The steering wheel button looks quite ugly in default Assetto, so I updated it with a cleaner and more realistic design based on the Porsche 911 GT3 race cars. The new icon fully works, and if you hover your mouse over it, it will turn red.
To install, unzip the file you downloaded, then just drag the "content" folder into your root AC folder. It should be somewhere like this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\assettocorsa
For the best Assetto GUI, make sure you turned on the CSP "New UI" option in Content Manager settings / CSP / GUI, and also Kostakop_'s ACGUI New UI mod.
