The final developer diary for F1 2018 is here, just 3 days before the official release of the latest Formula One game from Codemasters.

This is set to be the final developer diary video release from Codemasters prior to the title dropping on console and PC in just a couple of days time, and focusses on the art and audio side of the racing game currently preparing for release this August 24th.

According to Codemasters, the new game is a considerable step forward in the graphics department over previous releases, "utilising physically based rendering to improve the overall look and feel of the game and get it as close to reality as possible". This is certainly proven out in the time I've had with F1 2018, as I believe the title is an impressive improvement from early versions and shows a very nice little attention to detail with things such as the underfloor sparks and dusty off line track surface.. all positive little touches that add to the overall atmosphere of the title.

“The biggest win visually is in the atmospherics,” said F1 2018’s Art Director, Stuart Campbell. “This year we’ve got a full atmospherics system that gives you a greater sense of depth from the scene, and it makes for some really stunning vistas.”

Stuart continued: “One of the most iconic things for me about F1® as a sport is seeing that heat haze on the start straight: the heat rising from the track and from the engine exhausts, and in the mirage effect that you see reflecting in the track. We’ve added a full heat haze and mirage system to our visual effects for this year, and it makes a huge difference in the replay cameras and on track when you’re racing.”

....Dear RaceDepartment....
I really enjoy the website, and the work done (and well done) by the guys engaged in...
...but....
....the more i take a look on articles and comments, the more I'm asking to myself : "what am I doing here ?!"
Probably it's something like a generation way, but I really don't feel in my "home" here, and disagree too much with comments.... of course, some guys are clever and have enough knowledge, but others.....damn....and when i look at titles (Pcars2, F1 2017/2018, AC etc....) for sure, I will no longer come here...
I'm happy to have a premium account : guys does the job, i'm happy to help with a buck or two, but that's the end for me... have a good travel RD

See ya....
Cheers

What i find in the few goes at a codies F1 title, is that they don't simulate a teams advantages, so correct me if i am wrong, but you could fesibly get into a McLaren and win a race?

If that is still the case then its not correct at all.
If it's not the case and the Merc and Ferrari's have the real life advantages...what is the point of either being in a rubbish team or doing 60 laps in front with no action in a Merc or Ferrari?

its not the case, the cars perform pretty much as they would in real life within reason. in that teams do follow a sort of performance hierarchy, and you can see them lining up on grids in pretty much the way youd expect. (as near as damn it in a game version of real life)

but yes you could also choose to be in a "rubbish" team and realistically work at winning through either a career over years improving the parts and tech, or in a race and just tune the ai down to a beatable level.

Why would that be a bad thing? I know we are after realism, but are we also after a situation where we literally have no chance of ever improving, and knowing that from the start? where would the enjoyment be in that?

this is as much fantasy roleplaying as it is simulating, surely?

I guess you could also put your final question to lewis, see if he had a moment of "youre right" epiphany and moved to torro rosso or somesuch, for the bants

But this is my whole point, where is the 'game' in being say Alonso at McLaren? He had enough and he gets paid millions in real life, so why in God's name would anyone want to simulate his time in a McLaren.

Far more 'fun' would be driving all sorts of different racing cars in various series which other sims provide in abundance.

For i am simply asking why anyone would want to do 20 odd races in a McLaren doing 60 odd laps each time?
Like i say i'd rather play Euro truck sim...

It's either scrap around at the back or the middle, or be in a Ferrari or Merc and have a massive advantage.......

Not my idea of a good time unless it was real life and i got the lifestyle and the experience to go with it....
But each to their own.....

they'll play it probably because they like F!, you don't seem to, or this game, which is fine.

BTW you also don't get the lifestyle in AC,Rfactor,Pcars etc.......im not sure that's much of a point, but granted youll probably offset that personally because you prefer one or all of those over this, or whatever your poison is.

I think youre just getting bogged down in the fact that you aren't a fan of the CM f1 series. not to worry. there are plenty that are and at the end of the day, there has been a lot of hard work and polish put into this series whether you want accept it or not, and the people that are into the series, see that and appreciate it.
