2021 Formula One Dutch Grand Prix

2021 Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix RaceReporter.jpg
Formula One is back on track for the second week in a row, this time taking on the Zandvoort circuit for the first time since 1985.

It’s been 36 years since Formula 1 cars raced at Zandvoort. The last time a field of F1 cars raced here for the Dutch Grand Prix, names like Prost, Senna and Mansell took part, and Martin Brundle was in a race car rather than a broadcast booth.

F1 is back to the Dutch Grand Prix this weekend, hoping to put forth an exciting race after a disappointing Belgian Grand Prix. The race at Spa Francorchamps was effectively cancelled due to heavy rain, though the decision was made to run the minimum number of laps required behind a safety car to have the Belgian event classified as a race.

The Zandvoort circuit was updated in 2019 to accommodate F1’s return in 2020. The 2020 race was cancelled, but this year the updated circuit includes the dramatic banking of the Arie Luyendijk corner. The corner was understood to be sufficiently banked to allow DRS, though the decision has since been made to not allow DRS through this corner.

Max Verstappen took pole and the win at Spa Francorchamps, with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton claiming the other two podium spots. The controversial points awarded for the Belgian Grand Prix narrowed the drivers' championship to just three points.

A win at his home race would put Verstappen back in the lead of the drivers' standings, and Dutch fans will be out in huge numbers to cheer on that result. His teammate Sergio Perez will be looking to return to form after an accident at Spa happened before he could even get to his grid spot left him out of the points. Thankfully Valtteri Bottas also finished outside of the points at Spa, so the constructors’ championship is still a tight battle with Mercedes holding a seven point lead.

The layout of the Zandvoort circuit likely won’t allow for much overtaking, and the weather is predicted to be mainly sunny for the weekend, so the pole sitter will be a heavy favourite to maintain his lead until the end of the race.

Its simple... Perez is nowhere in Qualy. Maybe it is Max to put all years the last seconds out of the car???
Maybe again... dirty games from Mercedes next week to put Max out of the race? I hope not. This season is better then all the walk over seasons the last years.
The Mercs were allways 40sec. in front, those days are gone, now they are equal, now it’s up to the drivers. Max is this year the better one.
3 dnf ‘s and still in the lead, says enough, if you like it or not, FACTS.

Especially when the third dog is able to get pole position in a car with broken DRS and has a mis-shift on his fastest lap.

As we have heard for years about the Mercedes, the Red Bull is now a rocket ship - simple as that.
A rocket ship is when if your 1 second on lap faster. Like Merc the last xxxxx years. So the Redbull is not 1 sec faster in a lap. 2021 ;)

Mercedes is still the fastest car in clear air but in traffic its a oldskool radarboat, something they have problems with over the years and never really solved it.

But rbr is a better overall package
In the hands of verstappen.
Only with Perez is the same story as albon, gasly. They are beaten so badly by verstappen it make them look like amateurs Every mistake they make its getting put under a microscope because verstappen is doing this with the same car but they could most of the times dont stay with 0.500 of a second in qualy on verstappens time.

So perez is the next in line of drivers that get recked and being looked at as a amateur. Its really bad for his self confidence. Because he is dreaming that he himself would be in the same position/place where verstappen is at.

rbr needs a driver like bottas but faster.

i can think about one driver
that dont care anymore to be second driver, a great team player when he is not kicked against his leg, got real talent and raw speed.
And its beggin for a f1 car with loads of downforce especially at the rear.

Only this driver got a horrible sunday afternoon at zandvoort.

I hope so that RB put Gasly in the second seat... this year he shows a realy good season. He deserve it!!
No i dont hope that for the gasly's sake. all those young drivers are dreaming of being a f1 champion, but when you all most every race got beaten by verstappen and not by a little but by a mile.

The part of dreaming about being a champion make young guys quick no fear all for the glory.
But when drivers get older like verstappen they will lose there wild hairs a bit. So keep them young boys happy and let them dream dont crush there dreams by letting them drive against a verstappen

he is at the moment better of at alfa tauri.

Yes its not race winning car
But its also not a Haas.

Rbr needs a driver like vettel, he is all ready being beaten by his team mate, but also knows how race winning works.

Yes vettel is not as quick anymore like he used to be.. but he is really not that slow, he needs a right car with a good rear end like the redbull and you would be amazed what that "old" boy still can do.

Hamilton or max dont do a much better job at a team like aston.
Yes i think both drivers in there flow at the moment will do a better job.

But when things are getting tuff
And not fighting every race for the win i like to see how hamilton or max would still have the flow/mindset like they have now in there rbr or amg.

there for he is a better 2nd driver for rbr then albon gasly or perez even his now days personality would fit red bull

Give vettel 2 years in a good car and say goodbye.

I think a driver like vettel with his track record would rather be 2nd driver to max verstappen and figting for 4th 3th or 2nd then fighting with his team mate over 13th and 12th position.

Because he dont dream anymore of becoming a formula 1 champion.
Like the drivers of leclerc, sainz, norris, riccardo, perez, stroll, russell, bottas, giovinazzi, tsunoda, albon, gasly, ocon, etc still needs to dream about.. and we all know what happen if somebody's dreams are getting crushed.

A young gun like norris or ocon would never done the same thing what alonso did offering his own race for the sake of his team mate.
Even if its for the win.
Alonso vettel kimi dont drive any more to be a world champion yess they would like to be again but they love more to show there skills/ driving styles to help other drivers.

Like vettel helping schumacher, stroll.
Alonso ocon.
Kimi giovinazzi

You dont see that with max helping perez, hamilton helping bottas, norris helping riccardo.

We just 'survived' the Zandvoort party and the confirmed news comes in:

I assume we all know by now that Bottas signed for Alfa in 2022.

Russell and another Dutchie Nyck de Vries will follow soon(ish) with their announcements

Hmmm... I don't know: I think he's better off at AT. Less pressure and he's the team leader. Ideally, in 2023 I'd like Gasly to get away from Red Bull and Helmut Marko, and get a drive at another team. McLaren would be nice, if Ricciardo doesn't improve. Or Ferrari, although they have a very solid duo of drivers right now.

I've tried Zandvoort few times in simulators and when I was told F1 will be going there I think with myself "what a heck they're doing?".
The track is completely inappropriate for the current F1 cars with their truck size and infinite grip. The result can't be other than either a dangerous or a boring race. I hope the first option won't take place in the next editions.

Mercedes will probably pander to the lefties and get a female F1 driver in a top seat, but hopefully they will see sense and will pick the best - Norris
:D

I know logic dictates that Russell will go to Mercedes, especially now Bottas has been confirmed at Alfa Romeo. But every time I look at Christian Horner's smirk and 'paternal hand' in this video I wonder if he knows something we don't expect. Has Alpha Tauri confirmed their lineup for 2022 already? :D
Have a good evening!

Russel is absolute a good driver.. Norris, Leclerc... maybe Gasly...and Sainz in a good car they win the word championship. The new generation is super

After the events at Spa I thought the event as a whole was great to see. The atmosphere was amazing and just really underlines what last years races were lacking. It was strange to see all the Mercedes customer cars with struggles this week. I suppose it's possible there is something with their PU that does not like the banked corners or perhaps its purely coincidence. Either way I am confident they will rebound well in the power hungry Monza circuit. Looking forward to the race weekend but I must admit I am still a bit skeptical on the whole sprint quali format.

I can't believe you-all are talking about driver pairings and F1 championships when the entire world is coming to an end. PORSCHE has announced an all electric vehicle. Such petty topics as whether Bottas or Russel or Alpha or Haasa??? If the entire world converts to batteries.. we'll be hearling Scalextric slot cars for the rest of time....<shudder>

Personally, I don't care about the energy source of the cars. I really don't get this fetish people have for gas (or petrol as they say in England.)

True. It's a shame there are not more than 20 cars on the grid, because there's some real young talent in F2 right now (and other series) that deserve a place in F1. In an ideal world, there would be 14-15 teams. I still remember the days when there were 26 spots on the grid and a few teams had to pack up and leave after qualifying. It wasn't fun for them, but it made saturday afternoons even more dramatic. In 1980, the reigning world champion, Jody Scheckter, did not qualify for the Canadian GP. That's how ruthless it was!
