I would like to make a few modifications to this to fit more to me but i really like the base

I could try to do something, you would like to get the same colors and add a couple of sponsors logo on it.

do you use the 3d model for photoshop? i would like to know how far the black strip extends as i may want to put my flag on it

never been a fan with a plain color wing.... you cant paint it with the overall design of the helmet ?

Yeah sure I can!
Its a bit more work because its a different layer and it has to be perfectly aligned, but it can be done.

use the 3d model to lign up everything, dont do that by hand. i mean you know you can create a layer above the 3d model and merge it on the 3d model and the '' design '' the ''line'' you have merge will be apply on the 2d texture ?
