Assetto Corsa has today updated to version 1.6 bringing a host of new features alongside pre-Alpha Virtual Reality support and the Japanese DLC Car Pack.

Backed by a sizable changelog perhaps the hot topic of today's new update is the surprise inclusion of the pre-alpha support for Virtual Reality headsets, a move inspired by the recent Kunos community questionnaire asking what features community members wish to see included in the title.

Other notable additions in the latest update includes the new addition of 4 wheel steering courtesy of the Nissan Skyline and Mazda RX7 as well as a work in progress All-Wheel-Drive transmission code.

As well as today's update, Assetto Corsa fans can now purchase the much anticipated Japanese Car Pack which features 7 new Japanese vehicles including the Mazda MX-5 Cup racing car and Nissan GT-R R34 Skyline V-Spec.

Important Notes

How to Use the Oculus CV1 in Assetto Corsa:
Assetto Corsa includes the first pre-alpha support for Oculus for in-game sessions. Run Oculus Home, select “settings”, “general” and enable “Unknown sources”. Then, launch Assetto Corsa: using the launcher, in options/video/display select “Oculus WIP support” as rendering mode. Then, set your favourite driving session, click the start button and put on your Oculus. Once the session is loaded, you can use the mouse pointer to navigate the in-game menu and use and set the apps as you like.

Using Oculus with Microsoft Xbox-One Pad/Steering Wheel:
Regardless of the controller you use with Assetto Corsa, in this version you need a mouse/keyboard to control the GUI and access the ESC menu.

Sounds:
By default, Assetto Corsa does not yet feature sounds through the Oculus headset. To use it, you need to enable the Rift headset in your Windows settings. To do it, right click on the speaker icon (you can find the icon in the bottom-right of your Windows desktop) and set Rift headset as default playing device.

Driver position:
Press CTRL+SPACE to reset the driver position using the Oculus. Using other driving devices, you can reset the driver position pressing look left + look right commands at the same time.

Exposure:
You can reduce/increase the brightness pressing PgUp/PgDn.

Well personally I don't usually care much for road cars but I must admit, this pack has proven to be rather better than I expected.

Had a go at several cars last night on a public server at Nords, very impressive indeed tbh.

The RX7 and Supra proved to be sublime, the turbo noise was out of this world! Had a little try of the Skyline and that was much more straightforward to drive than I expected, but fun still anyway.

Didn't get much time to try the rest, that's tonight's fun!

See you all on the RD public server folks :D

^ That's pretty much the distinction I make... a race car is not usually road legal, has a crash cage, often slicks or at least semi slicks and a fat spoiler.

Also weight reduction, if you want a good indication of the difference between road and race car I recommend going into the showroom and looking at the 2 versions of the Abarth 500.

Just my two cents about the "I don't like road cars" matter.

I don't get it. Might be because I'm a petrolhead or in general I love cars of all sorts and shape but I tend to drive everything I can get my hands (and feet) on. Whenever a friend has a new car I ask "can I drive it?". I mean, isn't it why we love driving sims? Because we love to drive and get to experience as much cars as possible? Heck I love Euro Truck just because I love to drive for hours in traffic and get perfect turns and parking maneuvers... And taming those incredible beasts too okay.. :)
I buy books about all sorts of cars and competitions because I love to know as much as possible about them.
Liking only race cars or prototypes or formula cars is like pretending to run before you have even learned to stand up on your own.
If you like only race cars or in general things that go fast, there are plenty more options avalaible maybe more suitable: Forza, Grid, the old Dirt games. I played and still play those too and they are all great fun :)

@ kunos
Five dollars !!... Are you taking the P*ss ???
You create superb content and then slap price-tags on it as if it were damaged goods !
I really hope you guys know what you're doing and have your sales department making sure you're generating enough revenue for the future of the company ? ....... you do have a sales department, right ?
What about food, are you guys eating ok ?

I really hope steam allows for adding Tips at checkout ;)

Keep up the good work

Huh? Forza, Grid, old Dirt games for racing - maybe arcade racing. I'm a gear head from WAY back, I eat and sleep cars, all I watch is racing and Velocity network but I'm not big on driving street cars "virtually". Forza and Gran Turismo to me are geared more to the road car crowd with some racing thrown in. On the PC my favorites are Automobilista/SCE, R3E, and rFactor2 where racing is the spotlight. AC is OK, my opinion, but they are going too much in the direction of Forza and Gran Turismo which is great for those that prefer those. I'm not saying anything is wrong with that, just explaining why some of us are not into virtual road cars.
If I want to drive normal road cars, I will take my IRL car out on the road (twin turbo BMW) - I've had many performance cars over the years. Many virtual road cars in some of these games wouldn't interest me to drive IRL, why drive virtually. Different strokes for different folks! I have no problem with AC creating virtual road cars, I just don't buy.

I for one I'm glad that atleast one sim has street cars in it. Simply because I have the misfortune of being a car nut born in a country with ZERO car culture, unless you are into piddly three cylinder diesel econoboxes then sure we got a massive scene for those. I rarely if ever see any sports cars here, or will ever own one in my life even if I can buy one because they literally don't exist over here... and on top of that our import laws are so archaic that I'd probably have to end up selling my house if I wanted to import a beater miata (a bit exaggerated for dramatic effect but you get my point). And so the only place I can drive them is in sims, and I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people in my position who like driving cars that they find fascinating and admire. It's all about perspective. Hurr Durr SimRacing Srs Bzns #pretendracecardriver lookatme so high so mighty is all well and good but once again, all comes down to individual opinion... totally pointless in the end. I find street cars just as enjoyable to drive as race cars so I'd like Kunos to keep producing them. I don't think AC is a lesser sim just because it features road cars. And I doubt it's going the direction of Forza/GT just because they released a DLC with street cars as a focus, because last I checked AC as a whole had a pretty even split of race cars vs road cars, and if you consider that like 10 of the 50 odd road cars are various Lotuses/Lotii/Lotus thingies, AC actually has a road car deficit IMO. :)

Those who only want race cars in AC, how many race cars you want or need? 100, 200? Is hypocritical when you see people complain about more road cars in the game when you just want more and more race cars as well. In my opinion a balance is a good way to satisfy both sides.
The purpose of road cars is to enjoy the driving experience, and you can also race them or even drift.
The purpose of race cars? Competition, not to drive around (even though is still enjoyable to solo practice race cars).
So on what reason you say you want more and more race cars? If you just want to collect or simply to have many choices for race cars, you are the same type of player as those who simply want to collect and have many choices for road cars. Serious competition isn't jumping from race car to race car, so why do you want more race cars and less road cars?
I'm happy that Kunos will continue to add both race and road cars, along with good circuits. But this Japanese Pack was more focused towards iconic JDM rides. MX-5 Cup is the cherry on top of this DLC.

I just tried the new cars and as many chances as I gave to AC lately I just can't avoid to feel disappointed.

The game runs and looks really cool, sounds are not the best around but they are decent, yet the cars just feel lifeless, the throttle is just a button with barely any management and the transitions from one side to another are slow like being aboard of the titanic requiring really low reaction times to save any slide or drift. I resist to believe current devs are not aware of it and this is just a choice to make the game more friendly to newcomers.

Either way I'm happy for those who are able to enjoy it.

Yeah... I really want to like the game, but even disregarding the lack of features and things to do, the driving just doesn't feel right to me. I mean, some of the more powerful cars are fun, because there's at least something going on there, but the dynamics just feel dumb down for me.

Maybe we're just to good :p
