Will you be Buying an RTX 3080?

I don't need it, don't have the PSU for it, and I'm not gonna buy it.

However, KFA2 are getting an RTX3090 that are made for me! RTX3090 EXG Pink

Looks cool. It would be interesting if GPU makers made cards that would allow easy swap of GPU covers and fans.
They'll never do it since they couldn't charge 300€ extra for Design then.
Everyone would go for the cheapest or no cover instead of paying 300€ for the design on top.
Some 3D printing and manufacturers would simply lose money, I'd guess.

But I would really like that too!

As long as you have a matching case, monitor, and rig to go with it.
Please post picks!
Lipstick, forgot lipstick. :roflmao:

@RasmusP what do you think would be better a lesser name brand RAM at 4400MHz 19-26-26-46 (Neo Forza Faye) or 3600MHz 18-22-22-42 (Corsair). The 4400MHz are only $20 more.
Coming from 3000MHz 15-15-15-35 Trident Z at 3200MHz 14-15-15-35.

Going for a 12600k or just wanting more fps from your 10600k by putting in faster ram?

If it's for the 10600k:
I once tried to make 4200 mhz ram run and I could get it more or less stable at 3800 cl19 or so.
I didn't gain a single fps in acc..
Changed it back and forth 3x and ran 5 runs of 1 lap with AI.

I (edit: DID, not didn't!) gain something when testing 2600, then 3200 and then 3400. So I thought going to 3800 would give better fps again.
But nope, nothing..
Not even when I overclocked the cache from 4.2 to 4.8 GHz.

With 12600k, I'm not sure honestly..
The brand shouldn't matter much. The sticks come from the big ram manufacturers anyway.

I would get the 4400 though, put timings to "auto", put the cpu to ram ratio into gear 1.
Select 3200 mhz.

Theb overclock the cpu to a good, balanced maximum and then raise the ram mhz until it becomes unstable.
Go one lower and try to tighten the timings.

Hopefully the 4400 mhz ram can run better timings at 3600 mhz than the 3600 mhz ram.

But I'm no ram expert...

Little edit:
I did! gain fps from 2600 to 3200 and 3400 mhz!
2600 to 3200 was a massive difference!!
Here's my benchmark from back then:
(it's just 6 cores + HT active with acc set to only use the "real cores")

Thanks Rasmus, i have many stutters in AC so maybe RAM and i also would like to try force it to use "real cores". How do i do that?
Im going to grab the Neo Forza 4400 and try for maybe 3600 c16 or so.

The most simple way is to run the game, then alt+tab out, open Taskmanager, go to details, search for the game exe (acs.exe for ac-winShipping blah for acc).
Right click - > Navigate to something with "affinity" - > deselect every second entry.

If you have core 0-11, deselect core 1/3/5/7/9/11.
In theory it doesn't matter which thread of each core you deselect but it feels better to not deselect the very first entry as it feels like that's definitely a real one :roflmao:

I did test via setting cinebench affinity and monitor the core temperatures to check if they are pairs of 2 (first core = "core 0" and "core 1") and not one half each (core 0-5 being first to 6th core and core 6-11 being the hyperthreads of them).

My idea was that the game would never use a virtual core instead of a separate real core but that with HT activated, Windows would be able to shuffle everything else around freely across 12 cpu threads instead of just 6 and therefore having more headroom in general.

There are tools like process lasso which with the paid version can automatically do stuff like putting games to the first 6 cores and everything else to the other cores.
Sometimes yielding good results with 8-16 core CPUs.
In general windows 10 is very capable of managing its own though...

EDIT: I know it's not the 3080 that this thread is about, but I still plan to get a 3080 in the future. It was just not possible to get right now.

Oh. So, back in 2021 I bought this PC with 3070. Planned to get a 3080, but ended up with a 3080ti on release (as shown in the 3080ti thread back in June 2021).
What I never said was that there was a 3080 card in the apartment as well around that time.
I don't live alone, so that was used for another gaming PC, while the 3070 mentioned in the post I quoted was sold.
2 weeks ago, that 3080 card (inno3d) stopped working. After some days of triple checking, it was the GPU that was dead. And an RMA was attempted. It took 1 week... and now there is an ASUS ROG Strix 3080 in the house. Not a bad RMA-swap, from a standard inno3d to a Strix :)

My 3080ti is still going strong :)

When doing this do you think i should enable XMP first or change voltage or anything?
