Could Project Cars 4 be on the way?

Could Project Cars 4 be on the way_.jpg
Ian Bell the former Slightly Mad Studios CEO has tweeted today “If PCars 4 is awesome it was all me. If it isn't. I left 6 months ago”

This is the first time Ian Bell who left Slightly Mad Studios 6 months ago has mentioned Project Cars 4 in over a year and yes it’s not much, but you could assume that he knows what’s going on with the PCars 4 project.

It’s been two years since Project Cars 3 came out, the third instalment in the Project Cars franchise didn’t go down well with fans of Project Cars. The first two Project Cars titles were hardcore sim racers and though they had their flaws (as do all sims in some way), there was a loyal following.

During the two years since Slightly Mad Studios released PCars 3, the studio was sold to Codemasters and then Codemasters was bought out by Electronic Arts.

Most fans of the franchise would agree that they don’t want another Project Cars 3, however it would be fascinating to see what the madness game engine is capable of on the latest generations of console.

Would you be excited for Project Cars 4?

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I know this feeling. Having preordered both PC1 and PC2 on Xbox, the first 6 months was waiting for patches to fix obvious bugs which should have been spotted by any QA Engineers within the first 10 minutes of playing. The games were both pretty fun though once the bugs were sorted out, and on PC in VR it runs like a dream. I would buy PC4 if its a along the same lines as PC1 and PC2,, however I probably wouldn't preorder unless there was a big incentive to do so. I would probably wait a few months for the bugs to be sorted out.

Shift 2+physics mods is better than any PCars game. All we need is a new version of it, with all it's features and decent physics. How hard can it be?
The only reason i still don't play it is that i built a new PC and i'm too lazy to reinstall and mod it again. Modding is a damn chore.

Do we really need a PC4 when whe have AMS2 ?
Yes.

Bigger development budget = progression elements & presentation on top of a sim racing package.

I won a full distance online IndyCar race on Assetto Corsa not too long ago. Great race. Lots of talented drivers.

Game can't even be assed to show me a clipart of a trophy saying "you did it!", or shot of my car in victory lane like the old Papyrus games from what, 30 years ago?

Just straight back to the pit stall after crossing the finish line, with the brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr of the engine humming in the background.

No team management, no cool livery or driving suit unlocks, no new sponsors acquired that I can slap on my car, no XP bar, no hidden races unlocked, just brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Maybe content manager gives me a printout of the standings that I can DM to my dominatrix friend to show her why I didn't return mistresses' texts.

Bigger budget for a racing sim allows for clipart trophies when you finish a race.

3 is the best game yet since they finally got the physics right compared to 1 and 2 imo, but those negative reviews could result in 4 being just another simulator game... too bad

@Austin Ogonoski
I would not be so quick to claim that those AC sliding behaviors are a product of the inherent elastic modeling. If anything there is quite a bit too little exit grip in vanilla due to missing a combined grip squaring function, although a line for it was added for modders, but is not used in the official content.

Those characteristics have more to do with the thermal behavior than anything IMO. Vanilla doesn't support slip parameter modulation from temperature nor is the thermal behavior very physically consistent anyway. Maybe it is better in SETA.

I'd also like to add that I don't personally think it's very useful to compare "the same car" between two products and make tire modeling judgments from that. More useful is to build a similar parameter set in both engines and compare outputs. If you just compare the AC McLaren to the PC McLaren, you are not comparing the same car at all because the parameters likely diverge significantly and I think the error stack gets out of hand in that case.

After being disappointed countless times by AMS2, I'm ready for this. ACC plus this will be pretty fun to alternate between. Perhaps a bit from 3 and a bit from 2 and a bit from the Shift games with really true to life physics will make it a really great game.

You've been disappointed by AMS2 and you wait for PC4 to quell that disappointment? You sure? :)))

I really liked PC1 and 2 despite the flaws, PC3 just went in a direction I didn't like and I had ACC and AMS2 anyway. Will keep an open mind for PC4, but it'll need to have pit stops and tyre wear back in for me to consider it.

It's a bit absurd to me to see people thinking EA won't interfere with how the game is made and marketed. Expecting it to be the sim we all want it to be seems equally absurd.
EA doesn't make games for niche audiences and we are a pretty niche audience, compared against the sales of even something modestly popular like Grid.

There's a myth that all hardcore sims sell poorly (AC has sold million of copies) and that all "simcades" (blegh) sell well (only the Gran Turismos and Forzas really do). Even beancounters can count beans. PC3, GRID Legends etc. were total failures and the sales reflect that. PC2 and the F202x franchise sold very well even if not perfect all aspects of the simulation.

Makes you wonder what the actual content difference would be for PC4. There was quite the choice for PC2. I'd actually be more receptive to loads of quality fantasy tracks rather than the same old real-life favourites being rolled out again. Pretty sick of Spa, Silverstone etc.

I didn't enjoy PC1
I did enjoy PC2
I didn't enjoy (or even buy) PC3

So surely in that sequence I'm going to enjoy PC4?

With a bit of focus and reigned in ambition - do a few things well rather than too many things unpolished - I'd love to see a successor to PC2. I've given that mantle to AMS2 in my head, but won't say no to another option.

It can only get better... so yes, i like to see PC4! ;)
But yes, wondering how much arcarde we will see and how much sim we can choose... :D

D
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Fool me thrice shame on we....... or something like that
Talking of fools, isn't this post is a day early ?

Who cares....they are Lost, far away from what simracing communities demand, money and great physics could be unite, we need more adult Racing games

I had high hopes for PC1 & PC2 but was disappointed with the amount of bugs and lack of polish, so I gave up on the series and passed on PC3.

I had faith in Reiza when they took a shot at the engine but in it's current state it's suffering from the same issues. They have improved a few aspects of the title but as a game, overall I find it a step backwards from Project cars atm.
Ex. Content variety, career mode, snow/ice, dirt not implemented yet...not even sure if loose surface physics have been enabled?

So highly doubt I'll even blink at PC4, especially if it follows the same path as PC3.....plus, I already own 3 buggy Madness engine title with one holding small hope that it will get sorted before my time is up lol
