Esports on an entirely new level? This is what RENNSPORT is aiming for – the upcoming sim project promises a completely different approach compared to most other racing simulators. Focusing on competition first and foremost, a completely fresh start wants to achieve maximum realism.

Munich-based Competition Company has been working quietly on the upcoming sim since 2020 and now made its efforts public. According to the RENNSPORT website, an entirely different approach is meant to lead the sim to success: “Starting from scratch, technological advancement and modern software architecture enables us to take the next step in virtual racing experiences.”

Esports​

This is supposed to have its roots in the approach to esports already: A competition system is supposed to reward sportsmanlike behavior and competition spirit. Also, RENNSPORT is going to feature a base for broadcasts, including tools for interaction with the audience and streaming.

Mod Support​

Additionally, the community is going to be another focal point – “Real Digital Ownership” is one of the core principles in this regard, encouraging modders to use RENNSPORT as a platform. “Your assets will be owned by you. And you can trade them through the marketplace of your choice.” Individual tracks and vehicles are mentioned specifically, another toolkit to promote community creations is planned as well.

BMW and Porsche​

Speaking of vehicles: In BMW and Porsche, two famous manufacturers that have increasingly active in esports are already on board with the sim, meaning they have a leg up on marques like Mercedes-AMG who are absent thus far. The RENNSPORT website displays screenshots of the Porsche 991 II GT3 and the BMW M4 GT3 at the Hockenheimring.

RENNSPORT is set to use the Unreal Engine 5. Regarding the physics model, experts from the automotive industry will be consulted to create a realistic representation.

Closed Beta​

While the announcement came seemingly out of nowhere, RENNSPORT is not far from a playable state: Already in summer of 2022, a closed beta is supposed to start to prepare the sim for an open beta phase in early 2023. The sim is being developed exclusively for the PC.

Funny they just call it Rennsport... i guess it sounds cool (specially for non german speakers) like Rauh Welt etc... :D

Looks very interesting indeed and potentially quite exciting. But then again bold claims & marketing blurb can add the brightest glitter to the runniest of turds. (I was seriously pumped for NASCAR 21 Ignition.) Finger crossed this actually delivers though!
 
To me it sounds like they want to protect modders and avoid ripping. But I'm not sure how they will achieve it (or if they will at all)
Avoid ripping to other platforms is not possible. But they can avoid having people taking modders work and distributing for free to be used in the same platform. Just do like RaceRoom (always online required).

About this "sim". If I see "realistic physics but fun to drive" and "focus on esport and community"... to the trash bin it goes.

For a sim to have half a chance against the established ACC (and a German-made one at that), they'll absolutely have to acquire the VLN/Nordschliefe license that ACC lacks.

Of course, it'll be interesting to see what UE5 beings to the table, and how Kunos will react to that. Will AC2 (and a future ACC update) be forced to adopt UE5 to stay competitive, after saying they aren't leaning that direction? The screenshots look beautiful, and UE5 should have improved VR performance (which ACC desperately needs).
 
I am really excited for this. I just hope that the physics of this sim are not like GT7 or Forza Motorsport. And has VR support of course..

That part about content ownership smells like NFT crap. So, yeah, I don't have high hopes for this sim.
 
Using unreal engine 5 can really be a big plus. Particularly with the nanite technology which allows to no longer use LOD on 3d objects which should allow detailed circuits like never before without requiring crazy power. The use of the new CHAOS tool can also be a plus, especially for crash management.

I like the sound of new physics engine and not using anything already existing. Just because more physics engines is always better. Not sure if ue5 in its early state is the best platform for racing sim tho.
 
Well, best of luck! More competition in the field is always welcomed! Sounds interesting to me, but they should remember the realistic physics engine is #1, #2 & #3 in importance :) Everything else pales in significance...

At the end of the day, the more options, the merrier. It's particularly rare to see a new sim racing franchise start up these days. Exciting times. I just pray it has decent VR support – the UE5 usage scares me a little...that said, KartKraft uses UE and its VR is fine so there is hope.
