Assetto Corsa Competizione to add GT2 Pack

The 2022 SRO Motorsport Annual Press Conference saw some special information released for sim racers. President of SRO Stephané Ratel surprisingly announced an upcoming GT2 expansion for ACC, which was later confirmed by Marco Massarutto, Executive Manager at Kunos Simulazioni.

Confirmed Content for ACC in 2023

Not only was the GT2 pack teased, but it was also announced that the 2023 update will include all the new GT3 vehicles in 2023, namely:
  • Ferrari 296 GT3
  • Lamborghini Huracán Evo (Evo Evo)
  • Porsche 911 GT3 R (992)
The exclusion of not mentioning any new race tracks doesn't mean no new tracks would be included, however, just like the 2020 pack included Imola.

The Surprising Announcement of the GT2 Pack

In all his excitement, shortly after the Fanatec presentation, Ratel announced: "... and I'm very happy because I heard, maybe now you are (going to) do the GT2..."

In Kunos' own presentation, just a few minutes later, Massarutto confirmed this surprising announcement. He exclaimed: "The decision to produce also the GT2 pack, actually, has been taken yesterday so it was not a story to be told today."

With this, it's now officially confirmed that the decision has been made to work on the GT2 pack.

ACC's Future Beyond the GT2 Pack

Massarutto further said: "The final decision to include also the GT2 pack has been also inspired by Maserati with a new car that is beautiful. So we believe that will be a great pack for Assetto Corsa Competizione, maybe to say goodbye, we don't know, but just wait."

This means that Kunos' don't even know if ACC will keep being developed alongside the long-awaited Assetto Corsa 2. Judging by the size of Kunos' development team, it would be a tough job to develop 2 AAA games side by side.

This will take a while.. a year from now? Anyways, waiting for the new Porsche and Ferrari GT3, ,those will be popular. Hope they add some new track to the mix too.

I recently tried the latest Audi GT2 update from guerrilla mods on AC and it's a beast. So now I'm going to wait for this new DLC in ACC to see how good it is.

ACC is a great sim, GT3 a boring category. Faster is better, GT2 cars are more than welcome, looking forward to racing with these cars!
There seems to be a misconception that modern GT2 is faster than GT3. It isn’t. It’s inbetween GT3 and GT4 in pace. The whole point of the class is to be a gentleman's class that’s why it’s slower. GT2 cars have more horsepower (630~) and a decent bit less aero than a GT3 car so the will be quicker in a straight line though. Why the SRO chose to name it GT2 instead of something different and confusing people will always boggle me.

I look forward to the GT2 cars.
ACC has been very rewarding to drive.
I've purchased every DLC to date except the American track pack.

I've played a variety of sims for way over 1000 hours and not spent 1 second in online racing. I race against the AI and simply love hot lapping.
Any addition/expansion of ACC is extremely welcome. Variety is quite literally the spice of life.
I don't understand the negative comments, how exactly are you being harmed? ARRRRRGH NOOOOO!!! A new class has been added. God is watching, you won't get away with this!

I'm guessing they do it because they take profit(?). But it only takes a couple of minuts in the server list to find out that no one is using GT4 for example (a DLC that was quite expensive back in time), or the new tracks added. You won't find more than 1 server full with a no DLC track).
So why would someone keep buying packs that you're unable to use online for the lack of players?
Maybe I'm missing something here.

Yep it is going to be yet another dead series unless they do things differently than what they did with gt4. What they did wrong with gt4 was to make it totally separate from all other content by putting it all behind a paywall. Which meant to drive the gt4 cars you needed to buy the pack. Because so few people did originally and after a month of release no one did, there was nobody to race with with gt4s. People are not going to buy a pack of cars nobody is racing. Which means fewer servers which means nobody telling others to try it out. No word of mouth.

It is super simple to fix too. All they need to do is to make one of the gt2 cars free and then allow people to race against the other gt2s with that one car. That way the value of the gt2 pack is higher for everybody because you have more people to race with. And I'm sure there would be people who'd try the free car, like it and then buy the pack. The pack would also keep selling far into the future because the online for it would not be dead within a month like it was with gt4.

If it is all locked behind a paywall then it is bad value proposition as the userbase will be non-existent after the novelty wears off. Like it did quickly with the gt4. And it is not about giving stuff for free even though people are going to say I'm just asking for free stuff. I bought the gt4 pack too, what a waste of money. Good cars, nobody to race with. I think I've gotten like 5 online races out of that car pack despite me checking the gt4 serverlist everytime when I play acc. And I'm counting 5 car grids into that number...

That being said the gt2 car class could be a tough sale anyways. The cars have more power than gt3 but less aero which makes them harder to drive despite being slower than gt3. Also despite what the name say, gt2 is slower than gt3. I think in Imola the difference to gt3 was like 3-4 seconds.

This is excellent news! I hope they continue to support this sim as it would be a missed opportunity not to. AC2 can focus more on street cars and other series and ACC can stay as the official sim of gtwc. A man can dream. But we must absolutely buy all DLC to show our support for this amazing sim

Absolutely, I didn't.know.about this new gt2 class! I've been away from GT information for a lot of time and don't know a lot about the classes evolution. It is really strange that GT2s are slower than GT3s as few years ago it was all the contrary. My mistake, thanks for the information, i'm not sure about this pack now...

If fastest laptime is most important to a racer, all you have to do is buy F1 2022. I guess a lot more elements come into play for a series to be fun.

Also hope for new tracks! Red Bull Ring and Valencia are tracks of the Fanatec GT2 European series ! Hope they will be included!
But all of this announced stuff not until 2023. Really no further content this year???

Have the „GT2 European Series“ liveries/number plates (Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo, CMR, 73; Scuderia Ravetto & Ruberti, 3) been there forever or were they added in yesterday’s update? Looks like some liveries have been updated to Paul Ricard spec from last week or so. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a changelog. But maybe that GT2 European Series detail is a sign of more things to come.

Hints have been there for a while now…

This feels like an unpopular opinion in elitist sim-racing circles but I really like the GT3 class. The cars look cool, sound great and are fast enough but not too fast. They are comfortable to drive which means I can lap consistently and push hard rather than having to wrestle the car through every corner. They work for me; a very average sim racer. I guess I'm like the 'AM' driver in a PRO-AM car.

Good that content keeps coming. Havent been able to play a lot near past, and i dont have the latest content yet. But talking about closing the door on ACC? And yet there is no promised pit crews etc, where those disappeared? Pitting is still like watching some assembly line working, everything perfect for AI, teleporting in their pitspot etc. It would have been great to have race engineer like in F1 games after all. Failures very limited etc. Not going for full list. But there could have been still a lot more in it. Even tho how good it is now, it feels like it is around 60% "there".

Please finish the series that we have now. The gt4 could really use a Toyota and a mustang. It would have been nice to see the ADAC series.

its really useful for endurance and league races on websites like "SimGrid". For open lobby there is noone driving the DLC cars, but who drives open lobbies anyways :)
