GTR Is Set For A Revival

GTR Revival.png
For those who have been around sim racing since the early 2000’s, the GTR series of titles are ones which are firmly etched on the brain.

For many, they are the titles that launch them into the world of sim racing in the first place. From GTR and GTR 2 through to GTR Evolution, the titles stood for realism and brought the world of FIA GT racing into our homes.

Join the conversation in the new GTR Revival forum here

For the last several years, there have been rumours, speculation and the occasional screenshot regarding a proposed GTR 3. However, these have been few and far between and have since dwindled into the background once more.

Today, an announcement has appeared which is completely out of the blue. @Ian Bell once head of Slightly Mad Studios and part of the original GTR development team, tweeted the news that he is working on a new title; GTR Revival.

Not only that, there are several other members of the original development team involved too including; Stephen Viljoen, Andy Garton, Stephen Baysted, Henrik Roos, Johan Roos and Vik Klomiets.

As far as the sim itself is concerned, there are no specific details just yet, but Ian Bell has promised that it will be a hardcore, no compromise title.

Will this be the GTR sequel that we have all been waiting for? Share your thoughts with us below as we await more information on GTR Revival.

(This is a developing story, more soon)

Updates

  • RaceDepartment asked Johan Roos (ex-Simbin) for a quote if the above tweet is true and he replied: "Well I do not deny it but cannot comment any further than Ian already has written and that it sounds like one hell of a game by one hell of a crew".

The ModDev module in rF2 can show lift and drag & HP etc etc. There was a similar, albeit closely guarded app for rF1/GTR2 that was only handed out to experienced modders. Plus rF1 had many math examples explained the various files like the HDV. People who knew could generate very realistic values. Others, like me, would take official cars with similar traits and use the data as a baseline.
Interesting, now thats a decent answer

So, in other words, data correlation used like proving point for a commercial simulator is just like pis.......g in the wind, nothing more than marketing stunt or modders self promotion
So according to you... how is that any different than a developer coming into a forum and talk about the madness engine?

""Im a developer, the earth is square, you will believe everything I say""

Oh thats laughable, yet another AC fanboy arrogant to the core, that knows nothing about me, who do i know, or my work in simracing.

Yes, you better indeed stop, before you either get humbled down, or we get yet another thread derailed by some AC fanboy that dies in it's "simulation value" hill.
Physics are all AC fanboys have at this point given that it has awful AI and lacks plenty of features to properly simulate a motorsports race so it's not good online either!

AC is a one trick pony (and also had completely busted aero physics for like three years that no one noticed until Pretend Race Cars brought it up).

So Austin's vlog... credible source

I'll believe it when I see it. Until then it doesn't exist. I love the GTR series and Gt Legends. Simbin did an amazing job back in the day. Too much crap has been talked about over gtr either having a sequel or now a revival. At this point just let it die and do something else.

Can I point out that Ian Bell is a member here on RD and personal attacks are against our ToS Board Rules.
Also, regardless of how you views the games he's been involved with both as a modder and developer, he's been a significant contributor to our little corner of the gaming world.

Let's say that as long as we are chatting the level will be chatting. When I see the facts, that is, a shred of gameplay or rather a playable demo, maybe I'll believe it. In fact I'll believe it when it comes out on Steam ... :sneaky::sneaky:

Well, I'm hoping the 'Revival' bit reffers to the Goodwood Revival, because I honestly believe that there's just no room for yet another (same old, same old) GT3 and GT4 sim race game, it's been done beyond boredom and even death itself.

So, please, whichever of the gods are the real one/s make this Sim simulate Historics with all their screaming and thunder, and include a scratch and sniff Castrol R card for the first 1 Million buyers.

Other requirements are... Must be modable, and must be designed for the PC first and formost (that way we'll have a mouse).
And... must, simply must have primary Offline single player mode with the strong option of LAN and online server/club racing.

Having outlined if not the impossible then the extreamly improbable I will now take my medication.... Nursie!

Yup, LAN, Triple Screen and VR support.

LOL, this is comedy gold.
He's pretty disrespectful to those whose work makes this a place to visit. Ok, lots of mods aren't studio level but plenty are close enough and fill in some amazing content gaps I can't see studios going for. Thank you modders.

Modding in SimRacing is greatly overrated, the quality is rare... not worth the huge time investment required to do it properly.
Well, that that is a big thank you to all the great modders out there, the time they have invested in creating mods and the people who love to use these mods !!!
