Most Played Racing Games On Steam In December 2023

Most-Played-Racing-Games-Steam-December-2023-Automobilista-2-Biggest-Gain-576p.jpg
The final month of the year tends to come with more spare time for many sim racers, and 2023 seemingly was no different. Here are the most played racing games on Steam in December 2023.

Note: While iRacing is available on Steam as well, its numbers are not representative as most players acces the sim through its own UI. As a result, its statistics are not included in this article.

Once again, the order at the top of the list remains largely unchanged. Only F1 23 has left its place in the top five, dropping down to seventh overall, behind SnowRunner and Need For Speed Heat. Like many titles, the latter two saw an increase in player numbers in December, likely in part due to the holidays.

The same is true for BeamNG.drive, which keeps its top spot with the most average players over the course of the month. However, the highest peak went to Forza Horizon 5, which still sits in second. Assetto Corsa stays on the final step of the podium, albeit with a healthy margin to the top two.

Looking at the percentage of average players gained, Automobilista 2 stands out as the most improved sim racing title. Despite the big Le Mans update only dropping on New Year's Eve, the title had 44.34% more average players than back in November. The January 2024 numbers for AMS2 should be a good indicator for how many of these players have stuck around, then. The biggest improvement percentage of all games goes to Need For Speed Unbound at 47.91%.

Meanwhile, in its second month since release, EA Sports WRC has lost a considerable amount of players. The title may have seen the addition of the Central European Rally, but the update that introduced it also broke the Career Mode for many players. The ongoing issues with the title likely do not help player counts.

I fear for Raceroom, I was hoping after their update more people would play. But alas...maybe its time for Raceroom 2 or something else from KW studios?
It drives well after update, not a revolutionary jump but improvement, but that alone is not good enough to trade dated visual presentation and lack of weather, day/night cycle for other titles.

FM2023 was a bit of a disappointment overall, the thing is, it drives really well, physics no more dumbed down than some pretend to be sim titles from the list, in some areas even better.
But without other sim features it's just like lipstick on a pig, making it stuck in between two categories of audiences, hard core sim racers and Forza Horizon arcade crowd.
Plus with dumb battering AI and lackluster campaign, single player gets boring very quickly. Visuals are not that impressive either for 2023.

EA WRC will get there as soon as campaign that got broken for some after recent update got fixed. Overall it's a step up from DR 2.0 (unless you face issues like stuttering and crashes, which seems like not a universal thing, but still there for some).

People appreciate all of that and they use the content that they want and don't care about the platform that provides them the features that they want.
Respectfully, I think you missed my point (which I was quite blunt about)...
If we don't support current devs, don't move with the times, and don't financially support our industry, then it will die and you won't have anything other than AC to keep modding for the rest of time. This is the big picture here...

I did like the rollout of the RR tyre model though... Felt polished in comparison to other tyre model update releases...

Completely agree about Forza... That tyre model is a massive jump for them... I'd love to see a sim focussed company work on that engine and tyre code... Was a really nice surprise for 2023... But without in car brake bias adjustments and the many other sim features it's missing it's just not worth putting much time into...

News is what you make it :coffee:
Like guide to AMS2 DLC or best 10 tracks in AC or most immersive Rally.
My opinion, none of this sort of thing is news, just space filling.
No offence.

What really amazes me if the roles were reversed and rF2 came out with a Lemans DLC before AMS2 released their Lemans sim there would be outrage.

Reward alright, for stabbing another studio in the back.

:roflmao:
rF2 HAS Le Mans in it and we have been saying for eons why don't you pack it into a tidy package, click and go Le Mans - it's all there and has been for years. Instead, the content is being polished, improved and re released as a new game. Thank goodness it's in AMS2, we can turn on the PC and play it without fannying around. What is your obsession with slamming AMS2? It's puzzling to watch someone twist everything into a diss. Did AMS2 steal your girl? Come on dude, we all love sim racing, at least pretend to be reasonable.

You are total ignorant, if you had any clue and went through all the posts I ever made for AMS2 you will see where I also praise it for things ...like for instance I said put rF2 tyres and physics in AMS2 and imho you could have the best sim ever. lol ?
Please explain to me how that is anything but reasonable ?

I also told people if you like AMS 2 or any other sim that's all that matters ?
I have always talked about many things in rF2 need improving and fixing ?
The thing about rF2 baggers that is all they do, they never compliment anything.

Todays world you must like everything, food, music, art , games , fireworks or there is something wrong with you. Brainwashed by mobile phones and social media.
No one is allowed free will anymore. :x3:

Very simple, hit the ignore list that is what it is for.

Oh oh and the big diffrence is ? You make it personal. I never do.

P.S. The picture I put for RaceRoom comment was a joke, lol, lighten up.

" I financially support all steam sims"

Sim racing tribalism is lame...

I got caught up in it at the start of last year and am regretting being a one sim person...

They all have their weak points and bugs... The key is to find one that makes the most sense to you or just enjoy the content that you enjoy from each title...

And of course just take other peoples opinions as opinions... It's just a video game at the end of the day... Some people like Dark Souls and some people like Yoshi's story... Some even like both... All that should matter is if you have fun...
