I now use AMS2 Content Manager. One click and its done. Much better than trying to manually install Mods.
Just one thing though, I wish there was a way to just upload one specific Mod, rather than having to do them all at the one time.

@Timo Dick I don't believe that manually creating the mods directory is required if you are using AMS2CM.

I tried out AMS2 mods for the first time two days ago and I didn't manually create it - and the created timestamp on it matches when I first used AMS2CM, so it must have done it for me automatically

Right. That's why I tried to clarify it in the subheader. "Modding" is used synonymously for both creating and installing mods. Like "Mod your game" usually means 'get mods to work'. Yet it can also mean 'create your own mods'. As I wrote in the "Notes", this article is WIP by nature and I am going to update it with further and new contents.

I know all my skin packs routinely get ignored in articles like this, but you could at least add my GT4 one as an alternative in your listing? Some might enjoy it.

There was a survey recently on which games members of this site play the most and I think AMS2 was quite high, although AC was in front by a big margin. iRacing was low down the list. So they are just catering to that survey as far as I can see, which seems reasonable?

Whilst content managers seem to be the way of things these days, I suppose I am 'old school' and prefer to do the installing myself. That way I know exactly what is going where and can make any appropriate changes I wish to (removing UI altering mod content in rFactor is a good example). I was hoping the article would tell me if this was possible as a simple operation in AMS2, rather than simply telling me of a CM that will do it.
It's like posting an article on how to change your car's brake pads and then just writing "take it to a service centre"!

That would be more like "ask someone who knows to do it for you". The more accurate comparison for this guide would be "here's a tool you can use to make the job as easy as possible for you"

For the manual way, there's still this video - maybe that could also be implemented into the guide, @Timo Dick?

I've never used mods. Is it safe to do so and which ones are the most reputable? I kind of like many of the Project Cars 2 tracks and would love to add them!

I remember seeing a similar article some while ago in here. Honestly I was hoping this new one would be any different, but turns out this new one is actually just a rehash with a bit more advert for the popular mods (which is good for the modders too).

Timo and/or whoever editors at RD/OverTake, even if you can't include the actual full on modding stuff (which is totally not easy and not really mod friendly, unlike your statement above "Thus, Automobilista 2 is much more mod-friendly than its engine predecessor"), I do hope you guys could give more insight about how to do mods that at least "approved" by reiza, such as liveries and custom bot.

If this is a truly "ultimate" guide you could've delve deeper with insights on:
- How to creating your own liveries and suits?
- Mix and match liveries from car packs and individual car liveries (because not every modder create car packs)?
- Playing with Materials to make your livery show some shiny gold or silver?
- Making your own custom bot names, and mess with the parameters to make your custom bot performs like their actual IRL driver counterpart?

Also I've already seen some misconceptions amongst AMS2 modding. There are car mods that aren't just model ports from PC2, such as the Indycar Mod (available here in RD) and the VRC paid mods. Maybe more to come, but as I said the engine is quite painful to work with for modders, not to mention they have to play catch up with Reiza almost whenever every big updates come (just like recently when cars suddenly have no sound).

On that last matter I guess you should also put some disclaimer that some mods (especially cars and tracks, but sometimes livery could be affected too) may not work properly after a big update and people should wait for the modders to update (therefore you have to download again), or unless they know how to fix it themselves.

Hey at least you didn't get just a name mention in an article about oval racing when i have 7 different packs with Nascar liveries and they decided to just fill it all with IndyCar and nothing else

. RD has just an open-wheel / GT bias.

With the help of PCarsTools, the physics files of the tracks can be unpacked. AIW files are stored in these physics files (AIW controls the driving line and behavior of the AI opponents).

With a simple text editor you can set downforce, gearing and later braking for the AI opponents in the AIW file. With the good old RF_AIW_CAM_422 editor you can even change the driving line for the AI.

With the help of the AMS-Content-Manager you can now instruct Automobilista to use these modified AIW files without overwriting the original files. (For Monza 2020 I set 33% later braking for the AI opponents, and now I have really exciting races in Monza. No more easy overtackes after the long straights)

Also worth mentioning that we can't have unique sounds, all mods must use sound from other car from Reiza or Pc2, at least for now...
