Who will win the Mexican Grand Prix?

Formula 1 moves south from Austin into Mexico this week for the 2022 Mexican Grand Prix.

An exciting race at the Circuit of the Americas last weekend has left fans with some hope that there is still some great racing to watch at the tail end of an F1 season that has been dominated by one team and one driver.

Max Verstappen has been confirmed as a two-time drivers' champion, and his Red Bull team have now officially locked up the constructors' championship.

Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez will be doing his absolute best to win at his home race in Mexico. Perez will need to find a way past Verstappen, who is on a quest to become the first F1 driver to ever win 14 races in a season.

Sebastian Vettel gave his fans something to remember in Austin. His F1 career will draw to a close at the end of this season, but the 4-time champion proved he still possesses greatness with a masterful final lap at COTA to claim a hard-fought 8th position in the race.

Another multiple time world champion, Lewis Hamilton, nearly kept his record streak of seasons with at least one win alive last weekend, but ended up settling for 2nd after being overtaken by Verstappen in the closing laps of the race.

Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is the highest circuit on the F1 calendar. At 2,200 meters above sea level, it sits nearly three times higher than the next highest circuit. This drastic elevation change could make for some interesting results in the race as the various teams’ aero packages based on the 2022 regulations are tested for the first time.

What are your predictions for the race? Let us know in the comments below and in the attached poll.

I think Verstappen can't win without controversy. Then he gets mad and wants to boycott Sky Sports because they always tease him about the 2021 title. What a wimp.
Did you hear what been said on mainstream TV by him multiple times this season about Verstappen and RB?
As if Verstappen himself was responsible for the questionable decisions of the FIA.
Verstappen could only win because he has such a great car and the best designer. etc...
As if his demigod Lewis would even win with a Williams.

An international sports commentator should not have such biased comments.
Who keeps calling "they stole the Championship from Lewis".
There is already a problem with fans being disrespectful, especially on social media.
Then these sorts of comments only put more oil on the fire.

But the same is true of all drivers - they need the best car to win the championship.

Hamilton has been nowhere this year without the best car. Verstappen has been nowhere in the past without the best car. It's quite obvious and quite simple to understand.

This year, Verstappen has won because he has the best car. I really don't understand why you seem unable to accept that :O_o:

He wins a few races every year from 2016...while they had third car on the grid in speed behind Ferrari and Merc. How many matches has Merc won this year?

I don't understand why the crowd were booing Hamilton? It's not as if he did anything wrong on track. I'm not a fan of his but was disappointed with the booing.

I stopped watching Formula 1 at the end of last season. It has descended into a complete farce, and nothing at all like the sport I started watching in the late 1970s.

Some of the team principles are complete arseholes, most of the drivers have had some kind of personality bypass or behave like entitled children, the cars are like bloated limousines, and the so-called fans are turning into the football thugs that spoiled football in the 1980s.

I'll stick to watching WSB and BSK (and all of the support races) where I see more skill, action and excitement in one race than I saw in an entire season of modern Formula 1.

so boring.
it's been getting boring for most of the last 10 years.
but now just an extra level of boring.

next four years four new champions like 2007-2010 could revive it but I fear not.
$ would be betting on the $ for ticket sales means we have years of more boring.

Just want to throw this thought into the mix... :)

Should grid place penalties be applied at the end of Q1 - and Q2?
By which, for example, I mean that if the car that is in 12th spot at the end of Q1 is to have a five place penalty should this be applied immediately? That would drop the car to 17th spot and therefore not take part in Q2...

No I think grid penalties should only apply once the grid is final, else you'd have to apply all penalties after Q1 which would penalize certain drivers harder if they miss out on Q2 or Q1 in the process. Also, imagine applying a 5 places penalty to Verstappen after Q1 when he's in the top 10, and then he goes to pole in Q3 anyways, that would make no sense.

No I think we should get rid off all the grid penalty nonsense

I share your pessimission, I just don't see anybody keeping pace with RB's handle on the new car or there are only a couple of driver's who can match MV's pace and one of those is is ever so slightly on the downward part of his physical talents.

Dear Fat-Salty,

If you don’t like and watch F1 anymore, then why are you weekly contributing to a F1 tread with your toxic comments? This tread is meant for passionate F1 fans and not for people who live in the past and don't give a sh*t about F1 anymore. Also, your weekly quote "WSB and BSK are way more exciting" is getting old.

May I suggest F1 twitter for you? Lots of toxic, immature F1 fanboys that praise their favorite F1 driver and talk sh*t all day obout their favorite drivers biggest rival. Looks like a match made in heaven for you.

I think you have me mistaken for someone else. This is the first time, I think, that I have mentioned WSB or BSB (although I may be wrong). I returned to watching them this year after a long break and am really enjoying the close racing and high level of skill on display.

I make comments because this is a public forum. Well, it was the last time I checked.

If, to you, a 'fanboy' is someone who doesn't share your opinion, then may I suggest that you are the immature one. If you are going though life expecting everyone to share your opinions to validate your ideals then you have a lot of growing to do, emotionally as well as intellectually.

Oh, and by the way, I think the word you are searching for is 'thread'. A 'tread' is something completely different and not related to public forums at all.

Thanks for all the insults, though - much appreciated

Just a reminder that personal insults really don't advance the discussion and are also against our ToS Board Rules.
So stop it.

Yup it's all getting a bit ridiculous now, I may not like Lewis' previous dominance but I have nothing against the lad personally and rate him highly as a driver (just not AS highly as his fans ;) ) Booing is uncalled for IMO.

Been saying this for years ever since Red Bull (4-5 years ago) both at the back of grid get to knock cars out of Q1 and for no fault of other drivers.
edit: They also lapped slow saving rubber, then they never went out in Q1
turning session into 8 cars.
I can't think of a single reason why other teams and drivers should miss out on Q2 Q1 appearance for their sponsors .
