default... I'm sorry, I don't know any. Anniversary is the closest but his mods are private.

Thank you so much! I will go through all that information this weekend :)

Do you know how to use higher resolutions? The most I can use (thanks to the download I linked to above) is 2560x1440 but I'm looking for triple-screen: 7680x1440 or 7780x1440.

Hum, perhaps this one?

I need to ask Evilclip to add all his functionalities to these EXE files. The resolution you want is possible to do but since CMT's config doesn't work, the SG needs updates and I don't have triple screen, I don't know how to get it :(

Maybe there is an app that forces a resolution.

Another potential solution could be something like this: http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=13318

P.D.: will try a new idea and send you in private if I succeed.

Great, thanks. I tried the EXE and 3DConfig file from that Matrox site but it still doesn't give me anything beyond 2560x1440. I'll keep trying, thanks!

I was testing the 1999 Minardi in F1 Challenge 99-02 and hitting 285 km/h on the main straight at Barcelona with the engine rev limit at the lowest (15,600 RPM). I then raised the engine rev-limit to the maximum (16,600 RPM) and the car barely hits 278 km/h. What is happening? Is this a bug?

Once you know something about getting the triple resolutions ready I'd take that info as well on how to get it running. Recently upgraded to 1080p triples, but don't get high enough resolutions in the 3DConfig sadly.

2. Leech. Reducing the number of polygons and standardizing the quality of textures and models keeps people from leeching in F1C, as the quality will be poor for simulators such as rFactor2, Assetto Corsa, Race07 and others. Fortunately, lowering quality to standard does not mean poor quality. For textures, textures with a resolution of 1024x1024 should only be applied to the body. Textures below 1024x1024 are acceptable in F1 Challenge '99 -'02, but in modern simulators it's a different story. In the original game, 1024x1024 textures are used very sparingly, only on car models, other parts of the chassis and certain terrain on the track.

3. FPS. This game is played by many people from South America. Thus, many of them focus on making the mod playable for them, which is difficult for some of them to achieve due to their computer hardware. Not my case (I have an expensive laptop). I only play F1C for the reasons I wrote about recently in this post .

Where can I find a list of mods that enhance the regular game?

The experience is pretty close to the standard ... Sorry, I don't know. The jubilee is closest, but his fashions are private.

Hi Christian!

(I apologize for the early, because I use Google translation)
Thanks a lot for the explanations and links to the files. I am using the original game alongside dgVoodoo. I have several questions for you:
1. You write "Search all GEN files". The question is, how many are there in the original game? I found 2 files with this extension: 1-Generic_F1.gen and 2-Unique_Logo_Suspension.gen in the C: \ F1 Challenge 99-02 \ SeasonData \ Vehicles folder

2. You write "Every word you see ending in .......... ( except shadow )" But in the max quality FWing and RWing screenshots the SnadowObject strings are also changed, and in the SlotID screenshot the SnadowObject strings are not changed. It's right? I made changes in these 2 * .gen files as indicated in the "max quality" screenshots. FPS dropped a little, the response also decreased a little, but the quality of the cars does not change, this is very beautiful: thumbsup:

3. I copied the file mirror.bmp to the C: \ F1 Challenge 99-02 \ SeasonData \ Vehicles folder, but now only in the upper corner I see this very small mirror. How to fix it?

Hi!

1. You only need to modify GenericF1.gen, because that's the gen file referenced by all the VEH files.

2. Hum, change RWD to RWA; VD, VC, and VB to VA; and change FWD to FWA. Don't change FWS and RWS.

FPS and response drop a little because you are using the A models only, which makes the game more "heavier". Since you have changed the VX, FWX and RWX in such a way that you only see the max quality models, you should see only them regardless of the distance. If you apply the change to the shadow, it will cause CTD probably. Shadow eats a lot of FPS so modders create a shadow as light as possible.

3. Sorry if it doesn't work for you. Delete it then! In F1C Multiplayer Discord someone made another mirror that has greater quality than the original F1C. Ask just in case, maybe they will help you.

Why do changes have to be done to all the .mts lines in all the GEN files. Can't we just raise the LOD multiplier in the CAM file?

You can do it that way too, but you have to modify 17 CAM files instead of just 1 GEN file.

There's something wrong with the engine files in F1 Ch 99-02. Most cars loose power at higher revs. For example, I'm fastest with the 1999 Minardi with the rev limit set to the minimum. Increasing the rev limiter only makes you slower which doesn't make sense. I checked the engine.ini files for many cars and it's like this for every car I checked.

In F1 of those years, cars would be faster with more power the higher they revved their engines but it would increase the chances of engine failure so they would rev their engines the highest during qualifying or if desperately needing extra power in the race. In F1 Ch 99-02 it's the opposite, the engines loose lots of power at max revs and it's better to keep the rev limiter and the lowest

How can I correct this? I have the engine.ini file open in the rFactor physics editor. Increasing the power numbers isn't that difficult but I have no idea what numbers to use for compression and torque...

1. Yes, there it is.

You can see what to do here: https://wookey.forumotion.com/t632-new-rules-of-the-forum-new-members-please-read

And here: https://wookey.forumotion.com/t1203...ow-us-why-we-should-add-you-as-a-member#60095

I recommend you to be part of the forum ONLY if you are an active modder, otherwise, the forum will throw you out eventually. The forum only allows active members compromised with something (mostly with uploading F1 pictures actively, being an active modder in F1C or rFactor). Some people wanted to help the modders just giving money, but most of the time they reject and prefer to have more modders.

Another major reason to restrict registration was this: https://wookey.forumotion.com/t510-about-assettocorsamods-org-sim-dream-development

A member called Luigi70 suffered leeching. Along with the inactive members that only registered but do not mod or collaborate uploading pictures, the idea of disallowing registration come to fruition and became a reality later.

2. I can do one for you (with all race by race variants) but my time is very limited (oppositions). Fixing and reupdating AIWs takes time (hours, even days for circuits such as Monaco). I will consider to do an effort if I see activity from you.

You can start downloading the vanilla game and proceed to install this to begin with:

1. Yes, installing the EXE which patches the whole mod.

2. https://easyupload.io/1ne2a3 (Link will be deleted in a week)

You can see the whole repository and editing tools here: https://f1challenge9902repository.blogspot.com/ (14 GB download).

To both:

I was a moderator of Wookey's forum but I am not currently retired due to job reasons. I cannot open the door. Alfredo can. If you are not active as modders in F1C or don't want to be modders, don't bother to ask for registration since the forum is dedicated to content creators. It just better not be registered and download all their stuff for play. The forum only benefits modders and from a player perspective, you can download all their work equally (except private links like 1959 mod), registered or not.

Ask OLarrauri (Alfredino OLarrauri in FB) if you are interested to enter.

Alternatives:

Go to F1 Challenge VB or Constrictor Modding Team (both on Facebook). VB is oriented to VB players and CMT is oriented for modders who want to mod CMT.
Does anybody still have the "shadow fix"?

After changing the GEN files and adding the mirror in vehicles folder, my game crashes to desktop (CTD) when it's about to load a track. The loading screen goes all the way to the end and then CTD... I deleted the mirror file but it's still happening...
