F1 22 | EA Confirms New Handling Model, VR & Release Date

For the first time since 2003, a new Formula 1 game is going to be released under the EA Sports banner this year. Excitement ramped up almost immediately when the publisher released a countdown to an official F1 22 announcement - and now, F1 fans have a date to look forward to.

Just like in the years prior, the new F1 game is going to see a release in early July: The announcement video revealed the weekend of the British Grand Prix as the release date, the game is going to be officially out on July 1st and can be pre-ordered now. It is going to be available on PC, PS4/PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.

VR support confirmed

PC users can finally look forward to VR being officially supported in the F1 games for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive devices - something the series had been lacking until now. Also announced were the F1 Life mode, which allows players to "unlock and show off supercars, clothing accessories, and more for the world to see." MyTeam and Career Modes have been confirmed as returning, as well as a two-player split screen mode, Formula 2 and multiplayer modes.

Revised handling model

To align with the drastic rule changes prior to the real F1 season, F1 22 is also going to feature a revised handling model. Sprint races, while already implemented in the actual 2021 F1 season, are going to make their debut in the game as well.

Players who pre-order the game before May 16th will receive a Miami-themed content pack with items to use in the game as the city is set to host a brand-new Grand Prix on May 8th. Meanwhile, the Champions Edition grants players access to the full game three days early, among other pre-order bonuses.

Rivalries Renewed

No further info on the new game has been given, but news should be expected in the coming weeks. Apart from this, the video showed a few phrases centered about a new beginning - likely aimed at both the new regulations and the return of EA Sports as the publisher. Whether or not these were teasers for the actual game remains to be seen - "Rivalries Renewed" as a hint to a rivalry system in F1 22 does not seem too far fetched, however.

For everyone who wants hyper-realistic physics, I'd like to remind you of one thing:

There is not a single person here who could even keep the heat in the tires of a real F1 car.

A completely realistic sim at this level of competition would be undriveable to mere mortals (who didn't start karting at age 6).
This is a bad take. Because of the unrealistic way in which downforce is modelled currently in the codemasters games its actually more difficult to drive at high speed compared to something like assetto corsa formula hybrid

Pray tell, how is downforce modelled in the Codemasters F1 games?

..Or maybe in those games you mention, driving at high speed is just too easy, have you considered that?...

Its not possible. driving f1 car near limit feels more natural and easy in rf2, ac and rre but in f1 games its difficult. In fact during covid pandemic when virtual gp was taking place on f1 2019 the real drivers also stated that the cars were not realistic and more difficult to drive(which is why f1 2020 was easier to drive). That alone tells you all you need to know. If codemasters want to go the sim cade route thats fine but at least make the cars more natural and easy to drive like it is in AC and rf2

stick to the ams 2 version ,of the cars, handle good and the icing on the cake ,the ffb works in the ams2 version, bought the f1 2021 ,on preorder to this day still havent run a race ,because the ffb never worked on my logitech wheel ,and never fix it,instead the patches for seasons, who gives a rat ass about seasons races ,address the elephant in the room the ffb issue
The AMS2 cars that don't work lmao?

Dirt Rally 2 0? Come on man. You're basing the VR space on a comparison to one of the oldest VR Racing Titles on April 22nd, 2022? Besides, there are a few Tweaks for Dirt Rally 2.0 that make the game look marvelous let alone all of the advancements that were made in VR for AC, AMS2 and even MSFS!.

Unsolved?

I use an Intel i7 2600 with a 1080 and Dirt Rally 2.0 runs gloriously so I think your information is a bit old my friend.

You're right there! It would be close even if you ran most settings on Low but your biggest issue isn't going to be System Resources but more so, your 1050. You'd be fine with a 1070 +.
Yes, with the 1080 card it also runs ok (besides the low performance). But WMR with the nvidia 3000 series doesn't work without framedrops (even on the lowest settings) with Dirt Rally 2.

You can read about it here if you don't believe me: https://forums.codemasters.com/topic/69599-using-reverb-g2-constant-dropped-frames/

"As for DiRT Rally 2.0, Windows Mixed Reality isn't supported as mentioned before, so I'm afraid there's no fix planned on our end."

And for that reason the issue is NEVER solved. Now F1 2022 also don't support WMR officially and until now the F1 series from CodeMasters always used the same engine as Dirt Rally 2.0.

Of course I hope that F1 2022 will work, I also have the Reverb G2. But with zero official WMR support I expect that it doesn't work.

The guy was asking if it was a good idea to buy a Reverb G2 for F1 2022. Because of what I described it wouldn't be a smart thing to do. He can better buy a quest 2 or wait until it's released of course, just to be sure.

So is this using Madness engine now?
Not sure I understand what is so funny about this question. I guess it's the "follow the first reaction" stupidity.
They bought Madness, it has VR support, so I'm wondering if they are using it now. I'm curious about what EA can do with it.

Time to buy some EA stock - the 8 people who weren't buying the F1 games due to no VR are going to send F1 2022 to the top of the charts!

I'm not sure they would make a drastic change it would be very time consuming & risky, my understanding is that the series generally sells really well, but who knows.

I've never read such nonsense...

Premium
Not happening, the same way Call of duty is consistently trashed by real life military people and weapons experts but they will never change it because they know what sells , accessibility sells.

Im all for realism, i only play racing sims and mil sims like Hell let Loose because thats what i enjoy but i know im in the tiny minority.
For the vast majority realism is not fun.
This isn't the same thing at all.
People don't buy tickets and fly out to combat zones to watch their favorite sniper shoot people. You can make jokes about the war economy all you want, but this is a sport and people spend thousands of dollars on hardware to mimic the sport.

F1 wants people to spend money on their games and they want their drivers to endorse their driving games. That's hard to do when the drivers think it's a joke and not worth playing.

Are you referencing that terrible Top Gear video where they kept doing really awful cuts between clips and you couldn't see what was going on?
That's been debunked by literal Formula One driving coaches.
If you can get the car off the line without stalling, you can definitely drive it around the course, but at the limit is where you'll have problems.

I don’t think that’s accurate, buddy. If it were, we wouldn’t have Mazepins and Latiffis of this world being able to complete laps and finish races.

I think what you mean is we wouldn’t be able to keep temperatures in real life because our necks would start hurting and we wouldn’t press the brakes fully, thus never running the car at its optimal conditions.

But since our sim rigs don’t replicate those things, I can take every corner at speeds that, yes, would put me at optimal temps in real life.
