New Formula 1 car coming to Automobilista 2

New Formula car AMS2.jpg
Reiza Studios have teased the latest addition to Automobilista 2 on Twitter. The images appear to show a 2022 Formula One car, there’s no mistaking the shape of the rear wing, or flares above the front wheels - this is definitely a ground effect Formula One car.

If you’ve been living under a rock, you may not know that the regulations for Formula One have had a massive overhaul.

With previous regulations, a following car would lose 35% of their downforce when racing within 20 metres of the car ahead. That loss of downforce could increase to 47% if the following car got within 10 metres of the car ahead.

The bodies of these cars are cleaner which means the aerodynamic grip has been lessened, however a lot of downforce has been gained back by channelling air underneath these cars.

From what we’ve seen over the first two races, the regulations appear to work, it is easier for cars to follow and so we should see closer racing in 2022.

We aren’t expecting any licensed cars, this will most likely be a F-class car and will sit somewhere around AMS2’s current F-Ultimate car - which are based on the 2019 F1 car.

What are your thoughts? Are you excited to try the latest generation of F1 cars in AMS2?

Look man, if you're asking this question you don't have AMS2.
So buy it on Steam, 18.49 euro for now, it's 50% off, you have two hours to test it, or download the free demo. You're not risking your life like that, are you? ;-)
Frankly it's a marvel, especially if you have a VR headset and, I hope for you, a steering wheel (it seems that with an AMS2 controller sucks)!
Because in VR with a steering wheel, there is no comparison, it's the best car simulation in the world! To me! :)
What a pleasure! I'm going to do a new race soon!
PS, yes there is DRS in AMS2!
It's actually properly devised too, with DRS zones and gets taken away with rain.

In my experience, the feeling between AM2 and the Codemasters F1 series is almost the same. From my own experience (F1 (Renault) experience) I find that AC and rFactor2 are more similar to reality when it comes to Formula cars.
I'd love to know just exactly what your actual 'Experience' was when you decided to compare all of the Open Wheel cars in AMS2 to the F1 games car.

I mean, I have played every single F1 game from 13' to 21' and I have amassed more then 2k hours on PCARS 2 and have been playing Open Wheel cars on AMS2 since it came out and I can tell you that none of the cars on AMS2 come even close to what they are like on F1 games. Not even close!

I have to believe that you either are using a controller instead of a wheel and, or, you are using Aids galore and have all kinds of Stability and Traction controls on.

Just doesn't make sense at all!

Also, how can you say the F1 Cars on AC feel more realistic? Have you ever driven an actual F1 Car?

I've spent about 1500 hours in AMS2 and just about 5 minutes with the F Ultimate since I find cars like that boring unlike most other F1-cars in the game, but being more close to Codemasters F1 might be actually more authentic.

I was watching some YouTube-videos with allegedly F1-cars in iRacing and rF2 from people like Michi Hoyer and Ermin and obvious to me at least, that they are not doing it like the real F1-drivers with their typical "slow" in, fast out approach going on the throttle at the apex, but more like FWD-touring-car technique taking more speed through the corner, but late on the throttle after the apex when the car is almost straight to the exit and with lots of trailbraking, never mentioned by Nico Rosberg in his videos. If this would be faster in real life, we would see this, but I only see this approach in touring-car onboards. For me this looks ridiculously wrong and super obvious as well. My last F1-game was F1 2016 and didn't like it for other reasons, but from what I've seen in later F1-videos, the general driving approach seems more reasonable.

AMS2 isn't perfect either and IMO the rear tyre-slip is too tame atm and was better in older versions, but generally if you have problems driving a car in AMS2, just watch the real onboards carefully and learn, because that's generally the right approach.

Not bashing ams 2 as i think its going in the right direction and new content is always great but have to say that the physics is def not nailed yet. Will be interesting to see how the new gen F1 ground effect cars drive in regards to porpoising because some of the formula cars of ams2 already have way too much bouncing for my liking
So just to elaborate on my comments about the physics of ams2, it was based purely on how some of the formula cars in particular behave. Theres lots to love about ams2 and has aspects to it that it does great depending on what style of car your driving. There are some areas where it still needs work to make it more consistent across the board to which I'm sure they will in time as they continue to improve it but in its current state it isnt perfect, no sim is.

I guess assumptions are easy to make. I have been a day one owner. Some very small investigation would have also showed you that I weekly organise ams2 races on RD. Join us tonight with the M1 procar on Monaco for some fun racing. Check Racing club for info.
