F1 22 | EA Confirms New Handling Model, VR & Release Date

For the first time since 2003, a new Formula 1 game is going to be released under the EA Sports banner this year. Excitement ramped up almost immediately when the publisher released a countdown to an official F1 22 announcement - and now, F1 fans have a date to look forward to.

Just like in the years prior, the new F1 game is going to see a release in early July: The announcement video revealed the weekend of the British Grand Prix as the release date, the game is going to be officially out on July 1st and can be pre-ordered now. It is going to be available on PC, PS4/PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.

VR support confirmed

PC users can finally look forward to VR being officially supported in the F1 games for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive devices - something the series had been lacking until now. Also announced were the F1 Life mode, which allows players to "unlock and show off supercars, clothing accessories, and more for the world to see." MyTeam and Career Modes have been confirmed as returning, as well as a two-player split screen mode, Formula 2 and multiplayer modes.

Revised handling model

To align with the drastic rule changes prior to the real F1 season, F1 22 is also going to feature a revised handling model. Sprint races, while already implemented in the actual 2021 F1 season, are going to make their debut in the game as well.

Players who pre-order the game before May 16th will receive a Miami-themed content pack with items to use in the game as the city is set to host a brand-new Grand Prix on May 8th. Meanwhile, the Champions Edition grants players access to the full game three days early, among other pre-order bonuses.

Rivalries Renewed

No further info on the new game has been given, but news should be expected in the coming weeks. Apart from this, the video showed a few phrases centered about a new beginning - likely aimed at both the new regulations and the return of EA Sports as the publisher. Whether or not these were teasers for the actual game remains to be seen - "Rivalries Renewed" as a hint to a rivalry system in F1 22 does not seem too far fetched, however.

I've bought so many of their games, reviews are generaly great but so many things spoil my experiance each year, to be fair, I've probably spent more on their games than anone else and eventually you have to say enough is enough (for me the last one was 2020

I hope what they are calling "new handling model" isn't just the old engine but with the new gen cars.
It seems it isn't just the old engine but with the new gen cars:
we have updated the physics to accommodate the new aero rules and re-worked the tyre model, making the handling more true to life.

The last EA F1 games were actually pretty enjoyable if I remember correctly. I certainly enjoyed them on the original Xbox

I wish F1 would officially get together with iRacing. Would be amazing to see a full F1 endorsement with iRacing.

Even an official F1 historic series would be amazing in iRacing with a mix of all the 70s and 80s cars

As long as they keep making pompous excuses (the world's most pompous simracing company?) for not having the great tracks like Istanbul and Mugello that F1 RACED ON, I am not interested.

– PC VR functionality via Oculus Rift and HTC Vive

Yet again the press release isn't very specific, after the fiasco with Microsoft and their MSFS VR announcement now EA don't make it clear that it'll work on Oculus and WMR headsets, naming specific devices is pointless!

You'll save 10 percent if you order today
The game is not out yet but we ask you to pay

The previews are glowing, so make no mistake
this game is amazing though the screenshots are fake
But check out this gameplay it's a vertical slice
so before you have played it, please put down full price

We love all the fanboys so we ask you to pay,
for our unfinished product that we'll patch the 1st day
It's still bloody broken 6 months down the line
But you got a free skinpack so it all turned out fine.

I trusted the trailer, oh why would they lie?
They gave an xp boost so I just had to buy
This game is atrocious, it should have been free
But I just cannot wait to buy the dlc.

Can't wait to play this one. Finally getting VR support is very exciting. I realize this series gets a lot of flack for being a simcade but personally I find it has one of the most complete single player experiences of any current racing game. As I race strictly offline I can see sinking some serious time in this years edition.

I think they should learn from MotoGP, which has implemented the 2009 season, a classic F1 season in 2006 or 2008 would be a great achievement for EA

Dont need that EA crap :D

AMS2+VR+Ralf1973 F12022 skinpack = we are best friends :)
Good luck recreating the official 2022 calendar!

I mean I also like the handling of the 2022 F1 car in AMS2 but saying it can substitute for an official title with all the tracks, all the correct car models and rules implemented is a stretch.

Let's face it, we don't have any serious F1 sim that is capable of catering all the abovementioned needs. The Codemasters series did many things right regarding the tracks, car models, rules and the whole atmosphere thing but the handling is sub-par compared to any other real sim. Let's be cautiously optimistic in this case.

Hella Casino-game. Hehe. MTX, NFTs, etc etc. EA pouring and stirring in the Codies-bucket.
