Gran Turismo 7 Confirmed for PlayStation 4 and 5

The next title in the massively popular Gran Turismo series will come to both the 8th and 9th generation PlayStation consoles.

Sony has confirmed through an unrelated press notice that its decades old Gran Turismo series will receive a seventh instalment on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.

The PlayStation 4 has only received one Gran Turismo title to date, unlike the previous PlayStation consoles which had two each. Gran Turismo Sport has been a massive success for Sony and Polyphony Digital, and still enjoys nearly 200,000 concurrent players five years after its release. While Sony has passed the 10 millions units sold mark for their PS5 console, many consumers are still on wait lists and facing frustrations in getting their hands on the 9th Gen console.

The news about the dual console release for GT7 is a relief for some, and disappointing for others. PS4 owners who are unable or unwilling to buy the latest Sony console can take comfort in the fact that they’ll be able to enjoy GT7 with their current hardware. However, those racing game and racing sim enthusiasts that paid for a new console for the purpose of enjoying the new Gran Turismo title could be left feeling disappointed that their previous hardware may have sufficed.

Although no details have been released yet for the differences between the PS4 and PS5 versions of Gran Turismo 7, the likely scenario is that Sony is able to take advantage of the 9th Gen hardware and run GT7 at a consistent 4K / 60FPS or higher.

With a release date planned for 2022, Sony and PD have been slow to share details and footage from the game to date. While GT Sport was initially released as a multiplayer only racing title, with the focus being on online racing rather than the single player campaigns of its predecessors, the naming of Gran Turismo 7 suggests a return to the career and single player focus. GT Sport has grown into an impressive single player title, but much of the attention paid to GT Sport is still focused on the massive online racing community, and the international tournaments and world championships.

We asked you recently which title got you into sim racing, and Gran Turismo was referenced numerous times. Let us know whether you plan to own Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 when it is released next year.

There is no need for a PS5 to deliver what GT7 should deliver on gameplay because, drivewise, GTS on PS4 still powned by Enthusia and Dirt to Daytona on PS2.

I don't understand why it remains a PS exclusive. Apparently the people who make it don't seem to know that most of those who are interested in their product, are not console game players. They have a good PC which is full of SIMULATORS. I bet if GT came to PC, it would sell a LOT more.

Gran Turismo Sport sold 10 million copies. I don't think they would sell more than 1 million additional copies with a PC release.

GT Sport by itself has sold a lot less than that. These 10 "million" copies you're talking about are the ones sold as a bundle with the console. GT has always been sold as a bundle with PS.

Simracing on a phone is the pure experience. Those are true simracers. The rest are merely gamers

I am waiting for GT7. We lack simcade/more serious arcade racing games to enjoy with gamepad right now. Won't be buying PS5 anytime soon tho. I am worried about FM8 as all Xbox One era games were downgrade in many ways from FM4. GT Sport detroyed FM7 IMO (despite having worse tire model, overall physics and chase camera movement - for me it's really important while playing with a gamepad). I just hope that GT7 will include more classic touring cars and JGTC/Super GT cars, build on current penalty and ranked systems and force Forza to step up its game and listen to core community more.

When the game is so good that it makes people buy a console, that's even better for Sony.

PS4 Pro will likely get 1440p/60 while the base PS4 will be 1080p/60
PS5 will have a quality mode thats native 4k/60 and a performance mode 1440p/unlocked fps or locked 120 if achievable.

At least thats what i am hoping for for PS5 users.
And what a year 2022 it will be when GT7 and the new Forza Motorsport will release, finally a new titans battle, we have not had this for like many many years as to me FM7 and GT Sport were not quite comparable because of their different approach. One was still your classic car collecting and racing game, while the other was more streamlined and tailor made for basically online racing.
Playstation 4 Pro does not support 1440p. Nor does the PS5 it super samples to 4k. back to 1080p not 1440p

Obviously that's not what i said. People buy the console. They don't buy a game that comes with a console. Get it? Some of them buy the bundle because the price is pretty much the same. I know a LOT of people who have bought these PS+GT bundles and haven't even played it ONCE. But i get it, you're the typical GT fanboy and i'm not going to open this argument. You won't understand anyway, Dmy.

Haha I'm a hardcore GT fanboy, well that's what I always called myself but not a fanboy in the true sense, I always knew its flaws. However GTS is absolutely pants, as soon as I get on track I just think someone poke my eyes out. It's all style over substance.

Reg. Sales, many copies were sold at 20 quid and less than 10 quid, they did not sell many copies at full price, that is a bit of a fail and indicates they've lost a lot of their loyal old school base. I got my copy free otherwise I wouldn't have bought it at any cost.

PDI have not made a good game since GT4, nearly 20 years ago. They have no focus , they are no longer making games for the game but tech demos for the car industry. GTsport was not what GT fans wanted, but they were given a game with a different focus. It was always my opinion that the only reason GTsport existed was because PDI are so damn slow and needed to get a game out, they had little content so dreamt up this concept as cover for their snail pace development. I think I have been proven right ( especially on the lack of focus part ) as PDI slowly released cars that had nothing to do with sport or their concept. They started releasing all the premium cars that were un GT5/6.

I feel like GT7 is just GTsport with more content and couple different feature, hence why it will be on PS4 too. I have no faith in PDI to make a good game, they've lost it.

Yeah, I'm such a GT fanboy that I've never owned a single Playstation in my life.

In fact, the player numbers are even higher than the sales numbers: https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-sport-has-sold-an-estimated-8-million-copies/
