2021 Formula One Dutch Grand Prix

2021 Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix RaceReporter.jpg
Formula One is back on track for the second week in a row, this time taking on the Zandvoort circuit for the first time since 1985.

It’s been 36 years since Formula 1 cars raced at Zandvoort. The last time a field of F1 cars raced here for the Dutch Grand Prix, names like Prost, Senna and Mansell took part, and Martin Brundle was in a race car rather than a broadcast booth.

F1 is back to the Dutch Grand Prix this weekend, hoping to put forth an exciting race after a disappointing Belgian Grand Prix. The race at Spa Francorchamps was effectively cancelled due to heavy rain, though the decision was made to run the minimum number of laps required behind a safety car to have the Belgian event classified as a race.

The Zandvoort circuit was updated in 2019 to accommodate F1’s return in 2020. The 2020 race was cancelled, but this year the updated circuit includes the dramatic banking of the Arie Luyendijk corner. The corner was understood to be sufficiently banked to allow DRS, though the decision has since been made to not allow DRS through this corner.

Max Verstappen took pole and the win at Spa Francorchamps, with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton claiming the other two podium spots. The controversial points awarded for the Belgian Grand Prix narrowed the drivers' championship to just three points.

A win at his home race would put Verstappen back in the lead of the drivers' standings, and Dutch fans will be out in huge numbers to cheer on that result. His teammate Sergio Perez will be looking to return to form after an accident at Spa happened before he could even get to his grid spot left him out of the points. Thankfully Valtteri Bottas also finished outside of the points at Spa, so the constructors’ championship is still a tight battle with Mercedes holding a seven point lead.

The layout of the Zandvoort circuit likely won’t allow for much overtaking, and the weather is predicted to be mainly sunny for the weekend, so the pole sitter will be a heavy favourite to maintain his lead until the end of the race.

I agree with you.. there is still one corner missing where you should be able to overtake. it would be nice to make something somewhere (after scheivlak!!??
I like the long version from grandprix legends... but today its a camping

But zantvoort has a very good atmosphere... just like silverstone and monza.. old tracks
Its a nice track for sure and i have driven it in real life. Scheivlak is kickin.. with any car the whole section from the new shorter "kombocht" turn 4 i believe or 5.
To corner with no name. Is hardcore. But i driven the old version, before 2019/2020 when they made these new highly banked corners but basicly all other parts are the same

But these f1 cars arent build for such kind of track.. go drive this track in gtr2 (yes there is a 2020 version of it) or assetto corsa with formula 3 or even renault clio cars its way more fun with those kind of cars.
Yes f1 pulls more G force and go flatout but in a low downforce car you really have to work there

"All overtakes from Sergio Perez @ Dutch GP"

Like i sayd i dont care about how many overtakes perez did.. look at the other cars.. only a redbull or mercedes could overtake by having a big speed advantage, so if perez couldnt over take those cars with such fast car if you team mate wins the race..

As a example
Astons couldnt pass williams and or alfa's while they where faster during the weekend or at least with stroll
Even in the hands of robert kubica with one hand and not alot of seat time

Perez took also a very long time to overtake the williams

That was the original plan. If you cruise around S397's new update of the track for rF2, you will find the DRS nearly at the start of the banking. Apparently somebody thought the world's greatest drivers couldn't handle the challenge of turning on a banked corner. So the DRS got....truncated.(I was thinking of another word, but civility over-ruled myself)
The common gamer parleance is 'nerfed' if you need another word there :)

tbf I am quite sure the world's greatest drivers could handle it but we have mazepin this year and it's not even that long ago that dutch citizens died due to a russian making a mistake.

Can you honestly say that this was an interesting race?
Yeah thank you finally some one gets it.. if you dont look through the glasses of you favorite driver it was a really boring race, yeah if you look through orange glasses it was great and lovely.

but i dont have any favorite glasses.
and to me it was more boring then sochi or monaco

Funny isn't it how Merc don't want to take Albon whilst he is still on the Red Bull programme, but they are happy to let one of their drivers with all that Mercedes knowledge to a Ferrari powered team.

Rumour mill is saying that they will have Mercedes engines and a new identity next yeah.

Albon gets a seat.
Red Bull has difficulty with the new regs and the car is awful.

Especially when the third dog is able to get pole position in a car with broken DRS and has a mis-shift on his fastest lap.

As we have heard for years about the Mercedes, the Red Bull is now a rocket ship - simple as that.

Is that why Perez, who is not a bad driver by any means, is being part of all those 1-2 qualy and race results, and RBR is confortably leading the constructors championship?...

Needless to say i disagree, if anything, Max has been (almost) flawless, and is putting the quick laps and the performances in when it truly counts. We didnt see Max pressing any magic buttons, or fail to enter the pits when he should, or be lost at sea with his car and setup like Lewis at Monaco. And RBR were even beaten on pure pace at Portugal and Spain.

So i would say the cars are actually very evenly matched, and Max is making the difference in sheer speed and being more consistent.

Just a bid, Hamilton constant at 1 sec. behind, on this track yes, at Monza no:)

Its simple... Perez is nowhere in Qualy. Maybe it is Max to put all years the last seconds out of the car???
Maybe again... dirty games from Mercedes next week to put Max out of the race? I hope not. This season is better then all the walk over seasons the last years.
